    The door won't expanded in the summer. If anything it would shrink as conditions are dryer.

    Looks good. In my humble opinion, I think you could put in a board/cover on the side running up the stairs, while leaving the risers up the stairs open, since the air blower in the engine will pull air through for cooling. Just my observation from 6,700+ kilometers and a couple of glasses of Laphroiag from Nashville to greater London, so take it with a grain of salt or too. Happy Birthday to your daughter.

    Wood expands with the damp in winter and contracts when it dries out in summer so you should be ok.

    seen somewhere where the guy used a small car radiator and electric fan and ran lake water thru with a small pump it was pretty small and fairly effective, just a thought. I think he was going to make it a closed loop somehow with a radiator attached to the hull . never did hear if he did it though. the lake was getting cloggy on his pump.

    What do the experts there at the marina say about the wisdom (or not) of closing in the engine? We're a bunch of worry warts and my advice is to take what most of us say in the way of alarms about excess heat with a grain of salt. The heat shield looks terrific, btw--very futuristic.

  • @anthonywillis7613
    @anthonywillis7613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Having some knowledge of all types of engines in both ground vehicles and aircraft you need only worry about air cooled engines overheating and not water cooled. Your original plans could have gone ahead but you have made your decision and I hope you achieve your results. I sometimes feel it is a shame you have to work inside the boat to work after all the great work you have carried out that I hope does not get damaged. So good to see and hear you as usual. Just a thought what are your plans for curtains etc.? Stay safe and more Happy Days ahead for you and those who follow you.

    Besides being water cooled, you could add a fan to the engine housing with ventilation to take away fumes. It would not need to be a large fan, just enough to keep the air moving while engine is on. Something in twelve volts like a car heater fan.

    Love the sound of the engine and it didn't seem that noisy. Rather than trying to sound insulate everywhere for the benefit of the microphone on the roof, it might have been simpler to get a radio microphone and wear that?

      Ugh. After playing field drums and fifes for 35 years, I was always afraid of that happening. I'm pretty sure I have *some* hearing loss, but my hearing has been so much better than most people it doesn't register on a regular scale. (But *I* notice it because it's different for *me* ) I definitely am missing more of the high range in the right ear (where the fife is). In the pipe-band we were smart enough to wear earplugs though. (And I *did* start wearing earplugs at F&D practice... probably 20 years too late)

The bands I was in were more about good music than reenactment, although it's hard to do something as specific as fife & drum without the reenacting aspect of it. Look up Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes & Drums on youtube for some of our music.

    Hey James, i dont think there will be a problem with overheating. Isnt it a watercooled engine? And you have a massive air intake right there on the engine. Otherwise make a softbox with a fan in it to cool the engineroom

    Since you're going to be there a bit longer, you could also go around the perimeter of the boat and measure from the water line mark on the paint down to the base plate at a couple of places. You would then know exactly what your draft is and see if the weight is distributed evenly.

    You seem to know what you are doing - as ever - James. My ten bob's worth - how about keeping your joists as is/are(?) but running a strip of that black insulation along the top of each one. It wouldn't deaden the sound as such, but might reduce any vibration/noise transmission.
    Huh - probably overthinking it 'cos to my ears - when you are moving - it sounds fine. If the position of the mike is a problem, why not use one clipped to your shirt?

  • @Transit_Biker
    @Transit_Biker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is too bad the engine as it is cannot be cooled using keel cooling or skin tanks that use the canal water to cool the engine through the hull plating. I also would not worry too much about the main door and the engine bay cover. Will you be using hot water to heat any parts of the boat, or just the fireplace? Hope you and yours stay well and have a good weekend!
