What types of products to do recommend that are minimums we should carry in our purse or backpack for everyday use; what products would you absolutely have in an evening purse; and what types of things to take on a beachy vacation in the summertime or any trip more than a day or two where you need to pack light.
I just want to say that EVERYTHING I've bought through your recommendations have been exactly as you've described. I've gone from really high end cosmetics to all of the cheaper items. I could honestly spit feathers when I think about how much money I've spent!! THANK YOU DARLING!! ☮️😘
Thank you so much for this video Gemma, it’s very helpful. I haven’t worn makeup at all for the last few years due to illness, and now I’m dipping my foot back into the water, everything seems to have changed! Half of my faves have been discontinued plus there’s so much new products and brands I know nothing about. I’ve also turned 40 since not wearing makeup so I don’t want to just go back to doing the exact same face I was doing in my early 30s. I used to buy quite high-end products but I’ve had to throw a lot of expired stuff away and can’t afford to rebuild my collection from scratch, so having some good recommendations for drugstore stuff is a big help! 🙏
Agree. Plus where I live the department stores have closed / moved and I don’t have the ability to travel to another city . The shades on line re so deceptive
@@yvypanda190 I asked for a sample of the soft glam number 25 at Superdrug, the manager gave me one. i did take in my own pot. The thing is, apart from the waste of money if it isnt right its very ungreen having to throw out a full tube. Just as well I did ask too as 25 was too dark for me.
There are websites which offer advice on foundation shades where you can choose a foundation that matches with your old one. I’ve found them searching with keywords ”foundation shades similar” on Google. They are not perfect, but could help at least a bit. 😊
A lot of brands or make-up websites have a "find my shade" link where you put in a foundation shade you use, often better the more you put in, then it matches to your shade. If the brand doesn't have this try the big name makeup stores.
Elf have been amazing over the last 5 + years they keep knocking it out the park with the not just good for the money but good in general products i love their invisible and their glowy sunscreen and skincare too ❤
You’re such a cute 45! I love watching you and really enjoy your mom’s ideas/advice. At 72, I can still tell you that my skin, like yours, can be different from day to day. I do love my Mary Kay skincare and makeup, but I branch out to ROC products also. I never used sponges until the last year, but I really love them now!
Most of my makeup products are drugstore brands. I prefer to spend more of my money on quality skincare products. I’ve found that less expensive makeup is just as good as high end. I use NYX or Maybelline brow products, LOreal foundations, No.7 powder, Maybelline The Falsies waterproof mascara, but have & use most everything else you mentioned. Great advice for less bougie makeup aficionados.
Gemma, I have just purchased Catrice’s concealer based off your recommendation. A bit nervous but excited to try it out replacing my already expired Dior Forever Skin concealer.
You always give awesome recommendations in affordable make up so much so that sometimes I reach for it over my luxury items. In a past video you had recommended an eye primer that you said really smooth your eye lids,, I believe it was an elf product, but I can’t find the specific video. Could you please recommend an eyeshadow primer?
Great video as always - have to say I adore the ELF liquid camo blush - its so good ! I wear the dusky pink shade and have had quite a few comments from people telling me how glowy and fresh I look. Going to try the powder blush and the foundation as they also look great.
Do you prefer to use foundation on the eyelids rather than eye primer?, and how do you get white or light sweaters off at night without getting makeup on the clothes?
Great video Gemma! I'm a total sl00t for ELF products. I'm currently in love with the Halo Glow Liquid Filter and the Brow lift. Will give these other products you've mentioned a look :3
Great video Gemma thank you. Everything you have shown looks fantastic on you. I have the elf foundation and blush and love both. Definitely ordering the concealer as I can never find one that I absolutely love, and this one looks great. Think a few of the other products will be ordered in the near future 😊xx
Hello, Gemma, I'm same age as you do and I have quite similar type of skin and I'm also in your shade range - foundation & concealer (sometimes little bit lighter). I'm from Czech Republic, central Europe, and unfortunately we don't have a good selection of Elf stuffs here 🙈 So I haven't tried a lot, but I hope it will change one day 😉 From drugstore I like the most Maybelline Lash Sensational, Maybelline Express Brow, Maybelline Super Lock, NYX Slim Lip Pencil, NYX Butter Gloss, NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum or Maybelline Instant Anti Age Eraser. Same powder from Milani bronzer as you do (but with very light hand) and also from Maybelline City Bronzer 200. I don't have a favorite loose setting powder from drugstore, but I always wanted to try Wet'n Wild Photofocus (badly available in Czech Republic as Elf). I don't also have drugstore foundation that I use on daily bases, but I enjoyed Maybelline SuperStay Vitamin C Skin Tint. And I don't have absolute favorite blush or highlighter from drugstore, but I quite like Essence Pure Nude Baked blush in Shimmery Rose and Pure Nude Highlighter in 01 Be My Highlight. I love you channel, Gemma, thanks for your advices and see you soon 😘🖐️
I can't get the ELF Soft Glam (not available where I live) - is it a dupe for something high end, like Dior Forever Matte? After watching this, I would like to try the Super Stay skin tint. Thanks for demonstrating the coverage.
Absolutely love the Elf cream blush! I have a different shade, but almost daren't buy another because the pigment is so high, it will last me forever, but the shade you have is so nice too...
👋 Is there a setting powder you recommend that is affordable that doesn't require the membership? It's a little out of budget for me to do that. It's also out of stock right now 😔
Hi Gemma, I am older than your Mum but have the same heritage and can't seem to make the Maybelline skin tint work on me no matter what I do. The Elf everybody raves about looked great on you but again I struggle to get it to look like skin. My skin is normal to dry but using Tretinoin has dried it out a bunch more so I struggle between looking too glowy or overly made up with all the hydrating options. I would love to hear your recommendations . Thanks
I'm obsessed with your green background, it makes watching your content so calming I love it. Those bk beauty brushes are on my wishlist, the price tag is gut retching but thanks for 10% code I'm considering it.x
Hi Gemma. Thanks for the video, really helpful. Would you say the Wonderfilter powder is comparable to the givenchy prisme libre loose powder? If not, have you got a recommendation? I'm gutted to hear about the reformulation and I'm trying to find something as effective under the eyes x
Great video! I did buy that mascara and after a week, I, unfortunately tossed it. It just didn’t work for me. I always come back to my Stiletto by Maybelline. Yes, absolutely love the Elf lip oil 👏🏻

Hi Gemma! So you're aware, Catrice discontinued that concealer a while back. Their True Skin concealer works wonderfully for me, but it is a very different product than the one you showed.
I have some things I do differently when recommending products. I don’t suggest bronzers. In my experience, they can be extremely frustrating to apply correctly for newbies. Another is that I often recommend using a brow powder for a simple and easy application. Lastly, I recommend a lip balm in a slightly heightened version of their own lip color. Lip liner is not easily mastered, and multiple steps for lips can be daunting. Plus, beige (aka nude) lips aren’t always flattering.
Always a clear red lipbalm for me the older I’ve got. A pinky nude lipgloss for nights out to add some glam but def lipbalm everyday/not too glam nights out 😊
@@susanreid9857 I usually use powder blush but at 42 I’ve noticed it sitting in my pores, small lines that appear from nowhere lol So I got a blush pop cream (from just my look online) which comes in what looks like a lipgloss applicator. I’ve been doing my brows since before doing brows (or even finding brow products ) was thing !!!!😂😂😂😂 bec I was born with clear lashes and brows …. And let me just say - I’m still not a “pro” or an “expert”😂😂😂😂 and if you’re unlucky enough like me and have a brow that grows perfectly arched and one that grows completely straight across…( and I have hypothyroidism so a lot of both of them have fallen i oh out) then each day is like starting on a brand new face and figuring out the brows all over again 😅 and DEFINITELY - a brow pen is NEVER THE ANSWER!!! Speaking of this memory … back in the mid to late 90s … the only brow product you could find on a high schooler baby sitter budget was the cover girl two pack of the tiny brow pencils and they used to make the PERFECT shade for me . It was literally a honey blond that was just barely dark enough to give me definition but light enough to look so natural. They were great pencils back then!!!! I’ve tried to find those pencils since - I can never find the blonde color and it’s like they cheapened the actual product bec it’s a horrible application
Sometimes I really wish I could talk to you while we’re doing our make up together! I’d love that! Of course it would be super weird for you since you don’t know me. You are so lovely!
