Biggest lessons I learned recently is that you don't necessarily need to articulate every note when you are playing fast you can also just gliss between some of the notes
You should talk about playing against the grain dude, it allows you to get around the horn with out having to articulate every note. players like Mark Knightingale and Andy Martin dont double or doodle tongue they just use the grain to get around.
Paul, you just added value to my life. Thank you. Very inspiring. Gives me hope. This is my first comment on your channel. I am just at the information gathering stage. Before even a beginner. Maybe only a few that watch your stuff are at my pre-school level, but I am thankful for this demonstration overview so that I have an idea on how to navigate the bone. Great job.
Paul The Trombonist - Trombone and Music Producer so I'm learning trombone for marching band and We're doing Mask of Zorro and every time I play it when I go fast it makes this growling noise or it just sounds splotchy My main instrument is bassoon🙄trombone confuses me
Paul the trombonist: What's unique about the trombone is that is has no buttons or mechanisms to articulate for us. Also Paul the trombonist: Has a holton single rotor bass trombone Congratulations, you played yourself
I have always had trouble single touching fast. I can only do 16th notes at like 100 bpm. I realized while watching this that I can say "dah" really fast if I'm talking, it's just that my tounge has to move slightly different every other syllable, like it's moving back and fourth between two slightly different positions. I can replicate this in my air stream, though I haven't tried playing yet. Is this tounge movement normal, or should I go back to how I've been doing it and struggle?
Stupid but probably important question that trombonists like me need answered: when playing fast, how can I move to first position without smashing my face with the force of the slide going through the mouthpiece?
You are very talented, because you play great and explain very well, things that are usually very difficult to obtain . Keep it up Paul ! Thanks from Buenos Aires !!
Hopefully this helps with devil's waltz. Me and my friend are doing Devil's Waltz on bass trombones. If you don't know that song there's a passage in both parts (it's a duet) that has alot of 16th notes with differing notes (not chromatic). Very difficult to say the. Least
Excellent lesson Paul, practical and inspiring, beautifully edited for clarity. Your incredible lip slurring demonstrates what is technically possible on the instrument: amazing facility.
ok im playing a solo called marcellos sonata in f major and the second part of the song is fast and has a considerable amount of 16nth notes. i do have to start practicing more often i do know that but there isnt any real progress. im playing the same tempo but not going faster the music calls for "allegro" im curious how do i make minor adjustments to my metronome or do i make sure i play the passage as best as i can at the tempo marking i choose until i get to the tempo i wish to be at.

Can you do a video on alternative slides positions. And what is your intro song. It is so pretty
Paul, Do you have a video with more detail about your “corners in” advice?
You want stuff to flow out of you 4:21
I always practice fast play on the majors but never with a metronome....thanks alot...!!
good bid/('-')/
i cant stop watching ur videos
You're singing when you're playing! Love it!
What about doubke tonguing.?
The banana in the background XD
Where in the heaven's was this video when I was playing Yosemite Autumn, I had to play alot of notes at a really fast tempo.
Mr Twist From Sudomemo Yooo I'm playing Yosemite Autumn too! What I did was just mix single and double tongue into the tricky rhythm :)
Same song, first trombone, couldn’t figure out how to double tongue so I became a single tongue master
I like the trick at 2:58. Hard to learn! 😉

What do you know about Yamaha 350c trombone ie shorter slide ? I’m a smaller person don’t want a valve bone..
Are you sure that this jaws movements (especially lower one) is ok? It's supposed be stady wile playing?! 😁 Or maybe not?! 😄
Excelent vídeo as all vídeos you Always made.Brasil
Great tips thanks
I wish you could tutor me I play trombone. Btw can you tell me everything about flats that you know?
damn! thats awesome
Insightful
Is it necessary to go down to 6th position all the time when your going at fast pace or no?
When you where 1st chair and now your 5th so you need to come back
You should play Rolling Thunder in a video
Some serious pressure on those lips!
How is ur hand ok
Yes
good job
Amazing, as usual
Trombone brand?
It looks like a bac custom to me
That trombone mustache looks painful
Russell Dixon no pain just sensitive skin, had it my entire life
Paul The Trombonist - Trombone and Music Producer i get that too, but im not sure if it’s because i put too much pressure or it’s just my skin
I have mine because I put too much pressure😭
How do you play a natural
Andrew Dragon depends on the note, the low and middle b is usually in first but if made natural the mid is in 4 and the low is in 7 or T2
You're cheating the scale though. That C is practically a C#
It’s about speed mostly
buttons? sir its keys
6:35 😦😦😦
Same
