    I took Iyenger Yoga from Bruce Roger at Yoga St. Louis for years (I met my husband there as well). We no longer live in the city and I have tried and failed to keep up a regular practice with my big, red D.K. BKS Iyenger Yoga book. I just really need to "hear" the calm corrections and reminders even though there are tapes playing in my head.. I really enjoyed your class and I'll be doing more! Thank you so much.

      Hi Carol, so happy you found me. Love that you now have a thread or lifeline (at times) to your practice. We all need that guide whether from within or help from a friend, to continue on our own healing path, (especially in todays world). Happy to meet you! Lovely your husband can also practice with you. Hopefully he does not need too much nudging. This solitary practice keeps giving so take the thread. XXX. Enjoy.

      Dear Daniel, I am happy you found Nicole. We all must approach yoga holistically and according to our body condition, and our mental state. Our practice is best when we develop over time accordingly. Yoga is one of the eight limbs of ashtanga yoga. As you now know yoga has the power to change our body and our mind. One must use these stepping stones as a guide to inform us in our life as we become our own teacher. Thank you for your thoughts. Namaste, Kathy

    I really enjoy this practice, I did it a couple of times already. Thank you! There is just one thing: often in your videos you say 'take a few breaths there' but you get out of the pose right away. Are we supposed to stop the video to take that breaths? It's kind of hard to do when you are in a pose.

    I got my 70 year old mom to try this- she only did yoga with me a few times before, so she’s definitely a beginner. She got really frustrated because she would constantly have to come out of the position to look at the tv every time the instructor said the position name (in Sanskrit, I’m assuming). I think my mom had a point: if this is a beginner video, why not say the positions in English so the “student” doesn’t have to come out of the position in order to look at the tv?

    Hi, what is the difference between Yoga usual and Yoga Iyengar ? what are the main virtues of Iyengar ? Why choosing Iyengar instead of the others ? thanks

    • @DesaYogiIyengarYoga
      @DesaYogiIyengarYoga  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sandrinou, Oh that is a big question and maybe not so evident in a 30 minute video.
      Please watch the othe classes and you will begin to notice differences. Having said that all yoga is yoga. This Iyengar method comes as a result of BKS Iyengar’s students wanting to acknowledge his teachings. He was living master until 5 years ago. (you can look him up or refer to the many dozens of books he wrote)
      To name a few areas to observe as a beginning are the methods of Practice :
      Technique: Attention to alignment, use of props, and study of particulars in asana and pranayama.
      Timings: to go deeper, release tension, so as not to just approach with muscurlary but through intelligence.
      Sequencing: for various affects, broadening ones understanding of their body and understanding of their perception of the asana and oneself.
      Repetition: Applying over and over, returning to our standing postures and the others to further deepen our understanding and observation of our experience
      Connection to yoga philosophy and Patangli and following the thread of the yoga sutras as a guide.
      Hope this helps! Namaste

    This seems a bit hard for beginners. Please include use of props for those of us who aren't that flexible yet.

    • @DesaYogiIyengarYoga
      @DesaYogiIyengarYoga  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Susan, thanks for your comment. Many of the students that are total beginners have practiced with my Beginners series. Maybe best to have a look at that and see how your body reacts to those sequences. Here is the link to the first one: th-cam.com/video/A3jlfueHPz8/w-d-xo.html
      They are a bit longer but will guide you through a more beginning series that is more assessable.
      Sometimes I don't use many props as some students especially beginners don't have props. If you do, please have your props handy and use them as needed. For example, Gomukhasana has a strap in the top hand and holds with the bottom hand.
      For Upward facing dog, Urdhva Mukha blocks may be needed under the hands. IF you are just beginning, practice the standing poses for strength, balance, stability, and flexibility. No need to go fast, observe your body condition, and do take support where needed. Use my videos as a guide. We all need to be curious and study what is best. All my best, Kathy

    There is no way on earth that I can steeple my fingers and palms behind my back except pointing downwards, not upwards.

    • @DesaYogiIyengarYoga
      @DesaYogiIyengarYoga  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Mark, What we learn in our practice is a day by day journey. Whats not possible today with continuous practice helps us understand what we dont know or where the body is blocked.
      Don’t stress, for know hold your arms behind the back and hold the elbows. Work on the front chest and collarbones widening and the rotation of the shoulders.
      Turning the fingers up, just start with the heel of the hand against the back and touch the baby fingers together and lengthen the fingers against one another,. Over time you will release where you need to and have the benefits of the wrists extending. This is a “good’ pain, breath into it and it will ease. :):)

    I want to propose you the book of Noelle Christiaens Perez about the danger of Iyengar Yoga, she was a pionner of Yoga, she said, is good but we adapte to the North of the population

    • @DesaYogiIyengarYoga
      @DesaYogiIyengarYoga  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear Daniel, thanks for your comment. I know of Noelle Christiaen Perez’s work in her in book Sparks of Divinity she authored in 2012. This is a beautiful book of BKS Iyengar quotes and his pearls of wisdom she published for the world. She was among one of the first westerners to study with BKS Iyengar in Pune, India. She investigated further the spine and spine health. Yoga has been adapting to different cultures throughout its history. One of the important aspects of Iyengar’s practice is how BSK Iyengar modified various postures and aspects of yoga to make this science and art available to everyone of all body conditions, genders and cultures.
