    I test drove a diesel wrangler and did 180 miles of city/suburban/highway driving in the Chicago area (roughly 680 ft above sea level) and averaged 32.4 mpg. I’m an average driver, I usually drive about 5-10 over the speed limit. So, I find your average 20 mpg as very interesting...

    Fuel economy isn't JUST about cost. When you go overlanding, you weigh down the vehicle, which decreases fuel economy further. It takes some of the fun out of exploring if you have to get off the back roads and find a gas station every 200 miles. That's worth the upfront cost, IMO.

    These are truly ridiculous price. I know some say it's worth it.. the running costs on the ecodiesel & the problems with the regen &emissions should give you pause. That's said, most of the low mileage used (and watch how many there are) are rarely the diesel. Many reports of lack of power on higher altitude climbs. Also, lots of complaints about "jeep steering" and major quality issues. When this series came out, they forgot to weld the chasis. The tl used to be the only game in town. That's not the case any longer. Many get one based off nostalgia & then find out it's not what testers say on TH-cam videos. They are expensive and really expensive to keep running. Look for offset crash tests on this model. To make matters worse, jeep just did a big price increase. At $4/ gallon or more + Def I jug every 2500 miles.. think 4 times before plunking 65k and then spend time in the service bay & have peugeot tell you it's$3,500 to replace the Def injector because you used non Mopar Def (even if you haven't) & you'll need a scan tool to run regen whilst it's sitting still because the system says the particulate filter is full when it isn't. THINK LONG TERM

    Don't forget the 150 200 oil changes and the def fluid costs. The Jeep wave program gives us 4 oil changes for free. You don't pay the extra 6k to save on fuel (diesel costs more than regular) plus I get a dollar off per gallon for 35 gallons at Kroger. You buy the diesel for the torq and driving experience just like the extra money for the 392.

    What are people thoughts about engines? I am interested in a jeep and was leaning towards the V6. The diesel seems good but I was worried about issues with idling etc down the road as it ages. How will the emissions hold up?I also heard the oil changes are up in the $200 range. The V4 also only takes premium? Any thoughts would be helpful.

    This is not the same 8 speed transmission in the 4 and 6 cylinders. This one comes from Germany and is built to handle the torque. (Just put an order for one today and saw all the dealer info). If you go to the Jeep site and build it, you’ll see the 3 transmission options and the last one is the one only available with this diesel.

      Good question. I wasn't able to test this out, but I would think they've engineered it to be at least somewhat efficient when it comes to heat retention? I'd scan the Jeep forums for answers, I imagine this has been discussed...

    $8k-10k in options right off the bat; hope you negotiated hard. The options are where Jeep gets you. And on some trims, things you'd think are/should be standard, are still an option. How quiet is that top compared to others? - - P.S. The transmission is a $2k upcharge w/the $4k diesel engine ($6k for diesel when the dust settles)

    • @ChrisONeillUSA
      @ChrisONeillUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not my vehicle, so I did zero negotiating. Any yeah options get crazy on this thing. This top is probably the most quiet of the three. Re. the transmission - I hear you but I don't love that "the diesel is actually $6k" argument, because few people are actually cross shopping a gas manual with the diesel. If you were going to get an automatic, you were going to get an automatic, which requires you to pay the $2,000 regardless. Now all that said, I think charging $2k for the automatic just so that you can advertise a lower base price, regardless of powertrain, is kind of scummy here in 2020.
