As an old African-American man who fell in love with Wales from a visit to North Wales in 2017, once I ran across Mr. Buck's soulful version I play this video close at least once a day. Thank you Malcolm.

Oh Diolch yn fawr - thank you for sharing. We got a lot of love for African Americans. Paul Robeson did a lot for our plight back in the day, so when a black church was bombed in Alabama in September 1963 - we knew we had to give at least something back, so we designed a new stain glass window and shipped it over for them (complete with an authentic looking black Jesus).
In Cymru (Cum-Ree) (Wales is the name given by the overlords which means Foreign/outsider/slave depending on its context) - in Cymru we look out for those who have looked out for us and will sing songs of those deeds

My Grandads last words to me as a naive 17 year old whilst lying in a Llanelli hospital bed were that Myfanwy was the greatest love song ever written. I had never contemplated when I left the hospital that night that I'd never see my hero again. He knew though, that's why he left me this parting gift. So that whenever I hear it so eloquently sung and the tears roll down my face, I am reminded that his spirit lives on inside of me. That was beautiful Malcolm

I'm from Swansea and my Grandfather was in Morriston choir so would sing this to me as a child 30 something yrs ago, I shed a tear everytime I hear it. He passed whilst I was a teen and he will always be my hero too, being the oldest of 4 grandchildren and the only girl, I was Bampas girl.😥 This was his and my favourite hymn so brings back many memories but I'm so proud of my Welsh heritage and my Bampa for what he achieved and did for others during his lifetime🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿💕

As an old Welshman a long, long way from my birthplace in the valleys, this has brought me to tears and transported me back to my youth sat in the local Club with both my grandfathers, my father and his brothers (all coal miners) listening to them singing on a Saturday afternoon. Ancestry has helped find my Welsh Grandparents on Dad's side. They where lost to me as Dad wasn't a great chatter ( a taffy trait I suspect). But being bloody minded ( certainly a taffy trait ) I searched and found them, and Aunty Myfannwy and so many rich names and tales. And now the kicker being a born English midlander, I wandered why I would weep when passing through North Wales as I do every year and get tearful at these songs ... Now I know that is Grandpa and Grandma, all my Aunties and Uncles going back to the Flintstones singing to me .. calling me home! Can there be a gene inside us all that calls to us over generations ... I really don't know and am open to opinions. I hope your ancestors call to each and everyone, trick will be to hear them clearly!

Where now the sound of your sweet words,
That drew my heart to follow you?
Pa beth a wneuthum, O Myfanwy

Was it a game for you, Oh Myfanwy,
This poet's golden flame of love?
You belong to me, through true promise,
Too much to keep your word to me?
I'l never seek your hand, Myfanwy,
Unless I have your heart with it.
Myfanwy boed yr holl o'th fywyd

Myfanwy, may your life entirely be
Beneath the midday sun's bright glow,
And may a blushing rose of health
Dance on your cheek a hundred years.
I forget all your words of promise
You made to someone, my pretty girl

@@130alon Well said ! This song is about two lovers from their childhood , but ended up breaking up & the man was really hurt as he still loved her .For some reason she was really mad at him. This song is very haunting to me for a very personal reason as my childhood friend , my soulmate who loved me for all his life ( which I didn't know ! And I knew at the same time as he told me, but didn't believe !A long story. As my old bestfriend betrayed me & tored us apart & I went in my PTS w/ o realizing it )& he was the 1st told me about this song as it was his dad's favourite song. He tried to reach out to me very hard , but we got strong oppositions from her ( my ex friend )& others .He misunderstood me & I was mad at him for a while as he listened to her & went along w/ her plot against me( as I broke his heart when he was 13 & 15 & did somethings really unthinkable & I shut him out , though I forgave him , I just wanted to be left alone for a long while .).He commited suicide. I'll never forgive myself for not reaching out to him ! I tried it at the end , but it didn't work out as I lost my dad for a cancer & couldn't travel far as for the timing & a financial issue & stress would had caused my mom.He was performing in Japan ( my country ). My soulmate was trying to clear my name for me when he went in a deep depression ! He was a Welsh rock drummer , Jon Lee .The story reported at the time of his death is a fat lie ! Very far from the truth ! He never would slapped a woman's face !!! Never ! Now I am finally woken up from my PTS/ nightmares .I have to clear his image & name !
