    So many sitcoms were based on the premise that the husband character dislikes his wife/kids or at least barely tolerates them. I always enjoyed how devoted Gomez was to his children and loving he was to his wife.

    Seeing the addams here and then in wednesday, i don't get why they are made so evil and scary in the new versions when these people are literally the sweetest people you'd ever meet. Sure they like dark stuff but they still treat thier guests with kindness

    • @Anonymous-wi6ig
      @Anonymous-wi6ig ปีที่แล้ว +143

      Yeah that was the whole premise of the original sitcom, it was the juxtaposition of them being morbid but being healthy and happy and kind people. Nowadays because of the popularity of emo and goth subculture, they made them more edgy, especially Wednesday for some reason. It all started with the Addams Family movies from the 90s.

    This show emphasizes how looks can be deceiving. Families that seem so functional to the outside world tend to be the most destructive. Parents who seem “normal” to the outside world tend to neglect and abuse their children behind closed doors. The Addams parents are so loving and care about their kids regardless of them coming off “creepy”.

    I love 60s TV series. Those have very short episodes but are able to tell a 1,5 hours of storyline in only 24 minutes. You don't get bored but also not get addicted to the whole series and have a need to watch a whole season in a day. Of course, as a 21st century person it is a different feeling to watch something shot 58 years ago, but little facts in this series are so satisfying to watch. The Addams Family is controversial and extraordinary in a creepy way, but mostly because the mother figure is more decicive and in charge of the control of her family, the father is very lovely and caring of his children, fulfilling the expectations of a 60s society when it comes to motherhood. The partners are so in love with each other and in a very healthy relationship. The children are also way more intelligent than their coevals and treated equally by their parents. Differences are understood and accepted by each family member and I feel like this show is quite much educating for the families who used to watch it on TV at its time.

      They actually had professional marriage counselors rate TV marriages, and the Addams had by far the healthiest marriage of any TV couple! Obviously and openly affectionate, together while still having individual interests, co- raising the kids rather than that being the mother's job, and when a problem comes up rather than "This is your fault!" it's "How do we fix this together?"

      @@broadwaygirl84 That’s actually very interesting, I’ll look it up! Unlike the “full house” show where it’s just an image of a “perfect” family, this feels believable enough to be entertaining because of the overall macabre theme which just dials it down. At least that’s why I still come back to this every so often when I wanna see some creepy crawlies and arguably the happiest family on the big screen! ^^

    Morticia's perspective on Hansel and Gretel here, it carried over into Addams Family Values, when Morticia made the children sympathetic to the witch who was killed.
    I enjoy the 2019 animated version of Wednesday Addams attending school. Initially she referred to homeschooling as cage schooling. Then she got to the public school and called it a children's prison. HILARIOUS!

    • @tiffanychan9627

      Depending on perspective (also version) Hansel and Gretel trespassed on the Witch's territory(her gingerbread house) and then shoved said witch in her oven. They are 'deliquents'

    I love the Addams family. I think they’re such wonderful people. I think it’s funny that they were designed to be the opposite of what a normal American family would look like, and that includes a father that is madly in love with his wife and kids.
