Thank you for a great tutorial. I'm still new to the game so this is very helpful to me, and I can see it's a good idea to take some time to train the moves. I've neglected this to some extent because I'm aiming to specialize in using mainly ranged weaponry and didn't really keep in mind that melee combat will continue to play a large role in combat, at least until you've reached a relatively high level.
Tnx. This character was actually ranged character. I've got a ranged tutorial as well, you can check it out th-cam.com/video/oPruu9Pj6o0/w-d-xo.html It is kinda specific since I like to play aggressive, and face to face with npcs, while dodging and evading. If you're not comfortable with that, you can just keep your distance, and use your jet pack wisely.
The 1h blunt weapon special attack ignores armor which is why it's so great. The axe special will knock over enemies with low stamina somtimes but I feel it is the weakest. The sword thrust can damage through shields and is probably the safest of the 3 to use in a group fight. I haven't tested 2h weapons much though
On my first time this game took me 80 hours on easy mode and later 70h on ultra. I expected ultra to be absolute hell but in late game I barely died and there wasn't even one type of enemy I truly felt was challenging. Fighting Colossuses are the closest and even they are more just annoying because I don't always feel like switching to ranged attack (since those robots are straight up anti-melee designed). And I played Berserker with big focus on magic so that's quite the handicap. It just has high skill cap.
Honestly, the only major flaw with Elex's combat system that I have is the stamina bar, if they just removed this stamina bar everything would be much better
They updated the game with a Patch pretty early one which allows you to modify most combat related Options with custom settings. If you wish you cam straight up deactivate the stamina system.
You can gain a crap ton of stamina through potions. In late game I couldn't run out of it even with the most mush buttony style I could afford. And besides, if you already run out, you can just fly up and perform jetpack strike.
So, the damage of a weapon and the attack strength of a weapon are two different things, where the last one is a hidden stat? And, chaining attacks makes the later attacks deal more damage, is this bonus damage dependant on how much the combo meter is filled, or is it just counting the attacks that are timed right and calculating the damage bonus based on that counter? (eg if I attack 3 times, then stop attack, then start attacking before the combo meter depletes, do I have any bonus damage?)
Attack strength is just an ability you can learn, that increases your attack power (more attack power more stagger, I don't believe it increases your damage). When you break attack chain, combo damage will be weaker. The longer your combo - bigger damage. Timing the hits is only important because if you don't time it right, you'll break the combo, I don't think you're awarded bonus damage for the timing directly, only indirectly - like I said, longer combo more damage. i think it doesn't matter if you attack 3 times then stop or 2 times, that will still count as a broken combo, and you loose your bonus.
paul y I am fairly certain that each subsequent strike with light attack does aproximately 15% - 20% more damage than the previous strike, however the heavy finisher seems to accumulate extra bonus from the combo bar. Also the special attack does significantly more damage for a full bar than say a 3/4 bar special, but does not seem to be affected by chain bonus damage that I can tell (though I typically use special to knock the enemy back saving saving me from having to roll out of enemy attack follow up after my combo)
+Humorous Homicide Combo bar does nothing for damage directly. Your special attack receives a bonus to damage only from your well timed uninterrupted chained attacks. Combo bar can be full even when you stop attacking for a sek, then start attacking before combo bar drops and fill it all the way up, you'll still do less damage with your special attack then you would do by preforming it with uninterrupted chain, even when your combo bar is only half full. So combo bar does nothing except showing you how well you are timing your attacks, and when can you use your special attack.
So melee is as terrible as I thought. I went cleric last game and could destroy mobs like that without having to dodge before they even got close. Even with good skill melee looks slow and costly in terms of both time and additional skills/ healing req. Nice vid.
How on earth do you just run between your enemies? If I did the same, I would be immediately dead.... o_O More than 1 enemy => no way I'm coming closer to them than a couple meters away because they hit me even when they hit the air. I feel like I'm watching Mass Effect 3 platinum solos again. When I watched them, It seemed like those people's maps were empty, there were few enemies and movement was easy, and the fighting was relaxed, and enemies were not even trying and even some drell adept could easily run back and forth in front of a firing squad and they would all miss. When I played them, enemies would come from EVERYWHERE. Whenever I would try to run - they would immediately emerge from behind the corner or headshot my big fat crogan from a mile away through a 1cm2 hole in a wall. Same here. Watching you, it seems like enemies are not even trying, even when you're surrounded by them. In my game each enemy is a frenzied berserker, let alone a crowd of them.
+Leonion6 I'm playing on difficult, so the ai behavior is set to aggressive, so they did try their best. I noticed that if you just stand and face the enemy, they attack more rarely sometimes, but as soon as you move they become more aggressive, and you should roll as soon as you turn your back. I love 2handers since as you could see you almost hit all enemies in the big group. Just remember that you need to time your roll and dodges, so you need to watch enemy attacks. If you just go in the crowd and roll without timing it you'll get hit. I got beat up there, but I still tried to keep my focus.
Yeah, i played on ultra and enemies didnt lose a chance to choke a peace of my body, the rotboars just run like bithes and bite u till ur dead, u cant even roll out because of the number of attacks, u have to meet them with a hard attack on the two-handed weapon, or dodge before they surround you
You could see that I left that rotboar for the end, and it still bit me a couple of times. They are a pain, but I find evade to works great, when they do the initial attack.
You sir are goddamn blademaster! Cheers!

Yea I noticed when I used regular club with low damage, special attack still took a nice chunk out of enemy hp.
People actually play this game on difficult or ultra?!? I'm on easy myself!
Yes yes they do. I’m on my first play through and I’m on ultra difficulty… 3 years late too lol
@@GigaChadd330 Stick with it, it's a great game despite all the negative press it received.

This may sound silly, but you should upload some of your most skilled/best plays in combat
Marco Huerta agree
Good job my friend i really enjoy the work you put in the videos keep it up!

Awesome, what is the music?
Best faction for pure melee build is Outlaw hands down. Tough guy + Mind Changer with the occasional Lifeline will make you a melee monster.
How do you turn off auto lock on Xbox 1?
Screw melee, praise Callaan and the Redeemer Plasma Rifle!!!!

I've bought this game and will play it soon but the combat just feels like a watered down jankier version of souls combat.

Melee in Elex sucks, like in Risen 2 and 3...
Pare down the nonsense to the real tips.
To kill 2 multants at level 18 takes about 24 hours or more in this crap game !
Gid gud m8
