    NOTE: If you aren’t able to obtain either the US or Australian floetrols, try other options for cell activator like Amsterdam paint & water mixed thin or even silicone , this is your art, have fun with it!! 🤗💜

    • @ThePaintedDreamer

      Silicone works a bit differently than the cell activator I use here. They both will create cells just different effects. I did an experiment with the Owatrol (European floetrol) in the Fall and one oil I used in conjunction with it was a drop of silicone so maybe give that a try with this recipe and see how it works for you instead of using the Minwax prestain. A little goes a long way with silicone so I would start with one or two drops only and see how it works out. I’d love to hear how it worked out for you Paul 🤗

    Hi Jody, I'm curious why people are using this Minwax oil-based wood conditioner, as opposed to other oils. Do you think a drop or two of the coconut oil hair conditioner would work as well? Have you ever tried it? What is the difference (in the finished painting) between using Silcon oil or using the Minwax product? Love your videos and your paintings. To my eye, they are the most wonderful blooms and transfer paintings. Thanks so much for sharing your work and techniques.

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Gail 🤗 that’s a great question, with the blooms and how the technique was initially formed it was to try to get away from using any kind of silicone oil, it was initially using Australian floetrol and we came to find out that the US floetrol is a little different makeup because products to make it are different in each of the countries and an oil component was necessary and the Minwax fit the bill. You can certainly try silicone oil if you want, but it may leave a residue on your pieces so you’ll want to clean them before finishing them. Check out my Owatrol experiments I recently did, I was trying to get the Owatrol to work as cell activator and was experimenting with different oils and silicone was one of them so I bet you could use silicone if you wanted to, totally try it and see how it works for you! 😃💜

      @ThePaintedDreamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SweetsnTreatsbyGee I think I answered this for you in another comment also but the pillow paint I’m using the first one I put down, before my colors, is Glidden Premium base 1 pure white in either Satin or Eggshell depending on how cold it is here. Lately I’ve been using Satin as it’s a bit thinner but both are my go to. I don’t have any luck with the Sherwin Williams Color to Go white, just too thick for me and doesn’t want to move. You could add a little water but too much will work against you and may do weird things to the paint. You could try adding a bit of GAC 800 it helps with both thinning and cracking, about a tablespoon per cup. 😊

      Hi Laura, when I use Australian floetrol you don’t need the glue, ink or Minwax, this recipe is only if you are going to be using the US floetrol as it has a different make up and in order for it to produce cells similar to the Australian floetrol, the additional ingredients are used. I have gotten the US floetrol to work at a higher ratio of 9 or 10:1 with just the paint like the Australian but it’s VERY finicky and works when it wants to. I do have videos on this as well but if you want less finicky and are using the US floetrol, this is the way to go 🤗💜

      Yes you can use black or whatever other color. You may need to adjust a little because different paints will have different densities though. If you don’t have that color ink just use a little distilled water then however too much water can break paints apart so just be mindful of that. 💜

      The video where I was using the higher ratio without the other ingredients was me wanting the US floetrol to work on its own and it can but it can still be finicky and fussy depending on the pouring medium or paints used. I would use either, if one doesn’t work then try the other. This one with the Minwax, glue etc is less fussy and just works so there are two options instead of one. does anybody have any recomendation for a good substitutre to "amsterdam"?

      I’m not sure there is a good alternative when combining it with the US floetrol as Amsterdam paint is super Celly and responsive. If you have another titanium white though give it a try and see if it works. 💜

    Thank you for showing, I mix mine a bit differently I go 3 to 1 Floetrol to Paint and I don't use glue or ink. It also makes beautiful lacing/ cells without the wood conditioner.

      Absolutely! Yea, I just couldn’t get the floetrol/paint to work on it’s own without the other ingredients.. I’m so glad you were able to get it to work for you! 😊💜

    If your American floetrol CA doesn’t work as well, add a bit more of the wood conditioner. It works for me.

      Thank you so much Donna, that wood conditioner does help a lot 🤗💜

    I LOVE this recipe but it doesn’t work with all paints, go figure. It’s always something, isn’t it? 😊. I wonder if I should get some PVA? I made this with Elmer’s Glue-All. Do you have a video of different paints that play well with CAs?

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the US floetrol is a lot more finicky than the Aussie stuff and not all paint works well with it. Amsterdam seems to work well with both floetrols so I always recommend that one, plus you can use it as your color paints too so if you had to buy only one paint that would be the one. I did a video on different paint brands with the Australian floetrol but not with the US as of yet, it takes a lot of prep and testing and I just haven’t been able to do it. It’s on my list though 🤗💜

    Wondering has anyone tried Mont Marte or Elmers clear glue in the mix?

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t tried mont marte paint but I have tried regular Elmer’s glue all to replace the Lineco and it worked just fine, you can use either. If you have the clear I say give it a go and see what happens. Let me know how it works out for you Kim 🤗

    I noticed that although you say 4 tsp to 1 tsp in the recipe, you actually are making it with 4 tbsps to 1 tsp. Which one is right?

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pam! In this video I made 4 tsps of the floetrol to 1 tsp of the paint and then added the additional ingredients. I used 1 Tbsp as that equals 3 tsps and then added an additional tsp of the floetrol to make 4 tsps. Sorry it was a little confusing for you. Also I’ve done a more recent video with the US floetrol CA where I got it to work just with the Amsterdam paint at a higher ratio if you want to give that a go also, it’s video #91. 🤗💜🌺

    why the ink??

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To add more color without more paint that may thicken the mixture otherwise and to help thin it if needed. 😊

    Jody I purchased all the products that You use in this you tube video… my question to you is you also put out another video around a year ago where you show us that you were able to have SUCCESS with ONLY U S Floetrol and Amsterdam Tit. White paint. My question is maybe I really do not need to go to all the trouble and expense of all these other products within *is You tube video which are U S Floetrol, glue, Tit. White paint, minwax & INK Amsterdam Tit. White but I can have success with just the 2 products. An you please help me and let me know because it is confusing and much more expensive. I appreciate all you do to help us struggling artist.

      That second video I did with the higher ratio of US floetrol and Amsterdam only was more a test to see if I can actually get it to work, and I did but it’s still finicky and works with some pouring mediums and not so much with others. This recipe video 16 is a sure thing, it just works. Some have even used that other video’s recipe and added just the Minwax also with success. It’s what works best for you, in your environment. I provide a few ways to go about it but ultimately it’s what works best for you and everything else you are using as well. Try just the higher ratio first maybe and see how it works for you and if it’s absolutely being finicky maybe get some of the Minwax to add into it and see if that’s better for you 🤗

    I supose the 2 spoons are different but u describe both as TS. Why?

    • @ThePaintedDreamer
      @ThePaintedDreamer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I explained in the video the recipe is 4:1 ratio and I use tsps, 3 tsps = 1 tbsp and I needed 4 tsps for the floetrol hence 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp for that 4 parts and then 1 tsp of paint 😊
