In France the cost of Kwh is around 0.20€ (even 0.13€ with a specific electric subscription) while the petrol is 1.70€ by liter. It's even cheaper. With thermic you have the cost of car servicing each year (~300€), the véhicule registration (500€ for golf 13€ for Tesla M3), the cost of wear brakes etc...
Good video, but digging into how the petrol is extracted, and transported rather than the sheer economics might give a broader picture. The fact that a Tesla can be charged at home with solar panels whilst the golf is dependent on fuel refineries, or the fact that a liter of fuel contains the equivalent of 8.9 kWh of energy just shows how inefficient and wasteful ICE cars are.
@14energy that is fantastic if you're able to charge with the vehicle at home during sun! (Or if you have a big enough battery to transfer it into). Theoretically driving for free 👌🙂
Well, not sure if it would be a fairer comparison, since the EV still triumphed greatly going against a super efficient Golf - on the other hand, we only have this Golf available, so it would be impossible to make tests with other models :-) Perhaps if my subscribers and viewers grow much more, I will get the possibility to get my hands on some more cars. For now, we just have this Golf - and a LR coming up in a couple of weeks ;-)
A fair comparison would be fuel tank for the golf and e.g. 80% charge for the Tesla. And after that test fuel up and make the measure. Tesla also ways underestimate the consumption ;-)

Also they eat front tyres and they suffer cupping on the rear tyres. All and all you are lucky to drive more than 30kkm on a 4 set of tyres. That's way, waaaaay more expensive in maintenance than a Model3 longrange. And than the price (same as a quick Golf) the nice infotainment system of the Tesla, the power and acceleration..... why would you still buy a car from a company that will be bankrupt in on 2 years from now. Hi Fench - just picked up a 2024 M3P too. Coming from a M240ix that excelled on the motorway with MPG, even when driving at 80MPH, the Tesla is the inverse of this. I know efficiency plummets when doing similar speeds in the MP3 consistently but I’m trying to find a happy medium without falling asleep with boredom. Loving the car though! 🇬🇧 Brit here too, hence bad knowledge of KPH!
@marccarpentier2398 hi Marc, congrats on the M3P! I'm afraid that once you go above 70-75 mph. the range suffers considerably. It's just something us fast drivers have to come to terms with when choosing an EV. I, however, still prefer driving fast even if it means having to do a quick charging stop. Most importantly, for me, is that I continue to use he car as if it was a petrol car. I don't want it being electric to be something I have to think about. I.e. for parking etc. I then rather take one extra charging stop en-route. Some people go as far to have a folding bike in their car to go to chargers far from their actual destination. @@UCh5Y7Xd0i3UUWRpAjFs A fair comparison would have been a Golf R, as well as accounting for charge loss etc. But that would just have made the difference even bigger tbh. Same with calculating distances to the garage, everything seems fine. Occassionally it has said there was an obstacle, where there were none, but that has only been on gravel roads where I guess the cameras picked up some disturbance. All in all, not a reason not to buy the Tesla - in my opinion. So you were drafting whole time behind the Golf. So your comparison is not valid. You should have swapped cars on the front. The front car will always consume more because of aero drag.
As you can see from the video we always kept good distance from eachother, any aero drag would have been negligible. It definitely wouldn't have been enough to flip the consumption numbers opposite of each other ;-)
