O.M.G.!!!!!! I am 76 years young…LOVE MAKEUP…especially FOUNDATIONS. Let me tell you girl….WHAT A GAME CHANGER !!!! I applied my foundation just a few minutes ago using the method you mentioned regarding putting the foundation on the insides of your hand and allowing the brush to be swirled really good and then applying it to the face. W O W!!! WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!! THANK YOU SWEET GIRL. No wonder your name is Gemma…….YOU ARE A GEM!!!!!
Yes that's right the beautician that I used many years ago ,said moisteriser and make up in the palm of your hand ,not only warms it but it goes a lot further
Gemma, your makeup is truly lovely! Nice shout out to Risa. I do agree about her and her content. I really enjoy her channel. I am super excited to try your brow technique. At 72 years young, I want them filled in but natural looking. Also wanted to let you know that I purchased the tag necklace you always wear and I love it! Thanks for all you bring to your channel and for being so real with us.❤💄
Yep you inspired this age 70 plus makeup lover to use brow gel first and to put my foundation in palm. I also like the Lisa Eldridge advice to take clean makeup brush as your last step to blend and remove any excess foundation, blush, bronze.
I just use a small hand towel that I use for wiping off makeup. I have several of these towels and only use them for wiping off makeup and wiping my brushes. When one gets dirty, I just put it in the wash. I follow my makeup routine with a good hand washing at the end.
The foundation tip blending in the palm of your hand also works well with powder blusher to give a less patchy result. I learned this tip from Nikki Larose, another pro MUA.
I’ve also used Risa’s foundation tip and love it. Apply my foundation always this way now! Risa is amazing at makeup and reviews! ❤❤ thank you for your tips!
Hey Gemma I’ve been putting the foundation on the palm for a week now & it’s amazing I watched Risa do it & I tried it It really is a game changer i hope everyone has a go see you soon ❤
Use a toothbrush made for toddlers, they are really soft and more importantly, they are smaller so much easier to work on the lips and inside of mouth without hitting other areas😁
I wrap a little medical gauze around my fingertip, wet it and then dip the fingertip into a tiny jar of plain granulated sugar that I keep in the bathroom just for exfoliating my dry spots; face, lips, neck...a couple of times a week. Cheap, and the gauze is disposable and biodegradable. No wet toothbrush hanging around in a damp bathroom. Then I use MAC's Prime and Prep lip balm, before every makeup application and at bedtime. It lives in my purse, along with an Almay Age Essentials clear balm stick with SPF 30 that gets reapplied frequently throughout the day, even over lip color. I've had BCCs removed from my upper lip line, not something I care to repeat.
I definitely want to try the palm of the hand foundation hack! Also intrigued by the lip prep - however the Fresh Sugar product contains essential oils. Do you know of a great fragrance-free alternative? Great video as always Gemma 😘
Thank you so much!!! I just came across your channel for the first time. I have been trying different foundation applications or tools to achieve natural and not cakey results. Your method is absolutely the best. I don't see any wrinkles or fine lines at all. I am so happy. Yes, it does look like natural skin and flawless.
Be careful applying HA to lips. It dried mine out terribly and took months to recover. Only nipple cream worked for me. I have been exfoliating with vaseline and a very soft toothbrush for 30 years and it’s always worked well. Looking forward to trying the foundation tip. Thanks Gemma. Great video as usual 😊
Hey Gemma, I’ve been using the hand technique for applying my foundation also since watching Risa’s video and yes 🙌🏻 it makes all the difference, even for my mature skin, like you, the only issue is having to get up and wash your hands before moving forward with the rest of your makeup, especially if you’re wearing white jeans Lol 😂. Great video ❤❤
Just ordered the lip sugar on your recommendation. I’ve always had to resort to blisteze whenever my lips have dried but trying this balm and doing the prep you suggest may just be the way to go 🙏🙏
Love Risa and you! I’ve been subscribed to both of you for a long time. I exfoliate my lips with a lip scrub and use City Lips, but I’m going to try your tip too.
Hi Gemma … thanks for your wonderful tips !! .,, yes I saw Risa’s tip last week & have been doing it … it’s perfection .., you always look perfection … 😊
Ive used all these tips for years and can honestly say they work wonders. However ive never tried that lip balm gonna have to give it a try. ❤ LOVE your comtent!!!!
You've inspired me to try the lip treatment prep. I'm a lip chewer when I feel my lips are dry (not a good idea). I just saw my dental hygienist 2 days ago so I have a perfect new soft toothbrush to use! Thank you for this tip, Gemma. 2-3 times a week, at only a couple of minutes, is totally do-able!
Wayne Goss showed a tip, ONE drop of face oil (I use a rose one from Boots) mixed with a blob of foundation, (I use about a 5p size for entire face) mix it in palm of hand, then apply as usual. Omg, it’s so fantastic and goes on so smooth and slightly sheer and dewy. Not two drops, just one is enough. For mascara, I use the rubber tooth picks, they have grooves and you can get right down to the roots of lashes without getting blobs of mascara all over the lid and ruining your eyshadow. I don’t do the toothbrush lip thing, it’s thinner skin than your face and you wouldn’t rub a toothbrush bristle on your face. I use Vaseline and granulated sugar and slather on my lips thickly , then use a damp facecloth wrapped and folded around my fingers and exfoliate my lips like that.
Honestly, sugar isn't much better than the toothbrush. It is better to use a chemical exfoliants once or twice a week. Something with a low concentration of glycolic acid for instance. I found that a little bit of the ordinary is 7% glycolic acid toner keeps my lips from building up in a dry skin or flakes. You just rub in a couple drops and let it dry down, before slathering them in a rich emollient, and let that sink in.
@@TryMyMartini Yes that sounds better, I was using caster sugar which is much a finer grain, I said granulated but should have been more specific. I shall try your suggestion!
@@kbd623 Just do it any way that suits you, or try different methods? I have never used a brush for foundation after trying it once, I just wasn’t keen on the finish, I felt like the foundation just sort of sat on top, and I ended up blending and buffing it more with my sponge to melt it right in. I like the warmth of my fingers blending in, and i also use a small sponge, I like MAC ones the best
Please can you give some tips on how to Prime right. Especially eyelids on a budget. Also (somewhat connected the the above), how to stop dry bits around the fold of the nose when applying makeup.
For around the nose, use a small brush like a concealer brush that isn’t too dense. You can get in those areas without having to stipple. Do a slight buff.
Ty I have been working on this one for my eyebrows for the longest time and was just got to see what you are doing and how to make my own eyebrows look like a nice place to work for me in my own place in the new place I am still waiting to hear from you about how you are helping me with this process and how I can get the best look for your new gurl in my little world as a whole new gurl and your video are very important for your new gurl friend who is a good feel about how you can make a difference in my next makeup for myself and your help was very helpful for me too ty 👌 😊
Aaarrghhhh I can't believe how AMAZING my skin looks doing my foundation this way!! Just discovered your channel and am looking forward to going back through and catching up on everything ❤ xx
I used the Fresh Lip Treatment for years untl they became really expensive. I now use Ruby Kisses Hydrating Lip Oil. It's not as luxe feeling but it does the job!
I've been using the palm for foundation, but not specifically to get a different result, just to save in wasting product (the palm absorbs less). Good that you have seen a different result though 👍🏼
Hi Gemma, you look stunning as always. I have seen the foundation hack too and was thinking about trying it. Now that it's Gemma approved, I will def do 😊 Since I use the lip treatment from manyo I have no issue with dry or flaky lips at all. maybe you can try the torriden. It's almost as good. my lips are very very happy without any hard, dry parts. I have nothing to pick on any more 😅
What if you don’t have eyebrows? What would you suggest- I’ve just tried so many things- it’s been so difficult- just wondering how you’d approach it. (Lost them from an illness)
Hi Gemma. Can you suggest a really good product that firms under eye bags. Just bought a product on line, saw a video that showed things working in real time. I tried it, nothing happened. Looks like I've been conned. Not happy wasn.t too expensive, but only a small tube. I love your channel and like to see your mum. I've also just got a Nuface mini. So after a lot of work might get to look like your mum. Give her my regards. And keep going with the channel, we all need good honest advice and to see products that really deliver at an affordable price. xx
Keep baby wipes at your make up table to get rid of the excess make up. They are my savior. I have been watching another TH-camr who does videos on Estée Lauder double wear. She says to use your fingers to apply it instead of a brush because it uses less. Your thoughts? I'm going to try it in my palm tomorrow.
Yes I use that foundation trick and its beautiful ! My problem are my eyes..after hours my under eye area is dry and looks horrible . Any trick for that? Thanks ♥
Hi, Where do you get your hair grips? My carers need wide hair to hold my long hair while putting my makeup on. I have Cerebral Palsy and in a wheelchair also I’m unable to use my hands but I still like to look my best.
Tried this today and definitely works. Do you find you have to use more foundation? I had to use 2 pumps of my favourite armani luminous silk where I normally use 1. Might just be me. Thank you
Oh, I adore Risa! Besides her common sense and knowledge, she's one of the very, very few out there who talks about mature, OILY skin! I top it with Vaseline. 👍
Speaking of lips, I learned that certain lip liners (same brand and even same line) will treat your lips differently, often per color. I have a NYX lip liner that just doesn't budge and in same brand, same line, I have other colors that don't stay as well. So interesting.

Risa is another favorite of mine.

Love your channel! I keep Wet Ones wipes in my makeup drawer to clean hands after putting foundation on my hand.
I really don't like wipes...so bad for the environment and I just can't bring myself to buy them. x

I have the same problem just can’t get a concealer that doesn’t go cakey 😢
I pat on Jojoba oil (tiniest bit) under my eye and touch up concealer with a tiny soft brush or fingers… no more dryness.
Smooth some lip balm over the area first, then concealer et c.
AQUAPHOR LIP BALM to under eye area before concealer...it is a PRO trick to keep concealer from creasing and caking up.

Ok but what if you have clear brows? I have translucent blonde brows - so do I use a clear pencil ??? Just brow gel???
This is when you have to pick a brow pen that is slightly darker or the closest shade match. X
I sometimes use two shades of brown pen because that’s how my bros roll.

I wonder how to reduce enlarged pores on non oily (likely dry) skin especially around the nose. AHA, BHA have been tried as well as tretinon and niacinamide 😢
Maybe it will have to be something in clinic?
The only thing that I do pretty differently, is I use a chemical exfoliants on my lips instead of a scrub. Not any more than my skin I can tolerate, but once or twice a week, I will rub a little glycolic acid on them, and then coat with a nourishing emollient and let it melt in.
