    Fantastic! I love it when games let you breed large selections of pets. I distinctly remember playing a minecraft chicken mod that I got obsessed with a few years ago.

    Great devlog! Love the cats (both the in-game ones and the real ones!). That's really cool with the Sprite Libraries, did not know about that and I'll be filing that away for something to remember in the future. Also, holy cow...that shader looks insanely complicated. I definitely need to learn more about ShaderGraph. Great work though, WolKa! Always love seeing your progress.

    Very cute update. I have a feeling there's gonna be a lot of time spent on creating the perfectly colored cat :D
    Seeing the comment about weird cat colors, if its not too much work, having a setting that unlocks any color for wild animals / breeding could work.
    That way you could limit the palette to natural colors by default but if someone wants to go ham and have their pink and blue cat/cow/pig they could just toggle that.

    Lovely to see another devlog, this time with a quite a break in between :D. WIth the 6 month milestone, how do you rate your progress so far and how does it compare to your initially idea/schedule you had in mind before you started?

      Hmm, I'd say I'm definitely slower than planned, but I did expect that. I'm still very happy with the progress, and it looks like I can finish the first playable version soon. 🥳

    One note on the cats. I think most cats try and actually lead you to wherever you're going instead of following you. Like they want to be where you're going so they'll follow you but then they always run ahead of you to beat you to wherever it is you're headed. Maybe you could put the follow location like 2 or 3 character models widths in front of wherever the player is facing.

      Thanks for the nice idea! 😊That will be difficult though, since the system needs to work for other pets too, that I will add later. And I am not sure how that would look if the character changes directions a lot. Maybe I'll have something like that in the end, as a quest to follow animals somewhere... 🤔

    Loving your progress. Your skill is impressive, and your personality make the videos really fun to watch. I'm working on a game with a similar genre (not nearly as cute... or sci fi), but I would love to see some of your code (such as the shader for the cats). Looking forward to your next update!

    The cats look so adorable and squishable! Although I must admit, the green and red hues weird me out a little bit. Also, I was thinking that if the cats can be found out in the wild, it might make sense if their design was based off a Sand Cat. It would fit the desert theme well. Sand Cats are also SUPER cute!

      That's a nice idea. My plan is to have a few more fur patterns for the cats (and other future pets) and that the ones you can find in the wild all have natural colors. So green cats would only appear after deliberate breeding. :) I'm not sure the cats can be found on the desert planet yet though, I might place them on a different planet later. :)

      @@wolkadev Makes sense! Maybe you could find different types of cats on different planets? Visiting other planets could even unlock more breeding options as a result.

    Of course I will wishlist on steam. Already looking forward to the next video about shaders, I'm putting off working with them because I need to learn, it would certainly be nice to see. How much news!! you even created something to make me play for hours until I got the perfect cat color😂😂

    How do you deal with the shaders for lighting (night and day) and the shaders of the cat colors? Since you can only add one to a prefab?

      The cat fur is done by a shader, but the day and night lighting is a global 2D light. I change the light color with a script depending on the time. A gradient is super helpful here. If I choose a darker blue, the light will actually make my scene darker. :)

      @@wolkadev While I get the impulse to jump in and implement any system that you want to see, especially in the beginning you should focus on getting the core of your game done. Otherwise you will find yourself some time in the future with a bunch of perhaps needlessly indepth systems without a game at the center. And that will kill your motivation because you aren't seeing any meaningful progress. So my advice is: figure out the absolute minimum your game needs to function, and make that first. Then you can perhaps even release a demo of some sort and collect a first round of feedback. And *then* you can go back in and flesh out the various systems. That way you will always have something that is playable, and every new system will be a bonus (and beware of scope creep of course). Game development is always more work than it seems. And that is coming from someone who *still* underestimates how long it will take to implement any given thing 😉

    Wow 9:05 you have long code in 1 Script 14k+ Line...
    My advice it's best to keep each Script 200 Line, if more than 200 line must Refactor or make another Script, if you have more code in 1 Script, you will have hard time to debugging where the problem that make some errors...
    If you change 1 code, other code will not working because you have 14.000+ code in 1 Script.
    If you want to make small change, you must change all related code in 1 Script and it's take more time...
    Just some information...

      What you see there is the automatically generated save file, not any code I wrote by hand. 😊 14k lines of handwritten code would be insane indeed. 😱

    Füg Insekten hinzu welche deine Pflanzen angreifen und um was gegen die zu machen füge die Venusfliegenfalle oder andere fleisch fressende pflanzen hinzu die insekten von den Pflanzen weglocken. Oder für keine Insekten hinzu aber trotzdem Fleisch fressende pflanzen :D
