- Udaipur, located in the state of Rajasthan, India, is renowned as the "City of Lakes" and serves as the administrative headquarters of the Udaipur district. It is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the former Rajputana Agency. Founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II of the Sisodia clan of Rajputs, the city was established when he shifted his capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur following a siege by Akbar. Udaipur remained the capital city until 1818, when it became a British princely state, and later part of Rajasthan after India gained independence in 1947.
The city is situated in the southern part of Rajasthan, near the Gujarat border, surrounded by the Aravali Range, which separates it from the Thar Desert. Udaipur is known for its picturesque setting, history, culture, scenic locations, and the Rajput-era palaces. It has been dubbed "the most romantic spot on the continent of India" by British administrator James Tod. The city's economy is primarily driven by tourism, with its historic forts and palaces, museums, galleries, natural locations, and gardens attracting visitors from around the world. Udaipur is also known for its educational institutions, including the prestigious IIM Udaipur.
The city's geography is marked by a series of lakes, including Fateh Sagar Lake, Lake Pichola, and others, contributing to its nickname "Venice of the East." The climate is hot semi-arid, with distinct summer, monsoon, and winter seasons, making it a popular destination for tourists, especially during the cooler months.
Udaipur's rich cultural heritage, combined with its natural beauty and historic significance, makes it a unique and enchanting destination in India.

Udaipur is surely the most beautiful and less crowded City of central India. Lakes, palaces,rope way and traditional architecture of buildings with long history. But i think you visited on holiday that's why city palac was filled with tourists
