    I had a customer ask a few great questions about this project and wanted to share them with all the viewers here:
    Q: What length of YKK #10 Finished Zipper do I need to order?
    A: The length of the pipe should determine the length of zipper you buy. Because finished zippers are sold in increments they can be cut down in size when completing your project.
    Q: If I make a larger dog bed I understand the how to come up with the length measurement (measure your dog from nose to rear and add 6"), but how do I come up with the width measurement?
    A: Take the length measurement and divide it by 1.33 for the width measurement. Example our length measurement is 42": 42 ÷ 1.33 = 31.57” (rounded, so 32” is the width measurement)
    Q: How much binding should I order per corner?
    A: About 20" per side.

      Would this work with a rug in stead of fabrice?

    • @cluisap
      @cluisap 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@henryhagey5521 I think you can add some heavy duty velcro and then attach the carpet. I think the carpet is too thick for this project but you can attach it on the top with the velcro on the edge of the bed.

    Going to make this for my chihuahua. Shes an older dog and literally senile. When we're not home, we now keep her in a puppy pen because she pees wherever she wants and Im not going to put her down because of it. this bed will be perfect for her as i can easily wash it with odoban and then rinse clean and it will dry in no time. Dog beds aren't cheap and throwing them away when she pees on them is adding up $! But theres no truer love than from a dog, so the extra clean up with her old age is worth it!!!

    PVC Caps on the ends of the legs would be a nice finishing touch. No sharp edges on the flooring. Now we need a soft fluffy dog bed to fit on the platform. Gotta spoil our buddies.

  • @hdflame

    Couldn't you make this without the zipper since you're taking the PVC apart to put it on?

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Without the zipper in one sleeve it would be very difficult if not impossible to insert the last leg of the PVC pipe. We designed the mesh cot to be very tight when inserted on the frame.

      Sailrite I have used your videos for so many projects and dumb me! didn't try to find this on your website! I thought, hmmm, I can sew one of these myself, and didn't think of using a zipper, and I can totally attest to the 'difficult if not impossible' to insert the last leg of the PVC pipe! I ended up having to make the fabric too loose in order to get the last leg in! btw, I haven't been able to find those corner pieces at big box stores here - had to order them online...

    Thanks for this wonderful tutorial. My 11-year-old Lhasa Apso is not so great at jumping up on beds or sofa anymore and the floor is too cold for her. Besides her cozy crate, I've been wanting a portable bed suitable for her height. Looks like I'll have to make it now :)

    • @SailriteDIY
      @SailriteDIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fabric we used is called Sunbrella Sling, it is a mesh fabric with both Acrylic fibers (which are soft) and vinyl coated polyester. So, it is both comfortable and very breathable since it is a mesh. Another choice would be Phifertex Plus which is also a mesh, not as soft but it too will stay cool since it is a mesh fabric. You can get both at: www.sailrite.com

    • @SailriteDIY

      Yes, the Phifertex Plus vinyl mesh fabric is very strong and the PVC frame is amazingly sturdy so yes it should easily hold up to your Rottie's. This is a DIY project so you can purchase the PVC tubing and hardware for the frame from a local hardware store. The fabric and sewing supplies can be ordered at www.sailrite.com. We do ship our fabric and supplies for DIY to New Zealand.

    PVC contains some of the most potent toxins known to man. Read up on PVC, it can emit toxins in your home... I was going to make some shoe holders from PVC tubing until I read about the toxins. While these beds may be an easy DIY for the typical pet owner, health wise it's probably not the best choice.

      Plastic pipe such as PVC (polyvinyl chloride, used for cold water only), and CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, used for both hot and cold water) have been around for years, and both are approved for use with drinking water.

      +Taylor Russell And fast food used to be served in styrofoam for years until they decided to ban it because it was a known carcinogen. Just because it's been around for a long time doesn't mean it's safe in every situation, and in this case particularly a dog bed that will be slept on 8 hours a day or more. Just trying to keep others informed. Thank you for your videos.
