When I first set out on a long journey, I brought my entire room with me. I think I only left behind my bass guitar and amplifier. After a few years of traveling, I now carry a 25-liter backpack, and that's more than enough for me. This video is exactly how I would describe to someone what I would take with me now.
Too many channels nowadays say things like "dump your old reliable tent, buy new expensive ultralight one" to save weight and/or make your trip successfull. Those are no more than thinly disguised commercials, IMO. Your channel makes more sense: use what you got, bring less and use your brain. So, if one is planning a trip to - say - Elbonia, how does one actually ship the spare tires and oil in advance ? Send them to hotel you are going to visit and call or email them ? Something else ?
I figured out the cheapest weight reduction plan most everyone can use. It is the most effective and help makes the rider more efficient. Drop the fucking donuts and shity processed food. Some can drop 50 pounds or more. 😂🤣🤔🤔👍👍
As always, good stuff! As a long distance, 7-9 months tourer, sometimes it’s hard to figure out what is needed or not. My cure was to become a minimalist, so now everything I own is on my bike … when I leave, everything goes. No more debate …
Hi Pavlin every time I watch your videos you give me hope to start the adventure this summer I will start and I will do all the things that you say in your videos many thanks 🇬🇷
Hi Palvin I am watching your video now for few years I find every video and your advice so helpful Everything you advise make sense Thank you for your help
I have to try that line with my wife next time we go on a road trip. 'Honey, if you can't fit it its not meant to be there" ( I am going to wear my helmet when I say that )
My brother, I love your minimalistic approach to ADV riding. It is said, The true test of intelligence is how much you agree with the person speaking. As a person from meager beginnings and now over 60 years I agree with you completely. I would love to one day ride with you.
Great channel breakdowns for you to separate your adventures and knowledge. I WANT TO THANK YOU. You were one of the first i found on adv. Motorcycle travel and I have followed for the last 2 years. In my time the more I traveled the less I took. If you don't use it leave it behind.. The less you take the more fun trip it is. Bare essentials only. Muti use equipment is a big plus. Sometimes i may not take a photo. I like the ride more. With nothing to prove or show it is much better. Light is right. I ride the ride. Twist the grip. RTW. Happy New Year Pavlin. Much to see and do @68.
I like the Swiss army knives. Some have pliers,saw,screw-drivers,file,scissors & more.Very light & compact. Thanks for great video about keeping weight down & being flexible & adapting to the changing adventure situation such as the weather.
I felt a bit dumb that only after years of motorcycling I finally did weigh my bags. I like to be quite self sufficient if needed as I like to travel quite remote places solo so some tools and spare parts, tent, gas stove etc are included so the weight goes up quite fast. For last trip I planned to go up to month on the road and I had "only" 3x 18 litre OS-18 kriega bags 7kg's each including the bag so no tank bags etc. It sounds quite heavy and I'm in the process of taking some kg's off but it feels like it is easier to take weight off from my belly. I dont pack my bags full becouse I like to have some space for food and water etc. So I would advise to weigh what you carry and make a list of all the stuff you carry so it is easier to modify it for future trips.
Oh and as it is not possible to be prepared for every possible technical problem I like to do some research and pick like 1 or 2 common (and preferably cheap) problems of the bike you are riding and prepare for them. Couple years ago I had very great luck with this tactic and fixed my fuel pump on small italian town as I knew it was quite common problem with the XRV 750 I had back then. Of course you can solve many problems on your trip without any parts or tools but it might be a bit more expensive and might take few days. Riding with buddies this would be MUCH easier
Great video, tips and advice, we travel two up..me & Mrs, on a multistrada 2 panniers and top box, no bags on top of panniers and often for 3 weeks at a time. “If something cannot go inside it goes out” best advice ever. Thanks Pavlin
Agree with you. In my 4500km trip in Turkey to Iran/Iraq/Saria borders i have only 100l backpack on my motorcycle. Including camping gear for wilderness. And it was perfect trip. I have no thing that i haven`t used :))
Currently i implemented a lot of your recommendations. I travel with 2x18L and 20L Kriega bags if i could offload to the bike the tools and tyre change stuff i would be golden.
Good video Pavlin, good objective recommendations! Weight is THE most important aspect in a trip. One thing that I personally won't do is carry as few clothes as you do, I want to be comfortable when I'm not riding and not taking tent and camping gear I can afford to carry jeans and a few more shirts and a pair of decent walking shoes.
Good tips from an experienced traveller, Pavlin. On journeys everybody finds out that we take too much luggage. That experience helps to plan the next trip with less. Less is more. But I do have tools and spare parts, rather more than less. Because the bike is paramount, it transports me form A to B and back. By the way, the bike parts you carry won't be needed ;-) Have a great 2024, Günter/Nürnberg
Hi I am from South Africa and have two bikes....Honda XR650L and BMW 1200GS Trophy (This model is standard....basically only road and rain mode and then abs.... shocks are manual). You always refer to the best motorcycle is the one in your garage... I need to sell one of these bikes due to space issues.... what will you recommend....or should I sell both and by a T7.... I am 60 years old and like off road riding but I need to do ashpalt roads because where I stay the good off road roads are about 2 hours from my house....Tx for all your nice videos!!!
@7:25 can't wait for the review. I am thinking of getting my first action cam to record my rides and I was looking at exactly this one. Hope you are going to give some good advice about how to use it as motorcycle rider :)
my girlfriend & I used a list of gear to bring.. Every trip we'd pack for, we would try to eliminate one thing not needed.. And try sand/rocks/whatever to weigh the bike & feel how bad things get riding & you'll know quickly to minimize!
I am certain that the osmo action camera will serve you well. I have the action 3 and am very happy with it. Only thing I note is that in hyperlapse it sometimes will just shut off by itself - not often but sometimes. Fortunately I have set it to make a sound when it does and I have it mounted on the handlebar so it is easy to restart. I have never had an overheating ptoblem - possibly because I dont keep the screen on all the time.
The lone rider tent ⛺️ gives you great options. Rain - park the bike inside, bring lightweight tall cot, able to pack up bike while dry, cook meals and sit in tent ⛺️ I even have the extension poles to allow for an extended camping area. Take a look at this tent ⛺️ it packs down small enough, I find it a great investment for camping ⛺️ and traveling on my motorcycle 🏍️ 😊

If your riding jacket and pants are waterproof, you don't need a rain jacket. Instead, get a 12V heated jacket that you can wear after riding, too. Get a small 12V tire pump (and sticky string plugger) and a LiOn jumper battery that can jump your bike AND has a USB port. How do you recharge that pump of yours?
Regrading waterproof gear - nothing lasts forever. Recharge the pump when I have access to power - hotels for example.
It recharges how? A standard walk plug to 5v DC charger?
Just trying to give you new ideas. My gear is VERY compact.
What are you travel socks, underwear and t-shirt made of? How do you clean them at the hotel? Do you bring a detergent for them with you?
Most of my clothes are synthetic materials. For hot days I wear cotton T-shirts. Socks are always cotton. I have only one soap with me.
If you just take a tent for backup emergency situation you may be better off to take a survival bivvy bag. Weighs less, and packs smaller.
I don't like the idea and I am not sure that I can sleep on it. Also, you cannot use it if there are no trees around, desert, beach, or flat lands...
