"SOOKDEO SOOKHRAJ is no newcomer to culture lovers in these parts. Since the release of his popular L.P. entitled 'HANUMAN CHALISA, SHRAWAN KUMAR-KATHA and BHAJANS', he joined the select band of our celebrated Classical and Religious singers.
In this memorable L.P., this young man excels in a class of singing which the people of this country recognize widely as TENT OR COMPETITIVE SINGING. This is the type of singing that gives the artiste much scope to display his skills at improvisation and creativity, especially at competitive level. In this album, the diversity and sincerity of his renditions and the
uniqueness of his pleasant style are features readily discernible. With apparent ease of effort and rich musical accompaniment, Sookdeo manifests his versatility, tickling and soothing our sentiments, in his renditions of the TILANA, THUMRI, HOREE, GHAZAL, QAWALI, KHIMTA and BHAJAN.
In accompaniment, popular SHAM RAMPERSAD of San Juan teams up with talented drummer TEEKA BOODRAM ofCocorite. SHAM, a 1972 Mastana Bahar Graduate demonstrates his unusual skill and experience, as he revels on the Mandolin. Newcomer Teeka also shows much class, though an untutored musician. One clearly recognizes a fair degree of natural ingenuity in this promising DHOLAK player.
With them, Mr. Abdool 'Kush' Razack gives a fine performance on the DHANTAAL.
Again, compliments to producer Moean Mohammed for his tremendous efforts in trying to preserve this particular type of singing in Trinidad and Tobago, and in the process, providing top class local entertainment. I am sure, with the above recommendations, that this L.P. will be greatly appreciated and cherished at Local and International Level."
