    Heyo nerdlings, just something from me about the guides/educational content. I would love to be posting more, but in that area suffer from some impostor syndrome. My anxiety comes from feeling incapable of doing a better job that I already have it the past (very humble I know) with guides and tutorials, and feeling like if I don't do better it's not worth putting out there. This truly isn't fishing for compliments (okay is 90% not fishing), but an explanation as to why I haven't had as much "Learn Starcraft" focused content in the past months. With that said I am pretty happy with how this series is going, it's a lot of fun once I work myself up (or down) to it!
    Side Note: I know Vibe has been putting out a pretty popular Bronze to Grandmaster series recently and have heard very positive feedback! Since I'm not in need of metal league training all I know is he focuses on the basics of building more and better stuff than your opponent, which I agree is the best strategy to improve by far! If there are any similarities they come from both of us having years of SC2 experience (sometimes against each other) and learning painful lessons we try to help people avoid.

      Winter, you've been my top favorite starcraft content creator.
      I've learned so so much from you, and honestly all you can do is just keep going. We'll get new generations of kids and young adults playing starcraft. And they'll stumble upon your channel.
      They'll appreciate your entertaining personality, and your guidance. Your good natured attitude eased my ladder anxiety when I was struggling to even do an opener.

      I think this is because "random" is hardly random, but seems to use a normalization algorithm that seeks to get even numbers of T, P and Z players on the ladder. Since there seem to be fewer Z on EU server it ends up in more Z than anything else when selecting Random...

    So you sit here, wondering if your guides are actualy helping players, and there em I, playing SC II multi for 3 weeks now, after finishing campaign couple of times, and guess what... I've took my time, played slow, played normals, tried to play makro games istead of cannon rushing my opponent, looked up on ma pylon and probes counts, then went on the ladder and now belive or not, after "just" 180 games I have acquired a Diamond 3 on Toss, and currently P2 on zerg!! By no means I dont think I'm good at the game actualy, but just from your videos and advices that you give, it became possible :)

    22:10 I remember back in WoL my first placement match when I'd just started, I scouted because that's what day[9] told me to do and looked around to see any of the things he'd told me to look out for . . . and didn't see anything useful because my opponent had as little idea about what he was doing as I did; so I built 10 slow lings (forgot speed because first time MP jitters) and just killed him and then we had a nice chat, it was his 2nd placement match, he'd won the first one lol. While scouting I remember thinking, a lot, "is he cheesing me or is he just bad?"

    • @xXMemelord

    • @tomhill3248
      @tomhill3248 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      "i scouted because that's what Day9 told me to do" yup, yup. That sounds about right. Scouting doesn't really become useful until your opponents becomes competent. You can just put 1 decent unit(not a zergling) somewhere in front of your opponents base. If it dies, that means he's coming across the map to kill you. I guess you could also spot a dark shrine. So there's that.

    Thanks so much for your guides, I got put in plat 2 because of you! I am beyond surprise but I appreciate your effort for putting in low elo strats. My ranked games were a little weird, I got probe rushed, cannon rushed, bunker rushed, the one game I didnt get cheesed I just A clicked the base lol. You are a funny person and very educational towards the game. Very cute on a side note. Thanks though for everything!

    Your videos have helped me so much. I started playing with myself but I found myself not being punished enough for mistakes. So i started playing with A.I. the difficulty was on very hard because I had previously only ran BC rush cheese because I'm trash at the game. I quickly dropped to easy difficulty after being crushed. But I'm slowly crawling my way back up and I'm feeling much more confident. I start to fall apart on the third base at about the 7 minute mark where I'm making so much money I can't think of how to spend it fast enough. But that's a good problem I think! Still grinding. Thanks for the videos 😁👍

    I love the demonstration of the power of basic macro by not even looking at the opponent's base when he does the final attack. Just attack move across the map and win.

    under 40? HA!! thats how i was during Wings in 2011. Never got me out of bronze until i got my APM to 60 and even then it took me a few years to get to plat finally. I look forward to watching you try though Winter.

    • @WinterStarcraft
      @WinterStarcraft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Fun fact. 40 in Wings is actually more like 30 today. Back in Wings it was still in "Starcraft Time"....
      Long story shortish:
      Starcraft 1 shipped with 1 second being 1 second. It also included other speeds like Fast/Faster and Slow/Slower. The Koreans were like fuck this shit and set it on Faster all the time for esports. Faster was about ~35% faster than real time, meaning 1 minute in Starcraft Time was only ~40 seconds in real time. This continued into Starcraft 2 and up until Legacy of the Void. LOTV switched the in game timer to "real time" which is why all the upgrades like zergling speed that were 100 seconds before are uneven numbers now.
      Summary: Being 40 apm in wings of liberty means you were even WORSE than I was struggling to bring myself down to for this series!

    I love this challenge. I have recently learned starcraft and am stuck at platinum. I know I make many mistakes but my opponents always have higher APM and low APM viable strategy is awesome for me, since I know increasing APM simply requires game time.

    I started playing on the ladder after you went off about ladder anxiety one time. Thanks to your videos I never even qualified to send in a true bronze league hero's replay. I also really enjoy how you sugar coat neccesarily harsher criticism with sarcasm. I think it works because it's hilarious. Long story short: there's 100 people doing everything on the internet. What you are selling is you. And people want to buy.

    Started watching your videos so as to get myself back into the game and better my game play. I re download the game and go in to look at my portraits to change it from previous I see that I have a Geoff iNcontrol pic and I was like sweet and then I seen it said in Memory I was like wait.. what? I then go to google and I find out that he has passed away at the age of 33 and instantly I was heartbroken. This man was hilarious and always did casting after his days of gaming in SC2 loved seeing him and listening to his humor. Here I am going into 2020 finally making a choice to come back to SC2 and I didn't realize that one of my favorite gamer has passed away nothing like coming back to the game to only be heartbroken.
