These boys are great, it also reminds me of when in the army at Brecon and going on foot up Dowlias hill toward Tredegar, hoping for a lift to where I lived, and on a Sunday morning. The Dowlais chapel congregations were 'in full song' and as I walked up over Dowliais Hill I could hear the singing, from each chapel, as if to out-do each other. A lovely memory for mine , I was 18, and it was a warm June day in 1956.
Love this song even more special to hear Nigel and the choir sing , not just a good few but great singer as well x reminds me of my mum and dad so thankyou
This was my father's favourite song. In the words of the late, great Ryan Davies "The greatest love song ever written in any language". Who am I to argue with those two great men.
Best performance I ever have in my 81years heard. The usual near inaudible roar of bottom bass, is in this performance so nicely balanced with the more prominent alto, and not least the perfect Ballard voice of Mr Owen to capture the pathos. Well done and much thanks.
St Davids day today 2016 I am listening to this with tears streaming down my face so so emotional love the choir Nigels amazing I love love my home Wales
Absolutely first class , there is nowhere else in the world where you experience the passion of Myfanwy than in Wales with a male voice choir ...and our Nige ,epic .
As a South African who at times got very irritated with Nigel Owens on the rugby pitch, I was completely blown away with his wonderful rendition of Myfanwy. Fantastic - Nigel all is forgiven!
Myfanwy, one of the most moving pieces of choral music ever! Hearing it sung with so much passion & sincerity, with Nigel Owens solo as a bonus, makes me very emotional, especially in these very difficult times. Full marks to the Welsh Government for being hyper proactive in its effort to protect its people from the scourge of Covid-19. Stay Safe!
Agonisingly exquisite. There is music, and there is Welsh music. There are choirs and there are Welsh male voice choirs and there are referees and there is Nigel Owens. A wonderful four and a half minutes. D.Thomas wondered in Under Milk Wood if there were still tenors in Dowlais and thankfully there still are.
It's okay both are Celtic nations so it's only natural that there's a resonance between all Celtic nations, hell England was once Celtic with their language brythonic, unfortunately England has lost its Celtic heritage in a way, I'm hispano-celtic, and yes there is such a thing.
Last evening I spent the evening with my friends who had come to visit me here i Cornwall our conversation turned to Welsh music Choirs and singers my favourite I said is Mafanwy by the Treorchy male voice choir, this morning I find this version which has blown me away , what a voice Nigel Owens has here with the fabulous Dowlais Choir , this is the first time I have heard them , it won’t be the last .
Nigel, you made me cry mate. Beautiful voice, I promise to never scare you ever again. You actually made me cry instead of the other way around. Yols xx
@@PatrickKelly-lz3pv Population grows perhaps but that is simply further diluting the English identity. The country is a mere shadow of itself 50 or 60 years ago but hey ho, no one's listening to an old duffer like me !
Beautiful. Top referee, probably the best and it seems a top singer. I could see the pithead wheel turning. Thanks for posting. Brilliant. Glad I found it.
I deeply love welsh choirs: but it never fails to amaze me, than in all those valley, with all that musical heritage, they never find and send ahead that most powerful and essential of all beings : a bl**dy piano tuner.
There's 2 religions in Wales. Rugby and singing. And even though I'm English ( With a Welsh grandmother, Auntie and cousins) I believe the Welsh are the best at both. And long may that continue.
I thought the Neath male voice choir rendition was the best I'd heard until I heard this one. Superb. I'm English, and I've never heard anything that comes anywhere near Myfanwy. And where did that middle verse come from? Nigel Owens and Dowlais, take a bow!
Is there a welshman on earth that can't sing ? I've never heard one sing badly. That was lovely . P.S I'm (dare i say it after the last 6 nations!) irish .
It is one of the worst versions of Myfanwy on you tube musically wise. It's just three cheers for the effort.! The choir are singing with open vowels - no " cover" whatsoever and the soloist is flat.
I bow to your superior knowledge on the subject of vowels, but to my ear, it still sounded OK. Nigel Owens may not be a professional singer, and you may not like how he sounded, but he didn't sing flat, in my opinion.
Why is it anger, O Myfanwy, That fills your eyes so dark and clear? Your gentle cheeks, O sweet Myfanwy, Why blush they not when I draw near? Where is the smile that once most tender Kindled my love so fond, so true? Where is the sound of your sweet words, That drew my heart to follow you? 2. What have I done, O my Myfanwy, To earn your frown? What is my blame? Was it just play, my sweet Myfanwy, To set your poet's love aflame? You truly once to me were promised, Is it too much to keep your part? I wish no more your hand, Myfanwy, If I no longer have your heart. 3. Myfanwy, may you spend your lifetime Beneath the midday sunshine's glow, And on your cheeks O may the roses Dance for a hundred years or so. Forget now all the words of promise You made to one who loved you well, Give me your hand, my sweet Myfanwy, But one last time, to say "farewell". It's a love song, but it ranks as one of the saddest love songs in the world.
Is there any man in that choir who is less than 70 years old? All-male singing is dying out, the world over. It is moribund in the US. There was a time, alas, when it filled our universities.
My late dad's favorite song. It was played at his funeral. Loved my dad so much. Xxxxxxx

One of the most beautiful, saddest and poignant love songs and a lovely job by Nigel Owens and Dowlais Male Voice Choir. Diolch yn fawr.
Just wonderful, my favourite song which always brings a tear, it's so beautiful. Lovely to hear Nigel again, miss him on the field.

Not only the best rugby referee for decades but what a velvet smooth voice, well impressed 👌
This is just my favourite song by a superb choir and of course Nigel Owens. No one can sing this song like the Welsh just so moving.
Wonderful. Boy oh boy Welsh men can sing like no other nation. Well done.

Love the way they linger on the name Mfanwy. This is truly one of the world's most beautiful songs.
Not only the Worlds best Ref, also an amazing voice here. Ardderchog Nigel
I love this version of Myfanwy, I find it so touching especially Nigel Owens singing it brings tears to my eyes.
As a South African who at times got very irritated with Nigel Owens on the rugby pitch, I was completely blown away with his wonderful rendition of Myfanwy. Fantastic - Nigel all is forgiven!
Wish I had become a Male Voice Choir member all those years ago.
Well done Nigel for realising your dream.
It's never too late Terence
Just magnificent - thank you for bringing a tear to my eye! 🏴🏴🏴
Il sait tout faire ce Nigel ! Félicitations de France !
Back again to hear Greatest choir ever.....believe me i have heard many.....even better than the one i sang in. They are all absolute KINGS.
Oooohhhh, goosebumps all over! I'm German and love Welsh hymns!
From an Englishman. Absolutely Beautiful. I cant actually find the words to fully describe it, So "absolutely beautiful" will do for now

Awesome my daughter name brings back so many memories sad and good times ❤️
my goodness, this would break your heart in pieces. God Bless the Welsh, Scots and Irish, suffering nations!
Funny that. The only one you NEVER hear mentioned or whose culture is NEVER celebrated is the ENGLISH.
The working people of England suffer just the same. It is the establishment you resent, surely, not the ordinary folk.
@@andycap1188 That isn't true. English traditions and songs are carried on in many small villages and in the folk music and dance traditions.

Piano ruins this lovely choir and wonderful song. Totally unnecessary!
I'm sorry to disagree here - but Mr Owen stick to the day job!
Boo!
I'm inclined to agree with Gareth, but Nigel was very brave to expose himself, so fair play to him. Chwarae teg.
