When the fighting broke out over 16 months ago, her children left the country with their father, but she decided to stay behind to help women during childbirth. The hospital where she works was bombed several times, resulting in casualties and injuries, and the destruction of the medical facilities, forcing her to evacuate her pregnant patients to another hospital where she still works, while simultaneously trying to rebuild the destroyed hospital.
Around 25,000 people have been killed in Sudan since clashes broke out between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces in 2023. Near 15 million people need medical assistance in a country were 70% of health centres are out of service.
