I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Grey at the _Stand and Deliver_ Los Angeles premier in 1988. She'd already had tremendous success with _Dirty Dancing_ when we crossed paths at a lavish food table. She admitted that the paparazzi made her nervous but since she wasn't in the movie being premiered, she was less so. Nonetheless, she suggested we find a corner table away from the premier madness. There we had a very pleasant conversation during which I couldn't help being impressed at how down to earth she was. She was very endearing often deflecting topics centering on her to questions about me and my experiences thus far in Hollywood. She could not have been sweeter. 💋

Tall house The projects dried out because her appearance changed.
It’s so obvious her father Joel Grey had a nose job, because he had an ethnic nose and changed his last name.
Jennifer Grey was way more attractive with her god given nose.

Wow, I'm listening to this interview with just such amazement at Jennifer's self awareness. She's just incredibly self-aware and lucid about her journey through life which is a very rare thing. It takes a willingness to really look and she's done that. I can't help but be struck by the fact that her rhinoplasty back in the 80s was such an uproar but today it's unbelievably common and probably wouldn't have even been a hiccup in her career! Look forward to reading her book. And I have to say this is the kind of interview you'd like to see more often: instead of listening to an interviewer asking a bunch of inane and superficial questions they just let the person talk at length, sharing with such insight and depth which is far more satisfying than a bunch of silly questions about their workout routine, what they eat, etc!

I read Jennifer’s book and really enjoyed it. I honestly felt really bad for her and at the same time furious about for her about the nose job debacle. It’s a classic example of the ridiculous beauty standards women are held to, especially in Hollywood. Jennifer never wanted a nose job but was pushed into it after dirty dancing when her career wasn’t taking off the way Patrick’s was. She went and got a very minimal nose job just to tweak her nose and if you look at pictures it was done really well. It looked better but wasn’t a drastic change. But then complications developed that forced her to get another corrective surgery and that is when her appearance was completely altered. The movie industry pushed her into plastic surgery and then abandoned her when she was no longer “recognizable” It’s really sad and unfair. I admire her strength in sharing her story.

I don't think Jennifer really stood a chance against Patrick as a formidable dancer
and at the same time very expressive, even though she played the female lead.
I think he was just more charismatic than she was at the time.
It had nothing to do with her nose.

She was one of my favorites when I was younger, I see natural beauty and Jennifer was the rare unique natural beauty not very often seen. It's great what shes doing because inner beauty is far more explosive than outer beauty and the messages she is sending is what needs to go out. Although I loved Dirty Dancing, WIND was my favorite movie with her.

I, like many people, thought she was such an incredible unique & natural beauty with her nose, and wished she’s kept it...judged her a bit for doing it. I hope her story helps other girls love their own uniqueness and not feel like they need surgery or to look a certain way.

She got famous after dirty dancing, but her career didn’t take off. In her interviews she tends to have this air about her like everything she’s saying is well rehearsed and so very carefully articulated. I’m truly not against her and want to like her but she’s putting something out there that is making it difficult. Where’s the down to earth person we once felt in her movie characters. Isn’t that some part of her? How about a spontaneous laughing snort every now and then. Everything doesn’t have to be so well defined and elegant. I think that’s what helps make the actors and actresses human and relatable is letting some flaw come through. Take Sandra Bullock for example, she gets it.

It sucks what Hollywood did to her - forced to get a nose job .. I wish she could’ve held out .. such a beauty!!! Still!!!

I believe if she hadn’t had the cosmetic surgery, she could have been a very good character actor.

There was no projection tho it's just that people fall in love with her through Dirty dancing and then she seemed like a totally different person but it was the same person so it was kind of weird. As she had started with her new nose no one would have said a thing. I love her tough she is a great actress and Dirty dancing is still one of my fav movie.

Let's be honest, she's much better-looking since she had the surgery ( the surgeon did a superb job) but the problem is she became unrecognisable afterwards ...She thought by having a plastic surgery she would have more professional opportunities in Hollywood but initially, she earned fame with her old looks... It is an interesting and rare case where the actress had a successful surgery ( she looks great!) but as a result her career flopped.

She looks AMAZING for her age but idk why i LOVED her nose and was so bummed when she got rhinoplasty. She was so differently beautiful. The curly hair the nose idk it was just so unique. After the procedure she looked good but it felt off.

    Very likeable lady.
I think the appeal of Dirty Dancing was the working class boy meets elite class girl love affair that takes place. Something everyone can relate to as we made our way through highschool & the mine field of hooking up with others, outside our own class system, during the summer month vacations. Much like Grease that was popular for much the same reason. Basically elite goodie two shoes girl meets the working class cool boy and falls in love but have to hide it scenerio. The dancing was phenomenal in both movies but the over-acting left litte to be desired in my opinion. With that said, I still enjoyed both movies regardless and have rewatched them both, quite often, over the past 40 years. As far as musicals go, they both rank high up on my list of favorites to watch,
At that age, as teenagers, we didn't really understand the amount of bigotry that comes from the upper class, or that it even existed as it does, but we are certainly understanding it today as we witness the attack on the present day working class from these very same class of people in our society. The ironic thing is that many of these people originally grew up in working class families and have an urealistic view of the world as they live behind their iron gates, in paranioa, and seem to look down upon the rest of normal society. Fame & fortune have a funny way of doing that and for good reason, the world is a dangerous place. Movies are an escape from that reality. All would do well to leave politics out of it and stick to their craft. IMHO
