Rebels show up in a random spot. A fort protects a 3x3 icon area. So if you build a fort in the middle of other stuff you build it won't be destroyed when rebels randomly show up. I can protect that area from Pirates too, so if you park your fishing boat in that 3x3 area it'll be protected.
This is the sort of game that set Intellevision apart from all the others. Not an exciting action-packed shoot em up type game but one that requires concentration and strategic thinking but it could all be for naught if you aren't also lucky.
I love this game, but yes, the box art could be deceiving. Of course, most of the box art from those days is like that; always more detailed and exciting than the actual gameplay.
Great video!! My dad had one of these systems in the house when I was growing up and Utopia along with frogged were my two favorite games! I just watched this video with my 13 year old son and showed him how I use to game when I was younger then him! He said held love to play it, it looks fun! Thanks again for the nostalgia!
If you anchor your fishing boat adjacent to a fort, the boat cannot be sunk by the pirates. Adjacent squares are also protected from having rebel soldiers appear.
One time playing this I built only forts in a pattern leaving the protected areas for factories. I fed people through a fleet of ships. Nothing but factories and forts. Had more money than I could spend but could never duplicate.
Love this title. I was all atari at this time because that was what we had but once I started getting into collection about 20 years ago I made sure to get the Intellivision
Yeah, the Intellivision has some unique titles, this one being my favorite. I do have a 2600 my uncle gave me when he tired of it but the output is fuzzy so I'm not sure when or if I'll make any Atari videos.
Me and a friend used to play this game all the time. The best way to beat your opponent is to sneak your boat (PT is best) and park it in their port. It blocks them from purchasing boats unless a storm or hurricane takes it out!! Great game for 2 people with strategies against each other, or agree to be peaceful and go for happiest and healthiest people. (highest score)
I remember playing this game when I was 7 years old at friends house. I loved in and was searching everywhere to find the name of it. The weird thing after watching your video for about 20 seconds I am 80% sure you are the same person that I subscribe to.....RV channel.
Wow, that was a trip down memory lane. I could never figure the game out, I don't think I had any instructions or what not so I didn't know what was going on half the time. I totally had that Tyrannosaurus transformer too.
My friend and I would play cooperatively and build forts around the island with factories in between and lots of fishing boats around the coast. You could make a lot of money that way. We would then build a lot of fishing boats and pt boats to protect fishing boats to see if we can fill the entire screen. I think we only accomplished this once. Hurricanes would take your stuff out.
my cousin and i broke this game by realizing that you can build a ton of factories and get wealthy without any problems, no matter how much you neglect everything else
there is an interesting glitch in the game where if you take your boat to the bottom right of the screen and wiggle it back n forth while pressing down will cause it to glitch off screen and you can wrap around to the other side and when you do you can run your ship over land sorta like no clipping.
You can do something similar in lock and chase. In the middle of the screen move your character back and forth in the tunnel and eventually you "float" over the board.
The new intellivision game system seems to have missed THE BOAT when it came to games included with the console This was one of my favorite games. They should have considered Utopia Am I the only one who thinks games like Evil Kenneval was a poor choice of games to include with the new console system? So far I've seen no interest in it. $+300.00 of mine they WONT be getting
I'm not sure what's going on with that new system. It got delayed a few times and doesn't seem to have a release date any longer, and that price point will definitely make it tough to succeed. Maybe Utopia will come later if the console manages to stick around if it ever launches but it would seem for now the company's focus is on basic arcade-style, pick-up-and-play multiplayer games that would attract a family audience.
I'm not familiar with most emulators so I can't really help other than to suggest simply doing a web search. I've also not used an Aquarius but if the game is the same as the Intellivision version you might be able to get the old Intellivision Lives! (1998) software to run which includes Utopia.
Brian's Man Cave+ You can tell it's the real thing when the game intro reads "Mattel Electronics presents". All ports, reissues and remakes say "Intellivision presents" :)
Core memory unlocked

I played this game at my friend's house when I was in high school. Good memories.
Love how the cover of the box makes this game seem way better than it actually is.

Frogger* 🤦🏼♀️
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for the comment!

That is true!

I love the noise when you were fishing.
Loved this game. It was great when a hurricane wiped out your opponent.
I loved this game as a young 12 year old.

I'm not sure what RV channel is. I do have other TH-cam channels though I don't talk in the two with a fair amount game clips.

You picked the good island! ;-)

Check out my post

Interesting. I never tried that as I always stuck to what I thought made sense, like providing houses first.
Yup. Hospitals actually nake your people angrier relative to factories
Plaid this game on mu childhood. Great times.
Used to love this and then the original sim city, slippery slope!
I thought this game sucked in 1982 and I think it still does.

Un précurseur !
A forerunner to the game Civilization?
It has a similar feel to it. Definitely unique for a console game at the time.
Let me play you Utopia. One-on-one. You wouldn't stand a chance.
Misleading, you can't play Utopia against the computer on the Intellivision. It's one-on-one only.
Why don't you have a fleet of fishing boats parked next to a Fort?
While they would be protected, a boat won't pick up fish unless the player is controlling it so you only need one at a time..

hi how can i play utopia aquarius on my pc laptop ?

played that when it come out lol
Nice video! Was this done on a real Intellivision?
Thanks! Yes, all the gameplay videos I record are from the original platforms.
