Is FDM 3D printing BETTER now?

- We 3D printed our Pirate Ship, Lady Harpy AGAIN. But this time we did it on our brand new Bambu Lab X1 Carbon FDM 3D printer!
If you're a D&D player you must know that FDM printers are a good option to print scatter terrains. But what about the amount of details in the final piece, does it pay off?
We already told you before about our preference between Resin 3D printer and FDM 3D printer in another video, but maybe we changed our minds…Stay until the end to find out!

I have a Bambulab P1S, and it is amazing. I just printed banner that "hangs" behind a 1/6 scale model that each half is 237mm high. At .08mm layer height and you can't tell it's FDM. The one give away is how the material feels to the touch. It's truly amazing. the only downside is the printing area, It's larger than what I had before, but it would have been nice to have at least at 300mm plate.
I agree, hoping to see Bambu releases a larger volume printer. With the Creality K1 Max being 300 x 300, Voron 2.4 being 350 x 350, the Prusa XL being 360 x 360, and Elegoo Giga being 800 x 800, it is the trend. Voron is already releasing a new even larger model build later this year (Phoenix).
"Putting on the screen showing you closely.....but". So savage, but so hilarious 🤣
Seriously though, props for showcasing the power of the bamboo X1 Carbon, and explaining it all carefully in English for us! You guys did an incredible job in this video!
I never get tired of Loot's over the top pieces ❤
And the great thing is how you are not at all biased @Matheus 🤣
@@aartadventure Well, considering I see them every day, and that to me, they're work, one could say I SHOULD be sick of them 🤣
The prints look great. This is such good advertising for the x1 haha. Now I want to buy one!
Wow! That ship came out beautifully!
Such a cool video!!! And btw, impressive quality. Really impressive for a FDM print!!!
I love 3D printing. I started with resin but moved to FDM once my daughter was born. I tried the harpy on a SV06 and wasn’t happy with the results. I have a P1S now. Gonna have to try this again over the weekend.
Great piece of terrain, Loot Studios stuff is awesome!
Try 3d Gloop PLA glue if you have big FDM projects like this. It is amazing for putting prints together
Elegoo neptune 4 plus been priting stuff like this. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast! Amazing work
i must've missed something on the video but how long did the sessions take for each piece? it actually looks phenomenal, but the nozzle size with finer details increases print time 4x
IMPRESSIVE!!!
awesome !!! where the ocean map come from please ?
on what settings did you guys get less then 9 hours of printing? i mean on average setting i get like 13 hours for largest part of harpie.
I like using auto spray paint as a basecoat for FDM prints as it also has a slight filler in it.
Dope!
Bambu lab finally pushed the things right direction, it is of course not replacing resin in any way but it is finally usable for us who want to print fast and then spend days with painting the stuff.
Been in 3D since 2013 with fdm and 2017 on consumer led resin. Achieving near resin quality with 0.25 and 0.3 nozzle for miniature is doable (2018). But near only. Terrain 3D printing still preferable as material price cheap.
It took me weeks to print The Lady Harpy, and almost as much time to remove the supports! Things have come a long way since I got my printer.
You don't have the Bambu 3mf files for your plates by chance, do you? Didn't see those in the downloads
The wooden surface structure also works quite in favor of FDM printing. But I have seen bambulab prints and they look amazing.
Hi, I'm Brazuca too, could you please tell me which camera was used to record this video?
SALVE, CONTERRÂNEO!
Sony FX3 = Baby speaking and ship final reveal.
IPhone 13 = Lucas' POVs and assembling close-ups.
Panasonic GH5 = Assembling timelapse.
Greate Job!
What nozzle was used on 3D printer...0.2 mm or 0.4 mm?
both in different parts!
What layer heights?
Qual filamento vocês estão usando no vídeo ? Eu tenho também uma impressora de alta velocidade e sempre tenho problemas com o filamento não acompanhar a velocidade de impressão =/
Nós usamos um PLA mais resistente! :)
looking forward to more Large scale models for large sacle FDM printers, maybe as loot rewards?
The result is amazing with the X1, plus you don't get the shrinkage issues you get with resin... but also 1.500 $/€ 😭
What's the spray he uses with the super glue? Is it just compressed air?
Accelerant probably. Causes super glue to set instantly. Some people use it to quickly set large seams.
Superglue accelerant 😜
What kind of glue are you using there? I’ve been trying Gorilla glue, with… not great results
I recommend CA50 super glue with accelerant spray so that you don’t even have to wait for it to dry. The bond is 5x stronger than gorilla’s “super” glue.
@@DaveThaumavore Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll give it a shot
The Bambu is using a different motion system (Core XY) than most printers out there now. It does give an improved final product. Unfortunately, the Bambu does have some serious issues that make me very hesitant to get one. Not the least of which is the closed loop system and the security issues it’s caused.
What problems if you don't mind me asking? I was planning on grabbing one
CoreXY has been the standard for new printer releases for years. Bed slingers have being relegated to budget models. When you can see what Klipper CoreXY printers can do, it's ridiculous to release an old outdated design (looking at your Prusa).
Technically you can install a open source firmware on X1 and get pass all the closed system. But yeah, the hardware is still closed source.
Those suports would make cool trees
Hell yes! Did you know thay are actually called "tree supposts"?
Fdm is the best for big terrains and props
Also what layer height did you print this at?
0.2 with Variable Layer Height on some pieces for a better result.
0.2mm was the standart layer height. In some parts we used a 0.08 layer height.
Might knowledge!
big stuff can be printed in FDM. if you go 0.1 layer lines it looks ok. the biggest issue are the needed supports, they make it look ugly. but there are artists like toymakr3d who design without supports, those look fantastic.
So cool ⛵
How many rolls of filament did you use?
3 rolls and 15% of infill
@@LootStudios thank you @lootstudios I have one in resin but going to print one in fdm too
Bambu will probably give up the "Loot" to display that print at shows!
Luv your videos
Thank you very much!
What was he spraying randomly during assembly?
Superglue accelerant
Superglue accelerant 😉
Vocês importaram ou compraram no Brasil?
dig it 🤠
The levels on this ship look completely different to the one i printed. It looks like a different model?!?
We relaunched the model with new cuts to optmize the printings!
I got scared at the end when you put figures on the ship 😢
Why?? 🤔
@LootStudios Way too suspenseful... The music... It was inspiring and scary 😧
By all means, I'd love to see other people's workflow for multi-color printing! Also I recently gotr the 0.2mm nozzle for my X1-C and cannot wait to see the detail level this printer can create with that tiny nozzle.
And what an amazingly gorgeous and detailed model!
I have litrally just finished printing this on my FDM. Are you guys watching me..??
maybe...👀👀👀
Allow me to help with the portuguese.
Loucura, véi (Low Coorah Vey) = That's quite unconventional, sire.
loucuraaaaa véi 😂
