There's no better feeling of freedom than when you don't care what others think of you, your kit, your bike, your journeys or care about what they have or have done. This type of freedom sits far better on a motorcycle and provides happier memories.

Pavlin, this is absolutely spot on !
Having been into bikes since an early age, raced from my early teens, done extremely stupid but exciting things on motorcycles (and still do 🤗).
I have experienced this many times in my years and still the fire is poked when I see some social media clips.
But years ago there wasn't someone with a smartphone ready to capture the moment, even a decent camera was a scarce thing. The races would have a dedicated photographer and you hoped he captured you so you could buy a photo from him, a colour or black and white piece of paper that held a memory on outside of your head.
I see things now on social media getting likes or going viral, and often it was just "normal" stuff we did clowning around on our bikes decades ago. Tricks, stunts, advice.
But we only have the memories on a pic or in our minds to reflect on as we watch thousands of people post replies in awe, and the hosts often even monetize from it. It's a different world as they say.
Often these memories will be spoken when us oldies get together and we have a laugh as we reminisce.
It's nice to have the tech these days to try and share a moment on our rides or adventure, but in reality nobody can truly understand the feelings that a particular photo or video means to you.
As often quoted "nobody cares about your social media", sounds harsh, but there is truth in it.
Enjoy what you do, but do it for yourself and your own reason without the worry and expense of pleasing other people that are craving digital affirmation from social media 🤙

    @teneretraveller8980 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    Very true.
It works from the other side of the screen , too.
People who are unlucky enough to be born into difficult circumstances did not know there was a different world until travellers arrived. They were met with curiosity, and Openness.
Now even the poorest of people have a mobile phone, and can see the rest of the world.
Now curiosity is replaced with envy of a life most can never have. They will never own a bike or be able to travel or even leave their home.
Travellers are now met differently. The world is different now. We are very lucky.
Travelling is different now at times.
But fortunately most of the world is good.
Ride safe and happy travels 👍

when i was a kid in the 60's we were poor but didn't know it coz everyone else on our estate was the same. i started my wanderlust by getting on my bike wondering what was around the corner. i now travel by motorbike but think you only truly know when going there yourself. GL

'Now curiosity is replaced with envy of a life most can never have' - only because the world is arranged that way by rich western selfish pricks far too much onto materialism - there is enough resources in the world to give everyone a good standard of life.....................

Another great insightful video with a very important message.
I think another envy issue is, bike envy. I have had up to 7 motorcycles in my garage and am as happy now with 1.
    I used to think, if only I had a ……………., Fill in the blank, T7, 1250 GSA, Ducati Desert X, 890R, …
I cannot even ride the bike I have to its limits. Sure, pretty much if you want to ride dual-sport type stuff you need a bike different than a moto GP bike.
So be happy where you are and enjoy your ride.

Thanks for your videos. I enjoy your topics, real world and from the heart. I am planning a trip to Iceland in the coming summer. I’m shipping my Honda Transalp from America. At the moment I’m setting up my bike with crash bars, skid plate and panniers. My plan is to explore for 3 to 4 weeks then take the ferry to the Farro Islands. From there I’m taking the Ferry to Norway and then going to the North Cape. After that I’m heading to mainland Europe and eventually to Germany. This trip is a life long journey for me. My plan is to camp most of the time and perhaps a cheap hotel.

Well said father Pav. Get away from electronic entertainment and get out there and ride, that's what keeps us young and alive no matter how old you are. Watching TV and social media sites too often just dulls the brain and turns you into a vegetable. That's what they are designed to do. If you get bored just do what the man said and create something, anything, even riding down a road you have never been down before instead of using the same old pathways that we always use is creating new experiences for your mind to digest and new memories for the future. It's only when you are out there alone that you will find your true self. Keep up the good work Father Pavlin. 👍

Again this Australian finds himself in total agreement with a stranger in Bulgaria! I don't 'do' social media, apart from here. But your calling out of consumerism, and the envy it runs on, as well as social media's role in this, is accurate and timely. Again, a 'voice of reason' amongst all the current madness.
We need to be doing our trips for ourselves, not to take impressive pictures for the strangers on social media you refer to! Keeping it simple, and going your own way, sound advice to travellers of every type. Good job. I'm going for a ride, as I do most days. On my own, and where I want! Hopefully no 'roos today after a nasty one last week.

I wouldn’t call it envy, but I do follow a couple of sailors on TH-cam and sometimes wish that I was young again, to be doing what they are doing. Also of course I follow you and a couple of other motorcycle adventurers. Fortunately age has not yet limited my motorcycling ambitions.
What I get from all this is, when things are not going my way (example bad weather or breakdowns ), I ask myself “ what would …..insert name……do?” and this enables me to deal with whatever is the inconvenience with more confidence or stoicism.

Good vid Pavlin. One needs to know their limits. Enjoy life as you can. At 68 I don't have time nor do I want to wait. It may be a bunch of local rides on roads I have discovered on 4 wheels in the last three or so years. Covid was a one person show going and seeing where I wanted to ride to. I had it and almost died. NOW is the time, right after my new right knee, Getting old sucks but beats the hell out of the alternative.Penelope, Natile Sense, Jay Legere, Swedwoods, all our nordic friends, Simple living Alaska, Marc Travels, electric Zero bike, interesting, Woodsongs, Lavi and Ollie, RTW by youngest couple, Big Rock Moto, Truck House life Norwegian Xplorer, Motorcycle Travel Channel, Sterling Noren does a great job, Classic Rides, another really good production. just some diverse channels besides full time riding.

I grew up in the 80’s where you had to have you own look to stand out. Envy has never been a problem for me, as the song goes “I don’t care “ as long as I am doing my own thing , not hurting others and enjoying myself that’s the way I travel. You don’t need any latest gizmos (although would be nice) my main focus is to have enough money and time to travel

I always enjoy what you have to say, but envy is one thing i just don't understand. if i really wanted or needed 'more' i'd find a way to get it, if i see someone with a better bike/gear/accommodation or whatever i just think good, on 'em, and i enjoy seeing m8's and family being successful, it doesn't affect me. i don't have any social media accounts and i agree that the constant barrage can sway opinions for some, and make them phone zombies, but IMHO the best thing you can have is time for yourself, coz money comes and goes, and anyway If i plan a trip i generally stay at places i get value, like backpackers, youth hostels, cheap pensions, and you tend to meet a more interesting & grounded traveller at these places anyway. getting a good deal and doing it on the 'cheap;' can also give you pleasue in beating the system, and also better memories, as It's what's inside that counts. Excellent philosophical yet real issues a lot of people face. I think us most of us old farts are immune to it. But, those young ones who were digesting Social Media from a baby fall into all the points you made. I made a conscious decision to not go out of my way to photograph or video my trips but to savor them. That said, I don't have a TH-cam channel either or Instagram, Facebook, the most toxic, Twitter 🤮or any of the other toxic cesspool accounts. I'm glad you brought this up. I've seen riders with their bikes covered in cameras mounted around their bikes and a drone case on the back. I can imagine all the things you have to keep track of, consider or plan for. That is not what I call stress free adventuring. I don't even listen to music while I ride as there is enough sh!t to concentrate on with inattentive drivers on the road and what is on the road. Planning trips around cost sucks but necessary, I have cancelled trips due to that very reason, plus time. Your approach to Social Media is smart. Thank you Pavlin.

You are absolutely right... FB is for many people a platform to be great, because they are a small number in real life and want to be admired. I only use FB in technical groups for technical tips for me or I can give tips. No food photos, no family fotos.... the same is YT for me. Only for my hobby ... technical films, traveling films sometimes political documentary films or historical films. I use very seldom Whatsapp or Signal (only family). Mostly I use YT in stead of TV. I thank all the people who make good films on YT. It s a lot of work to edit a film.

Weeeeellllllll, now that you mention it, I'm just a little bit in debt after following your channel and other ADV themed channels. You're right, I just need to go out and ride.

Social networks are nor social, nor networks. As you said, they are not our friends, they are our enemies. I left FB maybe 5-6 years ago and never regret it. I don't feel like going back there to live others lives. I have my own. Real.

So true indeed. Most of the adventure riders just try to immitate their fav "adv heroes" Like, al of them must go to this and that route, just to prove that they are real adventurers. Thats why Transfagarashan is overcrowded.
Thats why every 2-3 years theres millions of vids of the "new best adv bike". So much technical info, so little adventure. Like, they plan their routes on highways and 5star hotels. Man, they get 25-30K bikes, and never get out of rist class roads.
Wheres the adventure, wheres the unknown. Everything is well prepared, there are no surprises. I am not saying dont have a plan, but cmon.
The only thing missing is autopilot - just sit back and relax.

When I start thinking about that, if a person does travel (or anything) his/her own way, it is more likely that it will leave a mark in the other peoples minds and eyes!!
Rather than doing everything the same was as others, and not being truly happy in the process....

  • @allanb52
    @allanb52 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Correct as usual. Isn't South America going to be hot in December, I would have thought spring or autumn would be better time to travel? Now that you have cancelled Africa you could bring South America forward.
