    Shoutout to Nick with the tease for #43. I’m calling it now before next week’s video drops - it has to Dwight Howard. Based on the names in this video, defense clearly matters and Howard was one of the best defenders of his generation at his peak. Plus, Howard not making the Top 75 team was criminal. Looking forward to Nick giving him his due flowers.

    • @12gark
      @12gark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really hope he is. Dwight carried a well rounded but not so talented to the Finals by himself, 3x DPOY, at his peak he was clearly the best big man in the league and a top 5 player. I don't know who made the top 75, but Dwight was supposed to be there.

  • @johnray527
    @johnray527 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    It's weird to me that Rodman would be contentious. Best defender and rebounding monster on 5 title teams for two franchises - one a repeat and one a threepeat? Best undersized rebounder of all time? Top 5 rebounder of all time regardless of size? One of the most durable players? It's easy to imagine all 5 of those championship teams losing without Rodman.

While in the NBA, Worthy was a key cog running on the wing for the Showtime Lakers. He was known for his quick first step scoring ability.

    I'm glad he got it right with Rodman and Worthy.
    In regards to Rodman, the only thing I would correct, is the fact the lady said he couldn't score. He CHOSE not to concentrate on scoring. His career high is 34 points, so that proved he had the ability to do it. Also, he was such an underrated passer, as his passing abilities were more noticed in the triangle offense during the Bulls dynasty. And him making only 2 all star teams, and not getting the 96 Finals MVP, had more to do with politics, because of his image and how the media perceived him.
    Worthy was just a victim of being in Showtime and overshadowed by Kareem and Magic..
    Good to see Moncrief earning his flowers.

    Nick talking about how crazy deep the East was back then is why I discount some of the titles the Lakers accrued. When the Lakers waltzed every year to the Finals by beating tissue soft teams they played teams that had just had 2 or 3 grueling series and were worn out and had nothing left. Getting to the ECF was harder than getting to the Finals out of the West

      Based off your statement off “getting to the ECF was harder than winning the WCF” in this decade, that seems to be false.
      You can see how it’s virtually deadlocked “the level of competition” both Magic & Bird had to face in order to get to the Conference Finals.
      However what I can agree with (to an extent)
      is that “the level of competition” Bird faced in the ECF was a little stronger than what Magic faced in the WCF.
      But you need to dig deep and see how these teams got to where they were seeded.
      Ie. 1982 ECF, 1984 WCF, & 1987 WCF

    • @sandman1008
      @sandman1008 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok. The West may have been weaker than the East. However, that doesn't change the fact that they won the majority of those Finals once they got there. That shows that the Lakers probably would have made most of the Finals if they were in the East since they beat the best the East have to offer.
      It's different from, by comparison, what LeBron did with 8 straight Finals appearances coming out of the East, which barely had 2 or 3 real threats in the East dueing those 8 seasons. But then he went 3-5 in the Finals. That indicates that he probably wouldn't have made it to 8 straight Finals if he was in the West because he couldn't beat the best of the West for the majority of those Finals.

    Not going to lie, I compared Melo career to D Wilkins thinking Melo had the better career, but in reality Dom was way more impressive than I thought. Statistically and accolade wise, Wilkins kind of has the edge and defense was neither ones strong suit. Because of the Celtics/Spurs/Magic stints, I assumed Wilkins career average was lower.
    PS- You do seem a bit biased on the reasoning for playoffs though. Melo as a rookie lost to KG MVP level, Duncan 2x , lost to BOS big three 2x, Heat Big 3, Kobe 2x. Looking forward to seeing rest of list. Idk if I just missed it in last episode but hoping Draymond on this and wasnt a miss. If Rodman is on here, I think Draymond has to be, he impacted offense far more than Rodman and was the defensive engine for a team that made like 5 or 6 straight finals lol

    Nick you're not going to get away with this. You give Dominique all the praise and deservingly so for hanging in there with a lesser team going up against Boston and Milwaukee, but you can't use that argument and at the same time say Jordan with a even lesser team than Dominique, going up against those same opponents in the mid eighties, you don't give Michael the same pass and I believe Jordan was younger, his team was worse than the Hawks, and he had a severe foot injury in 85, Nick stop it.

    in Rodman's prime the Pistons were average and the Spurs choked in the playoffs partially because Rodman refused to guard the jump shooter(short 3-line in '95) selfishly trying to pad his rebounding stats... got traded for Will Perdue straight up... in NBA Finals with Bulls Rodman would randomly chuck up jumpers AFTER spending the season passing on open putbacks after an offensive rebound scared he would get blocked or he would just miss the layup... Rodman played 4789 playoff minutes, Horace Grant played 6172 playoff minutes... Dennis Rodman is clearly NOT a top 50 player of last 50 years in NBA... fax!!!

    Lemme guess - the guy with the worst brand of ball ever will be #1.. The guy whose frontcourt ball-dominant skillset ties a coach's hands and forces them to employ a simpleton, low team assist brand where 1 guy hogs the team's assists.. It's a paper tiger that requires ridiculous supporting to win. The #1 guy never learned how to win (brand of ball, organic) and only learned how to team-hop (talent-based winning.. all-star team strategy).. Talent-based winners that have worst-ever brand of ball and therefore needs super-teams aren't top 10.. He also lacks the elite jumpshooting skill to defeat maximum defensive attention (carry scoring load in Finals).. his big man ball-dominance needs sooooooo much scoring help.. he needs all-time elite scorers at sidekick and another elite scorer at 3rd option, or he needs AD the lead the scoring.. It's called talent-based winning.. woat brand of ball..
