    This match is so fascinating. Andre wrestled Hogan at WM 3 about 8 months prior to this and here he looks like he's lost 75-100 lbs since then. He's moving really well, he's mat wrestling, and he looks happy in this environment. At 9:57 there is a rope break and the person on the PA appears to call him by his real name, Andre Roussimoff
    while telling him to break.

    When I was a child in the 1970's and saw Andre and Otto and other big wrestlers as part of the AWA, the American Wrestling Association, I remember Andre being billed as 7'4 and 485 Pounds. And Otto was billed at a weight of 350 at the time.
    I used to think that all of the big wrestlers' sizes were exaggerated just for amazement sake.
    Now, about 50 years later, as I look at those two next to each other in this clip, I'm thinking those announced sizes were correct.

      his immobile wwwf style was the way vince sr. changed his moveset for american audiences. he threw dropkicks in the 80s and was incredibly agile for his size, then vince sr. told him to start wrestling like a "big man" to prolong his career and make him look like a true giant

    • @mikestarr6634
      @mikestarr6634 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No offense, but that's total bullshit. No one changed his style, and he never threw a dropkick. By the mid-1980s he was slowing down a lot, but he had to work harder here because it wasn't WWF and he had to bump for Wanz, who was the booker too. Let's not lie and talk about Andre being agile in the 1980s...kids might think you know something.

Literally everyone whose spoken on the issue, including Andre himself, have verified it. peryk2 said eighties, not specifying at which point and to propagate your argument, you said mid eighties which was after Andres back surgery. Cursing, and presuming facts not in evidence may make you feel better about yourself, but it does nothing for the veracity of your argument. Youve made it clear youre here to impress children, and thats creepy enough, but you cant twist the words of others to do so. Spend less time internalizing things youre so blatantly unsure of and more time working on why you want to impress kids, you cant disagree without cursing, and youve the vocabulary and manners of a drunken illiterate.

    this was like 8 months after Wrestlemania 3 and over a month before he had the rematch against Hogan. Andre was like the only guy, who was allowed to go wherever he wanted and not get fired by Vince, because Vince had huge respect for Andre and he was in Bremen a few times, as it was like New York for Wrestling in Germany in the 80s and 90s.
    Fun Fact: After one show in Bremen, he went out to drink some Beers with a Wrestler called Rambo and when Rambo went to the bathroom, Andre just left and left him alone with the Bill, because Rambo pissed off Andre and he gave him payback. If you know Andres drinking stories, you know that the bill was huge.

      No he did have back problems and many other health ailments. The difference here is unlike WWF, he was actually wrestling, not as they wanted him as a 'Giant.' He was much more capable than people think. He straight up slapped the shit out of Otto Lmaf. He knew so many techniques combined with his size, he really didn't sweat anyone he was in the ring with. I've seen that man post WWF work great matches with established and soon to be big stars...quite humbling.

      The surgery offered Andre very temporary relief, but his body was already failing him. Consider that he was wearing a back brace at WM III (which you can see underneath his singlet). He didn’t wrestle in the summer so he had time to properly rest and rehab (reportedly at Vince’s home), which is why he is moving better here. But by the time of WM IV, his mobility was decreasing again.
