    Super cool and you can tell someone spent a lot of time/effort creating something unique but adding the hinge came at the expense of making a lot of other things about the unit feel like a giant compromise.

    I actually love this design alot. I'd actually prefer if Nintendo put the cart slot behind the screen on the SP to look more like this rather than having a bulging GB cart coming out of the bottom. This looks amazing IMO

      Honestly, their GBA cart should have been the size of the GBC cart so that they would actually leverage it to make the GBA more friendly to GB users

    Thank you for showing this off! Allison did amazing work here, I love this idea. :) I honestly like the idea of the cartridge loading into the top half better, the aesthetic is really fun even if it isn't the most utilitarian choice.

    Just a thought. What if insted use a flat lithium battery and lay it behind the screen "making the case thicker" then relocating the cart slot to the top back side.. so reverse of a sp and thicken the bottom to accommodate the relocation. Rectifing the cart sitting funny and the over sized look. Not dogging it just burning ideas I wanted to share.. I should try to do a spin off and make what I described but I unfortunately won't but it be super cool to see 🤷‍♂️

    I love the design except... why is there a need for the white LED to be on to indicate if the console is turned on? Surely ... if the screen is on, that means the console is on. Not trying to nit pick but it would be annoying if there is a light shone into my face while I'm gaming. If I have this console, the first thing I would do is remove that indicator. It's useful for charging sure.

  • @Kyrox2
    @Kyrox2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    Just a note on the Giltesa kit, if you plan to use it in a future project. The current pocket kit uses a tp4056, so you should only use it in places where the battery is not near the management IC. Allison did a great job moving the battery away and using a smaller battery to keep ample distance from the tp4056 chip. Giltesa is updating the kit to use the tp5000, which his new Gameboy Color kit uses, but that still has the same issue with overheating when charging.

    @MrBoop4345 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This is a great mod. The creativity of the modding scene has been blowing up over the last few years and it's awesome. To address one of your cons, the cartridge not sitting flat. I actually think it's better that it doesn't sit flat. With the clear shell, it would be awful for it to get scratched. If you remember the old play it loud Gameboy, most of them you find now have lots of scratches into the plastic from kids sliding the games in and out. I think this is a better protector of the shell. Just my two cents. Keep making killer videos Tito!

    • @RandomizationShow
      @RandomizationShow ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You make a good point about the plastic, but I would still rather have unavoidable damage to the shell itself rather than risking damaging/corrupting my cartridges, some of which are worth more than the shell.

    • @MachoNachoProductions
      @MachoNachoProductions  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Joe, will do brother!

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RandomizationShow Agreed. The cartridge not sitting flat means it's more susceptible to being bumped and the game freezing up. And unless it's a display piece, the shell will get scratched up eventually anyway. So I'd rather have the cartridge sit flat.

  • @analogmatrix1442

  • @Bendilin

    I just wish that the cartridges could load into the bottom of the device, having it on the back of the top half just bulks it up far too much.

  • @MagisterHamid
    @MagisterHamid ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It looks awesome but putting the cartridge in the top half is a major design flaw. I would easily buy it if the cartridge slot was in the bottom and also if the console would close properly without leaving a gap.

  • @christopherhill659
    @christopherhill659 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wonder if the screen/console retaining power a few seconds after switching off is actually an intended feature. If so, it is quite clever - some EZ Flash cartridges save to micro SD. They recommend leaving the console on a few seconds after saving to ensure it completes the write operation for the save, otherwise it can corrupt the save/files on the micro SD. This feature "could" be to mitigate that.

    I would like to see a GBA SP mod like this. But I can think of some tweaks...
    1: A recessed headphone jack.
    2: Stereo speakers, not mono, twin stereo speakers!
    3: A better more modern rechargeable battery!
    4: a sleep or Standby mode when you close it, so it functions like the DS and 3DS family of systems.
    A recessed headphone jack would have a jack that is set to be either under the bottom half, or behind the screen... Something that will make the headphone wire not pinch or bend when you rest the system on your stomach when playing.

  • @l00tur
    @l00tur ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the aesthetics of this but there’s a reason Nintendo did not have the cartridge slot on the top half of their foldables. That’s because you place undue stress on the hinges which eventually will cause them to fail.

  • @RandomizationShow
    @RandomizationShow ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is seriously one of the most beautiful gameboy mods ever. But my most anticipated mod is still Thiccboy SP, I've held off on other mods for over a year in hopes that it is completed/sold. I think it has more potential than the slates and minibuilds due to its unique features like a headphone jack, Bluetooth audio, wireless charging and a gigabattery lasting 20-40hrs. I imagine you guys will crush the competition against these other mods when it is finished. Yours is arguably the best that a GBA could possibly be.
    I remember there were delays due to either missing or replacing the headphone jack component. I think it would still be the best GBA mod of them all without it.
    This mod is really clever and otherwise well done/designed, but the way the cartridge sits at an angle looks sketchy and I wouldn't be able to use it in good conscience. Some games are worth more than the plastic shell, and if it isn't sitting flush/flat inside the system it is at risk of damaging/corrupting your cartridge.
