I just want to say, This speaker is AMAZING! I'm researching 2017 H Tuscons to buy as a pre-owned compact SUV (it's Dec. 2023) and this video offers me a very rich "baseline" education. Hyundai & Kia are offering values that Toyota was giving back in the late 70s/early 80s. Not saying there isn't value in Toyotas but it seems the 'Koreans' have stepped up their game. As Toyota was chasing after GM, Ford & Chrysler 30+ years ago, it appears to me Kia & Hyundai are taking away clients who might other wise buy a Toyota (Nissan or Mazda). It's good to have options and I can't recall in the past 30 years when more favorable options have been available for the consumer.
+Tully3674 It's actually unbelievable how they were able to step up their game. Just 10 years ago Kia and Hyundai went from "who the hell would buy it?" to "damn, that might be my next car" now days.
especially after having their economy depleted from the 1997 asian financial crisis, and the Korean War. at this rate, i believe in another few years, Hyundai and Kia will be among the top car brands.
I'm very complicated...Hyundai and Kia...I don't know. They doesn't give Korean valuable services such as long period of warranty. +Alex Thank you for a good review. The CX-5 AWD gets 30/24/26 compared with the non-Eco Tucson 28/24/26. So, the CX-5 is in-fact slightly better on the highway. The Eco Tucson does get 31/25/27, so +1 MPG better in city & highway as well as average.
I bought one after listening to this. This car is so powerful and fast. Dont know why yet it's got a small engine 1.5. I pass all other vieckels like they are standing.
Just one note on the black interiors on the Tucson. Hyundai needs to step it up with some accent stitching, piping or bright trim on door panels & around door handle releases & console . The "stark" black interior look went out in the 80's. Considering the competition, including most other models from Hyundai, you'll will see what I'm talk'in about. This fault gets the most demerits on Limited models, as for paying thousands $$$ more, the overall interior appearance is about same as in the lower line.

Rogue is ok but again leaves me cold... front passenger seat is canted forward too much for my taste... makes me feel like I am sliding off... I hate that. Excellent styling and wheels. Looks sportier and more interesting than class leaders like the Rav4 and CRV. A Rav4 Hybrid will be more powerful and more efficient, but more expensive. BTW, that is the smartest power tailgate I've heard of. Just stand in front of the tailgate with the key on you, and it will beep until opening. That's how it should be done!

Alex . . . went to look at a 2017 Tucson. They showed me that towing capacity is 1,000 pounds without trailer brakes and 1,500 with trailer brakes, regardless of engine.
i JUST GOT A 2017 LIMITED TUSCON..and love it so far 41860 miles on it on march 11 24...I hope it lasts a long time...am just at 70 ty...so its my last ride.....
+Kottarathel Sujeer its terrible and unsafe....it will accelerate on its own from a dead stop...making it impossible to inch it forward with control....
I just love how Alex does the reviews, he gives a lot of info and comparison and understands that there is no perfect car. In my personal opinion I test drove all compact crossovers this year at a auto show and sat on mid and top trim levels. My favorite was the cx5. if you want basic trim the mazda it's the best, it offers the 2.5 liter plus push start ignition and for 400 bucks you get a big touch screen. with Tucson you need to step it up to the sport. Also the tucson has way too much hard plastic from all the way from sport to bottom trim. even in the Limited had some more than the others. My second choice it's tie with limited tucson or rogue. the rogue has a very nice interior. The tucson gauges look way to simple, nothing special, it looks cheap. The exterior it's the best, period, but to me the interior it's the most important after engine and performance since it's where you spend all of the time. Hyundai warranties it's hard to beat specially for me since I want to keep it for 10 years.
195 lb ft fo torque available at just 1500 rpm will feel like a normally aspirated 250+ where you have to get to 4500 rpm to get the full amount. In day to day use it will feel just as quick. 0-60 times come from flooring it and getting the resulting harsh shifts and noise that result.
Alex I appreciate your thoroughness in all of your reviews. If at all possible please add a brief look at the gauges etc in the dark. I do most of my driving at night and would find it extremely helpful. I haven't seen any reviewer that does this.
Alex, I appreciate your candor in evaluating this against the CX5, one of my favorites in this segment. I like everything about the new Tuscon; if they only offered adaptive cruise control (which ironically is now available on the Elantra), I'd probably go out and buy one right now. This vehicle ticks off about everything major item on my wish list otherwise.
Thanks for another great video. We test drove a fully loaded 2017 model and the interior felt very inexpensive compared to the competition. On road the Tuscan felt jittery compared to the competition as well. After careful consideration we replaced our fully loaded 2011 Sonata Limited Turbo with an Equinox.
I love the all new Kia Sportage GT line. Most people who see it in the showroom love it. On videos it looks completely different. Also the newer model drives much better than the outgoing model.
very informative, even with excessive talking about tires ( which can be changed to many different compositions, for mileage vs grip)--- more explanation about warranty value is needed though since that is a major advertising point of every Hyundai advertisement. Pleasant video to watch, well paced, useful.
Although Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Detection were mentioned, there was no mention that Rear Cross Traffic Alert is standard on the Sport and Limited models. This is an important safety feature and I won't buy a vehicle that doesn't have it, along with Blind Spot Detection and Lane Departure Warning. The two things Hyundai really needs to add, at least to the Limited, are Adaptive Cruise Control and a heated steering wheel. Add that and the Tucson Limited has it all. Except for Surround View. Surround View is really neat.
+AlaskaErik it's a late available feature. I have a 16, it's shown as a feature in the owners manual. Reaching out to Hyundai it's coming soon; as cars did launch without the lighted front door handles.
Sorry if I'm bursting anyone's bubble there, but the 2016 Tucson with 1.6t and 7sp actually has a ridiculously tall 1st gear, not short as it's claimed in the video. The official specification is for only 1:3.929 ratio. In case of AWD, the final drive is 3.579, yielding only 10.132 total ratio. This is significantly less than typical 1:13 to 1:15 found in most cars and CUVs (except those with ZF's 9sp and its clones). You'll have to search for a different explanation for the acceleration.
+Pete Zaitcev In FWD trim as we were testing first gear is effectively 19:1 while in the AWD model it is taller at 14:1. The Ecoboost 2.0L engine gets a 14:1 overall first gear ratio with either engine. I should have been specific in that we were testing the FWD model at that moment although I did say this was the FWD model earlier in the video.
Indeed, interior is disappointing. Almost all hard plastics and steering wheel looks outdated in my opinion. Exterior is beautiful. Graceful lines make it look luxurious. Front and rear design makes car look bigger without any disproportions to the vehicle. I think this vehicle's design will not look outdated for many years to come.
Excellent Reviews Alex! Could you please do a review on 2019 Tucson as they have done a mid cycle refresh with different interiors and changed engine options. Would love to get your opinion on that car before I consider buying it. Thanks!
Could you please do a video explaining the different types of car lights? To me it all sounds like a foreign language. I am curious about the different pros and cons and pricing and trends in the automotive industry lately. Everyone seems to keep making a big deal about lights in car reviews and I am ignorant.
Alex - I'm a long time viewer and am so appreciative of the level of detail you provide in your reviews. I read a blurb about the 2016 Tucson and came to your video. To be honest, my decision had been narrowed down to the CX5 and the Forester. You do not spend as much time discussing the Forester's place in this class. What are your thoughts between these 3? Lastly, can you comment on visibility from the cabin of the Tucson? That's a huge point of contention for me, which is why the Forester remains high on my list--I can actually SEE out of it.
+Jim Pryde Visibility is a strong point on the Forester. I generally only talk about the major sellers in a category because doing otherwise would make the videos too long. The Forester is usually 8th or 9th on the sales charts so I generally don't cover it unless there's a strong reason. The Forester's main selling point is price, it's inexpensive for a vehicle with standard AWD. My only complaints are that the low starting price meant Subaru had less to spend on the interior.
+Alex on Autos That's a good point, Alex. Compared to the interior of my 2007 Fusion, though... It's stellar! As for visibility in the Tucson, where does it rank? Thanks again!
+Jim Pryde cant see shit out of the rear view....backup cam comes standard on all models.....dual clutch at dead stops is like driving with a first time manual driver....sucks to park....otherwise its nice.....
The base 2.0 model that I rented out last month reminded me to ask you to incorporate a head toss index for testing taller vehicles. I would say the excessive head toss over uneven pavement and the plasticky interior are the only negatives I found with that particular model.
Great review, thanks Alex. Im in the market in this segment and have been impressed with the Tuscon, which I just learned about after test driving the CX-5 (which I liked). Your review dinged the cabin noise which surprised me because almost every other review raved about the cabin noise being exceptionally low. Thoughts? Also - how do you compare warranties? If purchasing a new car is this something you would consider in your decision? Do you think the reduced clearance of the Tuscon compared to the CX-5 would make a big difference in soft-roading? And lastly, Tuscon is SUPPOSED to support Carplay although there appears to be some delay in this. This would definitely be a part of my decision, do you know anything about this?
+Jaimie Harrow In our tester cabin noise was above our average in the segment, I'm not sure why it was not for others. On teh CarPlay front I know that Hyundai has committed to supporting it and it is my understanding that it should be available either now or by April. There was some speculation that they were waiting for iOS 9.3 which was just released.
+Alex on Autos I own a 2016 Hyundai Tucson limited, awd, and ultimate package and it didn't come with Apple car play. I just learned that it is now available with a download to the sd card from your computer and you can install it yourself or the dealership will install it for a fee from what I understand. I will try and instal it when I get back home.
IMHO, I would usually go for a mainstream performance all season which is a good blend of lifetime and grip. Something like a Pilot Sport All Season, or a Potenza RE980 All Season, Goodyear, Continental, and Pirelli also have good options.
Alex, I test drove a '17 Tucson Limited the other day and was very impressed. However, I read many negative comments about the DCT and problems with cars simply stopping in traffic. Sounds very dangerous. Many people say the software fix did nothing to help. Others say it made all the difference. What do know and what do you hear about this? Thanks.
I've had my 2018 Tucson for almost a year now... no problems with the DCT... and yes I read the same reports, but haven't seen any issues in my Tucson... might have been a software thing that got fixed with time.
Wonderful review as always Alex! It seems like the best time to purchase the new Tucson will be after the Santa Fe Sport is refreshed and Hyundai can equip the vehicle the way you know they would like to. I test drove the Eco model and actually thought it would be a great base trim, and the fully loaded Limited model still seemed like it was begging for more content. Seems like Hyundai may go the same route as Jeep with a Patriot/Compass and Cherokee surrounding the Compact CUV market rather than hitting it directly. Oh, sorry to say there's a typo in the economy graphic under the AWD equipped 2.0L's city numbers. I'd like the stalk status display if the vehicle were a rental, not so much once I've learned a vehicle's quirks though.
Excellent Review!!! Every Hyundai Salesman should be required to watch this video and to pass on the information about = The Dual Clutch with the TIny turbo is a joke....the car is way to heavy for this set up.....stay away from the turbo dual clutches....unless your getting a Tiburon....think go kart motor with a manual trans that you have NO control over the clutch in a Range Rover sized body.....it SUCKS!...GET THE SANTE FE!!!...or the NON TURBO 4 cylinder.....the turbo dual clutch SUV body is the worst combo Hyundai ever did.....you have been warned.....
+Mark Suckerberg The 1.6L turbo 7 speed dual clutch transmission is brand new.The only other model to get that powertrain are the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco and 2016 Kia Optima LX 1.6 turbo. What experience tells you this is a bad powertrain? From what I've read Hyundais dual clutch is one of the best transmissions in the segment exceeding Ford and VW competition.
Yong Kim Hi, I'm thinking of getting the eco. Do you experience any issues with the transmission? How much did you get yours if you don't mind me asking. Thanks!
Hi Adrian, transmission is fine to me. If you don't get used to dct (like manual sometimes), you wouldn't be happy. I've experienced a few noisy issues though. For price, I would recommend you to do some online research and buy one toward the end of the month.
I'm concerned about the dual clutch transmission and if there are problems with it. I'd really like to purchase the sport trim, but I don't like the idea of the computer switching the gears.
Alex, a wonderful review as always but why can't you compare the Fiat 500X with this vehicle since it's a much better value when you get a much better interior, complete navigation system and a more comprehensive safety system.
Alex, what's the quietest small SUV/CUV you have reviewed? Class doesn't matter at long as it is below MB, BMW, Audi. I've checked your website but some review don't have numbers. Thanks
Your reviews are very helpful. I am very torn between this vehicle and the CX-5. Just not sure about Mazda's long term reliability as I heard the older suvs were not reliable. But I need to test drive one soon because every reviewer raves about the pleasure of driving the CX-5. But I do like the Hyundai's long warranty. What do you suggest? Thanks
+Nana Kwame it has alot of strange quarks....do a full test drive especially if your looking at the dual clutch....parallel park it in a pretty tight spot....that alone might change your mind about this Tuscon.....
So why don't Hyundai put in a torque converter like Acura to eliminate the roll back issue as you've demonstrated on the incline road here? Typical people driving this vehicle stop on an incline road will freak out if you borrow the vehicle to a new driver and they not aware to the roll back issue could potential cause an accident rolling back to the car/truck behind them.
Alex I want to ask you sir if there is any problem in dct gearbox as we hear many complains from the owners ..Thank you for your effort and I will wait for your opinion to decide to buy it or not
@@iamlokittyofmeowsgard2934 Were you seriously injured in the accident? What kind of crash was it? I'm curious about the safety of all these cars as well.
@@MrHav1k it was a front drivers side corner to front drivers side corner impact at about 40mph. Airbags went off and seat belts locked. My 13 year old daughter was in the car with me. There were no serious injuries, both of us walked away fine. Me with some bruising and fractured ribs from the seat belt locking up, but that was it. My daughter had only a small bruise. The vehicle crumpled around us, like it should, and nothing got pushed up into the car from the engine bay at all. We just bought another Hyundai, this time the 2016 Tucson Limited Umtimate. I've had it a week and love it. I'm aiming for a lot longer than 3 months this time.
The noted steering feel is a shame. Hoping the 2017 Kia Sportage Sport, with what looks like many of the Kia Optima parts being integrated, will turn out a better overall feel. The looks will be something that is either love-it-or-hate-it though. I think this is a nice step up from the previous generation.
+stephane matis Most new steering will feel the same, all of them are electric instead of hydraulic. Even some sports car are getting numb steering now days
Well, the first Acura NSX had electric steering setup and it was called divine. My BRZ has electric steering and it's pretty amazing. So it is a matter of tuning and design. Even BMW has gone back to re-tune things to make it better after the negative comments. That said, CUVs and SUVs may be a nasty challenge due to suspension angles and weight.

Alex . . . went to look at a 2017 Tucson. They showed me that towing capacity is 1,000 pounds without trailer brakes and 1,500 with trailer brakes, regardless of engine.
i JUST GOT A 2017 LIMITED TUSCON..and love it so far 41860 miles on it on march 11 24...I hope it lasts a long time...am just at 70 ty...so its my last ride.....
smart review much helpful... gear shift is very poor of this crossover
It’s this engine good for a long distance 2000 kilometres??
10/10 reviewer
Is the blue light that is showing for the direction of air flow able to be turned off?
what is the best way to use this car in heavy traffic and stop start as the transmission gets hot very fast
After careful consideration we replaced our fully loaded 2011 Sonata Limited Turbo with an Equinox.
love that feature displaying all light and wiper setting on my Hyundai
I like all the detail comparisons, features and functions presented in all your presentations. Definitely a great reference on cars.
Love the Hyundai Tucson
I agree this is a nice ride just bought one for my wife and she loves it !!
+AlaskaErik The limited has a heated steering wheel.
+scf685 There is no heated steering wheel available on the 2016 Tucson on any trim level. That is directly from the Hyundai web site.
+Alex on Autos What I meant on the Ecoboost is that it is 14:1 with either FWD or AWD. (auto correct at work)
Great review. A one stop “shop” .....now I know all I needed to know.. awesome
Great review Alex. Here in Asia we have the CRDi options. They really powerful and fuel efficient.
Thanks!
I don't know where Motorweek test their cars (altitude wise) but they tested that same car and got 8.4 sec 0-60
HIDS are stronger than LEDs, right? why not give LED to all the trims and the Xenons to the limited.
How about reliability? I'm also looking at the Santa Fe Sport.
5-year bumper to bumper, and 10-year powertrain warranty.
What an awesome review!
The base 2.0 model that I rented out last month reminded me to ask you to incorporate a head toss index for testing taller vehicles. I would say the excessive head toss over uneven pavement and the plasticky interior are the only negatives I found with that particular model.
Very dissent and honest presentation . Thank you
Great review, thanks Alex.
I will try and instal it when I get back home.
wow. that was the most informative review i have seen on the hyundai. thank you! you won me as a subscriber. keep it up!
💯 on point for the Tucson. Great are review 🥰👌🏼
Hi Alex. please advise, what brand of tyres do you recommend for the Tucson to give it a better grip and braking?
IMHO, I would usually go for a mainstream performance all season which is a good blend of lifetime and grip. Something like a Pilot Sport All Season, or a Potenza RE980 All Season, Goodyear, Continental, and Pirelli also have good options.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide oh okay. Thank you so much
Alex, I test drove a '17 Tucson Limited the other day and was very impressed. However, I read many negative comments about the DCT and problems with cars simply stopping in traffic. Sounds very dangerous. Many people say the software fix did nothing to help. Others say it made all the difference. What do know and what do you hear about this? Thanks.
ive heard the same thing mainly with the 2016, then it get better with the 2017(less complaints). so i guess the 2018 will be even better
Alex, which is quieter in the 2016 base model, the Tucson or the Santa Fe Sport? Thanks.
From what I've read Hyundais dual clutch is one of the best transmissions in the segment exceeding Ford and VW competition.
go drive one and find out...
i have one...so i know....
2nd best? I couldn't believe it until I drove one, Tucson Eco w/ 17" tires. Thanks for the useful info now that I own the one.
Yong Kim Awesome thanks!
I'm concerned about the dual clutch transmission and if there are problems with it. I'd really like to purchase the sport trim, but I don't like the idea of the computer switching the gears.
16:36 I'm surprised to hear about the cabin noise, from all the other reviews I've seen they talk about how quiet it is in the new Tucson.
I think most of the time, people are comparing it to the older Tucsons
the new Tucson has the quietest cabin noise.
YEAH Crv got 70 dba
Alex, a wonderful review as always but why can't you compare the Fiat 500X with this vehicle since it's a much better value when you get a much better interior, complete navigation system and a more comprehensive safety system.
+denault3985 Maybe it's because Fiat was awarded 1st place on the least reliable car brand in the U.S by consumer reports for 2 years in a row?
alex, how is the reliablity of this new tucson? or which do you recommend for reliability? thanks
Hyundai has topped the charts for reliability in the past year or so. they are no longer the Hyundai from 10 years ago.
+Joshua Jo thank you
Alex, what's the quietest small SUV/CUV you have reviewed? Class doesn't matter at long as it is below MB, BMW, Audi. I've checked your website but some review don't have numbers. Thanks
+Peichen01 Teh Edge, MKX and Murano all stand out in this area
I would get the Mazda CX-5 over this more power and more reliable
Fantastic review!!!! I am considering this car! Also subscribing!
I live in california where the gas is about 2.50 to 2.85. Exactly how big is the gas tank and how much do you think it would cost to fill up.
It has a 62 litre tank... I'll let you do the maths...
16.3 Gallon fuel tank.
It's really surprising that Hyundai overlooked the Dual zone ac which all other manufacturers are offering. And that infotainment display is tiny.
That hard plastic door interior though! Yikes! Lots of hard plastics and the single USB is my only other gripe with this beautiful car!
Alex I want to ask you sir if there is any problem in dct gearbox as we hear many complains from the owners ..Thank you for your effort and I will wait for your opinion to decide to buy it or not
Mohamed Sak
Does it offer a tow package, or do you have to add a tow hitch to tow the 1500 lbs?
my dream car hoping to have it one day
Thanks for another great review, Alex. Will you also be taking a look at its Kia sibling, the Sportage?
alex, curious i was considering the tucson turbo. but, i have seen lots of reports by consumers of issues with the transmission. your thoughts?
Yes, wondering the same thing.
kikkiokioli they fixed the transmission software for 2017 and beyond . We have a 2017 model its fantastic and changes gears super smooth .
Agreed, the 2017 shifted so smooth. At least, it did until someone ran into me and totalled it 3 months after buying it. So the safety rating is A+
@@iamlokittyofmeowsgard2934 Were you seriously injured in the accident?
Your videos are wonderful. Always straight to the point. Can you please suggest Compact SUV with least amount of Cabin noise.
Really detailed review, and great information, thanks !
alex is an intelligent review master thank you for this💛💛💛
Isn't 72 dB a bit high for a 50 mph speed? Is it within the average for this segment?
