The faceting videos are definitely a treat. It is fascinating to see that process. You make it look easy, but I can imagine between the decision making and the work, it is a very involved process.
As soon as I saw an Oregon Sunstone for the first time, it was on! As soon as I saw you facet something for the first time, it was even more on! As soon as I saw you facet a Sunstone, it was game over! Dude! Yes, more faceting video please! Love you videos Theo! Thanks for taking the time to let us into your world! ✌️
Those all came out just stunning! It's awful that you lost that gorgeous trillion! I'm so sorry! And its too bad about cutting that red one upside down! The cut is gorgeous though, all of them are. And that emerald cut came out gorgeous as well. They all just came out stunning! Oregon sunstones cut so beautifully. Awesome job! You just jumped into this and crushed it out of the gate! Thanks Theo! ❤🎉❤😮
Thanks so much!😄 Yeah it's a bummer about the lost trillion but I did not know sunstones fluoresce so I have some hope on finding it! Time to bust out the black light and try again😂 and I should've have just asked about the color before I started it, I have a sunstones expert in Karen and a faceting expert in Patrick I could've reached out to to ask before starting so idk why I didn't think to do that before diving headlong into it🤦 it's all good though! Lesson learned by failing forward!😂 Thanks so much for watching!
The "upside down" stone at the end is sad. You are an amazing artist.. Thanks for sharing with us. Faceting is so time consuming. Love your work.. Please, More Faceting..
Thank you! I've definitely done a TON of faceting since my last faceting videos. I was kind of just starting to get a feel for it back then. Still lots of room for improvement but I think they're getting better at least😂
If you have a very small color pocket, put it in the culet. If it's large enough, try around or just under the girdle. Good luck on your other stones! And sunstone fluoresces red, so try finding the lost one with UV!
Thanks for the tips my friend! Karen gave me the tip on the cullet after I sent her pictures of my upside down pink🤦😂 should've reached out and asked one of you guys BEFORE I started cutting but hey🤦 and did not know about the UV!!! i feel a ray of hope now on finding that thing!
A tip to help you remember to turn your tumbler back on. Put some sort of friendship bracelet or elastic bracelet on the plug and take it off of the plug when you unplug it and put it on your wrist. That way as you're walking around, if you see the bracelet on your wrist you'll know you forgot to plug your tumbler back in!
Thanks so much! Those sunstones grow more and more on me every time I cut one, such gorgeous little stones! Hoping we can find the one that got away at some point😅😂 thanks so much for watching!
I love them a little more every time I cut one! I've always wanted to do a concave cut, they look fantastic! May have to try and play around with that at some point. Thanks so much for watching!
we are saying going west😂because the sun is going down in west. (think I heard you saying going south😉) Beutiful done as always. You really have an eye for faceting gemstones.
If/when you have Color Zoning and want the color throughout your gem, make sure the color is in the Culet. The entire stone will then take on that color. Otherwise you can put the color zone off to one side of the culet to get a nice affect. With regards of Schiller stones, Emerald-type step-cut gems work well, allowing you to see the schiller (if it's the copper plate type). Light will not reach the culet that well with copper, hence the step-cut. However, if you have the Schiller that is "dots" of copper throughout, then any cut will make it look beautiful.
Thank you so much for the tips! I'm definitely still new to the color zoning world😅 done a lot of solid colors like sapphires and topaz but dialing in on that color pocket is a new one for me. I was thinking the emerald would be good for Schiller too so I'm excited to try it out now! I have a decent amount of thinner Schiller's that would be good for emerald cuts. I've cut a lot of clear sunstones but the color and Schiller are definitely a work in progress for me so I greatly appreciate the feedback!
Even tho you’d lose about half, the value of that pink stone would make up for any loss. Flip it and start over! Great job!!! You’re on the right path. Use a close associate to double check your work. For awhile anyway. Otherwise, calming down is never gonna happen (it’s your perfectionism dude. Sorry. ) Therefore, be tho happy!!! Beautiful work ❤
Very beautiful. I'm not sure I have the patience to try something like that. Maybe someday. And you will eventually find the missing piece you dropped.
Great timing on the faceting video...though ordered last October I just picked up my ultra-tec v5 this morning. I hope you will be doing much more faceting videos in the future. Portuguese is also my favorite cut. 🙂
Honestly I didn’t think much of these… until I saw you facet them. I get it! Hey let me know if/when you’re planning on coming to the area. I want to make sure you find cool stuff. 😂hopefully you’ll be able to make it back home with all the weight
How do you like the Graves ? I started faceting in December of 2019 with a Graves Mk 1. I used it up to the end of September 2023 by which time I finally received a VL Classic (digital) which I love. I couldn't afford the V5 and the VL Classic is essentially the same "type" of mast machine as the Graves. I found this video today specifically because I have a Sunstone with a very light-green bullseye in the Quill, ready to go. WTG - Your gems turned out nicely.
Great work, sorry about the oopsie daisey one, it'll turn up when you've forgoten about it. Sorry if you've mentioned it before but what is you're very well used faceting machine, where did you aquire it and did you get trained on it or self taught? Asking for a friend 😉
Lovely little stones, beautiful facets. An aside: 75% of the time, when I drop something small and am actually able to find it, it has bounced and landed behind me. Or it has disappeared into another dimension and will finally reappear at some random location and time. I hope you find that stone. It is so pretty. Good luck.💎😥💔🤞
I have literally an amazing large sunstone that goes from light yellow to orange into deep red with rainbow spectrum in some areas I will send to you I messaged you on Instagram with pic

Thank you so much!😄 That truly means a lot!

I seriously cannot wait to see you do the not-for-practice ones!! They are all very beautiful, I didn’t know you could facet things, I love it!!!

Ps..natural sunlight and they look different!!
Faceting is nice. Need a flat lap. Do you use magnification to check your work. Beautiful!!!
I have wondered how faceting is done. Thanks!
Very cool stuff! I just got some opal to play with and I’m in the same place, don’t want to mess them up… but you can’t learn if you don’t try.

get a timer switch so you can turn the tumbler off and have it turn back in ... however.

It to bad you couldn't try out opel stones I think if you got the right one it would be so cool 😎 for sure.
What would happen if you foiled the back of the red one?
Looks like you ought to invest in more dops.
If the sunstones are fluorescent maybe you could look for it with a black light?
Wow Theo haven't seen you on line in a while hove you've been doing ok.

If you take off top of box, the top lights would not flash like that.
Are you willing to facet more on a commission?
Well you can away make another trip to Oregon and spend a little longer.
Do you have cats? (Hair)
