I have a piston valve Bb and C trumpet, however I semi-recently got my hands on a rotary valve piccolo trumpet. Along with the adjustment to playing piccolo trumpet, I've been conquering the change to rotary valves. In my experience I've found it's more difficult to play technical/fast passages on rotary valves rather than pistons. I don't know if that is simply because I've not made it out of the adjustment period yet or if that is something common among players who use primarily rotary valves. If you have any insight please let me know!
You'd need a top action rotary valve (TARV) trumpet to play anything on a rotary trumpet that requires single-hand playing. SARV - side action rotary valve - models like this one, the typical "Konzerttrompete") instruments are two-handed.
Sehr schön erklärt, Danke!
Sehr gerne :) //Phil
Absolutely amazing video! Great job, really. Clear explanation, lots of points for both trumpets, and information i wouldn't have even thought to ask!

sehr schön und interessant video, in Zukunft denke ich darüber nach, eines Rotary Valves zu kaufen
My son mainly plays jazz, and I am wondering if you can still use a cup mute, or if you have to hold the rotary with two hands?
