Turning to food for comfort is a very natural thing called emotional eating. This is when you crave food as a way to fill an emotional void rather than an actual physical one. It can really hinder your progress, cause you to feel powerless, and make you seek out how to overcome emotional eating for good.
    What is emotional eating?
Emotional eating refers to eating for reasons other than physical hunger. Eating is used as a coping mechanism to face certain emotions like sadness, boredom, stress, loneliness, etc. It's important to learn the differences between emotional hunger and physical hunger. You can then learn how to stop eating emotionally. I address all of this in this video so you can learn to stop using food for comfort, but I also talk about why emotional eating can sometimes be ok.

Just want to point out that emotional eating is also a thing for positive emotions. Like when you're proud of an accomplishment treating yourself with some unhealthy/comfort food, or when you're extatic or excited about something (or without reason) eating to calm yourself down. Eating as a celebration. Stuff like that can be (but are not always though!) just as unhealthy as emotional eating, for unhappy emotions or boredom.
I think it would be interesting to hear your take on this!

I totally agree ! I usually reward myself for something that i achieved but was very difficult (emotionnally, physically or mentally) with Food, Wether i am hungry or not (so even if i have raspberries... when you do not need to eat it is still overeating). I am slowly getting out of that mindset but it not that easy to find other ways to reward myself :p )

I used food to essentially self medicate very bad depression for a while, it got to the point where I could not stop eating constantly because it was literally the only time I could feel any positive emotion. If you are depressed please get help to treat the depression and save your self from the food addiction. It may feel like there is no point in trying to get better from depression if you feel like you have no hope of being happy again, but please, I have been there and I promise you can and will feel happiness again in your life. please tell someone what you are going through and ask them to help you get therapy, exercise, whatever you need and don't give up hope!

I have been implementing a ton of the points you've listed in the Why French Women series etc and feeling soo much better about food and feel better health-wise. Thank you! 😁

Such great info as usual. I recently started feeling emotional hunger due to stress but luckily for me I don’t keep junk or sweets around, I buy them once in a while so I couldn’t indulge but I started eating Greek yogurt and even though I was eating Greek yogurt so late at night. One thing I noticed was I wasn’t walking up feeling like crap which is how I would feel if I ate a ton of popcorn or potato chips during emotional eating. I also found making some decaf tea with milk soothe me and put me to sleep when I felt emotional hunger due to stress. Really arming yourself with the right tools and finding what tools work for you really helps. Great tips in this video.
