I think you did an awesome job, I aways enjoy watching your videos, I learned a lot from this video. I just bought the Behr 8300 and the miniwax Polycrylic gloss varnish, now I can't wait to use it.
I'm so glad I watched this a second time, and learned so much more, thank you for doing this class, as I love your art and how they finished after they dry.
Thank you so much for explaining about the base paint and polyurethane and mixing measurements and choosing the gloss or semi gloss. I’m so new to this and appreciate your taking the time to teach us!
OMG what a good idea. I'm only at the part where you mentioned the freezer paper and that is an amazing idea. No need to waste tiles, canvases anything else. That was a fantastic tip. Now back to the video. 😃
This video is succinct and incredibly informative. You definitely cleared up my questions about base and PM. Thank you so much for taking the time. So very grateful
Thank you so much for this. You truly explained everything down to a tee. I started painting last year and got overwhelmed and gave up. I decided to look into it again and found Arisa Roo Art and she mentioned you. I must say I'm getting my confidence back and I'm setting up to begin again. Thank you so much for this.
You’re very welcome Jennie! I completely understand how it can be overwhelming as I’ve been there and I want it to be as easy as possible to begin and be successful! Great video, good clear instruction, good to see the side by side results of the two different recipes. I think I will get a can of Behr and try it. I still have a gallon of the original HGTV SW UDB and wonder what the difference is with the new Infinity HGTV SW. It will be fun to experiment, thanks for sharing your results! Happy painting! :)
Thanks so much Janice! I’d love to hear how you like the Infinity compared with the OG HGTV. I never did use it so I have nothing to compare it to. Have fun!! 😃😃💜
Thank you for this video. I'm hoping to see a video of the Blooms you get from these paint mixtures. I especially want to see how the Colour Arte pigments work for you. I am a big fan of yours!
Hi Liz! You’re very welcome ☺️ .. I do have a video with those colors I mixed up doing blooms, I have to edit it and it will be out on Sunday! I love ColourArte pigments those and the This Little Piggy pigments are my two favorites and my go to 😃💜💜
@@ThePaintedDreamer Thanks for replying. I just want to see the difference in how the Colour Arts and TLPs compare to each other....especially when they are dry. Thanks so much. I'll be looking for your next video to see how well they 'played' together in the new PM combos you made.
Thank you for your videos...super informative, easy to understand and follow, & love how you suggest/recommend various alternatives...I have learned so much from watching your posts!
Thank you for such an in depth video. For me, and I am just a beginner to this art form,, you did a great job of explaining the who, what and how to mix these paints.
You’re welcome, I’m glad it was helpful 🤗 I have a few other mixing videos with other paints I’ve experimented with and also a beginners tutorial for the blooms if that will help 💜
@@ThePaintedDreamer I have watched almost all of them, several times to be exact and I find an extra tip here and there that I missed the first or second time. Thanks for all of your videos. They are helping so much.
Jodi I must say you are my go to gal for bloom technique info. This will be my go to video for PM mixing. Love your tips and tricks on this video not to mention you references with Bling, Super Bling, and Dollips. One question I have is how long do you let your art pieces cure before you put resin on them. I know most of my other acrylic pours I let them sit from 4 to 6 weeks before I clean and resin them or varnish them. once again thank you so much for your shared knowledge on this technique. I have to admit this is not a cheap venture. I am hoping to finally get a decent results. I took the course way back when and just walked away from it as I just could not get it.
Aww thank you so much Kaye, I appreciate your kind words ☺️ .. I usually let my pieces cure about 4 weeks before I varnish or resin. I agree, this is not a cheap venture at all but I hope some of my tutorials can help there! 🥰
This, along with learning from so many others over the years..this tutorial (now seeing it) is exactly to a T!! Nothin at all left out! Most precise tutorial evahhhhh! I’ll b sharin this for sure!!
Now this is what I've been waiting for I just came across your video and you just started explaining things about if you cannot receive these products where you live... and that's exactly my problem... so thank you for breaking this down it will make it a lot easier and maybe I might get excited about this thank you
Your videos on mixing the mediums, are so thorough and simplified with great explanation. Thank you so much for helping us on the way in this complex journey towards understanding and hopefully making a bloom piece. I live in Denmark, and due to tuff restrictions we don't have any of theses product, but understanding what it is and does, I think it can be possible to figure it out. So again thank you for some great videos 🤗
You are so welcome Heidi, I’m so glad that this has helped in the understanding of what types of products to use for the blooms. I hope you are able to get ingredients that will work well for you in Denmark! Let me know if you have any other questions! 🥰
This was an excellent and very informative video, Jodie. Thank you for taking the time to compare these recipes for all of us. Now, once again, I'm wishing that the Behr we have in California was the same as what you use, but I guess I can try my own comparisons to see how the Behr I have compares to using just the Infinity and JS. This was very helpful!!
I’m so glad it was helpful Kimberly! Originally I was hearing that the 2-8300 was the same but now I’m hearing it is not the same as the 8300 we get outside of California. If you do end up getting a quart of it to test out, let me know your thoughts on it and how you like it, I’m super curious! ☺️
@@ThePaintedDreamer Unfortunately, I bought a gallon of the Behr 2-8300 early on, when we all thought it was the same. I'be been using it with your 2:1:1 ratio of Behr to Glidden to One Coat, but I've been disappointed with my cells, so I'm going to try just the Infinity/Jo Sonja this week to see if I fare any better. Though, I was really loving the sparkle and bling that your Behr gave to the paints and pigments in your video! You are much appreciated!
There are many that can work, I like to give options as not everything is available to all or they are different price points so it nice to have options 🤗💜🌺
@@ThePaintedDreamer Not only did you provide us with a lot of information, but you were very clear and concise, which I really appreciated. I have been painting with acrylics and oils for some time, but I am just starting out doing this technique and like to have as much good understandable information as possible. I greatly appreciate your being willing to share your knowledge and experience with all of us.
@@MaeMae-vg8wo oh good, I’m so glad to be able to help you as you get started! I’m the opposite, I started with fluid art but now I want to learn more about acrylic and oil painting 🤗
NOTE: If you can’t find these brands or are in a different country the components you want are an untinted base house paint (base c or d, base 3 or 4 whichever is lowest, deep base or ultra deep base or neutral base) plus a water based polyurethane gloss varnish to make up your Pouring Medium. If you want to try a more traditional pouring medium base because you can’t get certain components, TOTALLY go for it and give it a try 😃 it’s YOUR Art after all! 💜 Another Note: You don't have to use the Behr in this mix you can totally just use the Infinity with the Jo Sonja Varnish at 4:1. You could also just use the Behr as well but it can get very slippery by itself and weird out your cells which is why I would use another untinted base with it to cut down on the meandering ways the Behr can be.
@@liletteautrey8481 The first in the series (ABC or 123 etc) would be for your pillow paint as that will have the most titanium in it. It will usually also say white on the can. For your untinted base for your pouring mediumyou want the last in the series as that will have the least amount of titanium in it and will be the clearest.

@@QueenNazaneen The measuring spoons I got from the dollar tree, the mixing sticks I get on Amazon and they are in my Amazon Storefront in the description box below the video. I can’t remember if I also used the little silver spoons but those come from the dollar tree in the party section. I think that covers all the spoons in the video 😊
I live in the Florida Keys. No walmart target home depot or lowes for 50 miles. I cannot thank you enough for explaining the basics and the differences in base paints for pouring mediums
You’re welcome Catherine, I’m glad it helped 🤗. I’ve been to the keys many times when I lived down there so I understand the scarcity of those stores on that stretch! There’s a lot of other bases that will work just as well besides what I have tested here but as long as you can understand the concept you can make a lot of things work. Have fun! 💜💜
Thank you soo much for clearing up the medium issues...I use only liquitex medium with my Decoart enamel...all others dull down the sheen totally. The vintage brass is my favorite...wish it liked something else but nope!
Hi Jody, thanks for sharing! It was a great help. The EU - where I live - is not really a “somewhere isolated island”, but most of the SheleeArt technic ingrediences are not available here. Don’t know why, but I think it has something to do with enviromental laws or restrictions. A satin Base C house paint i.e. is nowhere for sale, but I did find a Base C mat to experiment with. But buying Minwax or other components, thru Amazon costs a fortune and forever to get here from the other side of the pond or from Australia. But I did manage to get my hands on a JoSonja PU varnish. So I’m still not giving up and will keep experimenting with the paints they do sell here in Holland! Thanks for your help so far!
Thanks for all the information you give us, here in Australia, except for Floetrol of course it's quite difficult to get some of these products, or maybe the people in the relevant outlets are very uncooperative? Absolutely love your colours they are so liberating! I wish I could use some of these designs and colours on clothing especially retaining the vibrant colours. Jo from Canberra.
You’re welcome Jo! Since you are in Australia and this technique was created by Shelee who is in Australia you would actually be using the same products she uses. If that’s something that interests you I highly recommend her online class. It’s what I took to learn this but I had to adapt for US products except for the Australian floetrol which I have to import. I agree these designs would be awesome on clothing. Being able to retain the vibrancy is a challenge but with hi res images and the right printer may be possible. Thanks so much Jo! 🤗💜
Hi Jodi! Thanks for this awesome tutorial! You strike me as having a very analytic mind, so was wondering if you have done an analysis on the function of all there chemicals, and what they do? Basically the science of what they do. It might be too involved but it is easy to get confused as a paint pouring wannabe. There definitely is a science to which properties need to be added in. TH-cam artists all seem to use different recipes of the same chemicals, so you have gone above and beyond explaining this for the bloom which you have perfected. Thanks again for an awesome presentation! Susi from Florida 🥰
Hi Susi! You’re very welcome! I do have a somewhat analytical mind, in a prior life I was an IT Analyst, but I always hated science in school 😂😂 .. it’s starting to fascinate me now though but I think actually analyzing chemical compounds would make my head spin. I do love figuring it out trial & error though for sure! 😃😃😃💜💜💜
Thank you for taking into consideration that everyone doesn’t have the same resources to choose from nor the same funds available. Also, the measurement statement not to mix by weight was so helpful because on other types of pouring I’ve seen lots of videos that say mix by weight. Of course there are others that say, just eye ball it. That is scary to me! My judgment is not fail proof, nor are all of my containers all the same. So many variables for various techniques. So, all information distinctions are great. Thanks.
You’re very welcome Marlynda and thank you for the feedback! I want everyone to bloom successfully no matter what resources or budget! If you ever have any specific questions please let me know I’m happy to help ☺️💜
Thanks for the basic info and yes I'm in Thailand and can't get the materials needed. I can get clours but not the pour paint or varnishes. But I'm having fun exploring
You’re welcome Norman! If you can get your hands on Australian floetrol for the cell activator, I’m finding it works with just about any PM (traditional or house paint/varnish) to make cells the more I test. The other thing I haven’t tested yet but hear it works is Amsterdam paint mixed with water for cell activator works with different PMs too. Some ideas for your exploration ☺️ have fun!! 🌺
@@ThePaintedDreamer yes just ordered 3 tubes on amsterdam titanium white for cell ...but getting order her is difficult the charge me 30% duty on anything that not coming from China directly. And with capillary action the cell actuator will be layered into the colours as it moves by .by the way on gravity .I'm calling it the Cc cup or maybe the triple C pour.or or .capillary cup creation .if it work you can experiment 😉
This was such a comprehensive tutorial!!, as you well know, I am a total novice at this method, you even answer one question by me looking at other people’s questions. I do, though, have another. Why do you use Infinity and Bear at the same time ?. Thank you so much ❤️
Thanks so much Consuelo! To answer your question I have love/hate with the Behr. It is the clearest untinted paint ever however it is hard to work with by itself so I add a little bit of in to thicken paints up and use it in combo with other bases to get the benefit of it. You absolutely don’t have to use it. I really like the Infinity by itself but if my paints are a bit thin I’ll add in a little Behr to thicken them up. 😊
Hi, Mrs. Miyagi.. it's me yet again, Daniel Son. Lol!! I finally got my AUS Floetrol and was curious if you had a video on that cell activator recipe? I've been using your US floetrol/amsterdam one. Thanks for your time as always!!
Hi Daniel Son .. hehee .. I think I mixed up the Aussie floetrol in a video mixing up the Dutch boy PM, video #12 at the beginning to give you a visual. But basically it’s 4 parts floetrol, 1 part paints I usually do tablespoons so 4 TBSP floetrol, 1 TBSP paint, mix well! 😃🌺
@@ThePaintedDreamer thaaaanks.. just realized I actually watched half of that video already. Guess I need to watch it over and in it's entirety. Haven't used the dutchboy yet. Been using your hgtv infinity PM and the behr PM. Excited to try my Australian Floetrol (the magic juice, I think you called it lol). 😊
@@smugoverdose Sure thing! The Dutch Boy was the first untinted paint base I discovered for this technique and I think will always be my favorite but it's only available at Menards which is regional so I don't use it a lot on camera anymore. The Infinity is my next favorite and I like adding the behr to thicken it up and also adds a nice shine ... have fun with that magic sauce and yes, it is magic!! :D
@@ThePaintedDreamer yes unfortunately there aren't any of those in Louisiana... but... Michigan is like my second home and they do have them there so if I ever get the chance I will try to grab a can or 5 lol. Thanks again for ALL your time!! Silly question: can you do these techniques with very cheap paint like Apple Barrel? Just curious. I have paint that ranges from very cheap to rather expensive. Who would want to right? I just wonder if you ever tried.
@@smugoverdose You're welcome! I have collected some craft and dollar store paints I plan to test myself so I haven't really used yet but they should work especially if you use them in combination with other paints but if you use just cheap paints, I mean they should work but the quality may not be there or if you get any weird paint separation it may be why but I'm not for certain, if you have them, I say give them a go! :D
I would use a fluid white paint if you are going to mix your own background paint so it doesn’t get too thick on you. Just start adding until you get the consistency you want, a lot of it is trial and error
You are a Rockstar!! :) when I go to the store I always get them to open the can, they think I am nuts but oh well lol!! I see so many deep base untinted that have so much white in them, one I bought (Behr)it made my powdered pigments kind of pastel :( I noticed the Valspar was also really white.
I live in UK the Sherwin Williams Infinity is not available here. Do you know of another brand that I am able to get here in UK. Thank you so much for your tutorials, mixing paints is mind boggling, so need to get it right. You are amazing and ever so helpful. Thank you. X
You’re very welcome Raine, I’m so glad I can help! If you follow Erica Hughes here on TH-cam she’s in Ireland and I’ve see her use, in place of the Sherwin Williams Infinity I use, the Valspar V700 Interior Wood & Metal Gloss Base c untinted house paint. Also I believe the pillow she uses is the Valspar Brilliant White in Silk. I hope this helps!! 🤗💜
Love all of your knowledge and thank you for sharing. This was very helpful. I will try your techniques. May help my issue. My question is on your base/pillow paint.? What do you add to the base house paint if anything? My pillow seems to seep through and cause white spots which is annoying.
You’re welcome Denise, thank you 🤗. I don’t add anything to my pillow paint I use it straight from the can. If your other paints that go on top of your pillow are too thin your pillow may seep through easier, try thickening them up a bit 🤗
Is semi-gloss Polycrylic ok? I bought that before watching the millions of videos I’ve watched and before the courses I’ve purchased. I have a gallon. And do I have to use Jo Sonja? I have Minwax pre-stain wood conditioner, both kinds.
You don’t have to use jo sonja no you can use other varnishes as long as they are water based polyurethane. You want gloss but if you have a gallon of the Minwax poly semigloss I say give it a try see if it works out 😊. The Minwax Prestain wood conditioner would be for your cell activator if you want to use it in your US floetrol. 💜
Thank you for sharing. Have you ever tried using elmers glue all & water as you paint mix? I have Asthma and try avoiding toxic chemicals ...if you have can do you have a mixing video on it?
You’re welcome Samantha 😊, I totally get wanting to use more non toxic ingredients for your asthma. I don’t have alot of experience with glueall & water myself for a pouring medium but I’m adding it to my list to experiment with and we’ll see what comes of it. In the meantime, I know a few other artists here on TH-cam who have used this with their flip cups and I believe have mixing videos on their channel or at least the recipe. Karen from Waterfall Acrylics and also Julie Cutts over at Pouring Your Heart Out. Hope this helps! 💜
You’re welcome Sandy, the cell activator is the Australian floetrol mixed with paint. Pictures of everything used in each video are at the beginning (or end in my newer videos) as well as detailed below in the description box below each video 😊
If you can use Behr would you use semi gloss white with deep base ? Hi gloss ..I got this with the gloss polyurethane. The Behr white was to thin so it ate up my painting,so I have tried serval base paint. But get those speks Thank you I agree with you semi gloss white is good I do like hi gloss deep base..Can we thick up while with deep base ? I use the polyurethane gloss it seems fine I am having a issue with the base paint.. Next one infinity or valspar .. Jodie you are amazing thank you for everything ♥️
The only behr I experimented with was the untinted deep base 8300, I’ve never used it white so I can’t comment on how it reacts. If you need to thicken up your pillow paint leave the lid off the can for a day or two, I’ve not added anything to it to thicken it up so I can’t recommend any products to help with that 🤗
Haha back again yrs later cuz my 3300 Behr is just so think in my cool basement so im using Jo Sonya w a bit of minwax or Varathane. But my ratios are backwards, so to get the consistency with tube paints I had to do 1 part Berh base paint 3300 to 2.5 parts of the gloss varnish and annoyingly its not a matte but a semi. I have a felling as you the fam maybe the dog are on the Road having a great time. I hope so. My summer was no painting loads of scary stuff. I have to force myself. It can really hurt. But I have all your amazing resources to study again....❤ its bad for me to take breaks. I cant wait till you're ba k. I have been subscribed for yrs but I am not seeing videos.
Hi, I live in Ecuador and I can’t find anything to make cells happen and your cell paintings are so beautiful! I can’t find silicone oil either! But I was thinking maybe essencial oils might work, what do you think??
Hi Dianne, essential oils aren’t the same as silicone oil, some hair oil products have silicone or dimethicone (which is a type of silicone oil) that may work but you would need to experiment as I don’t know the brands you have there 😊
Jodi is the clearest, most informative, and talented artist out there.

Thanks so much Janice! I’d love to hear how you like the Infinity compared with the OG HGTV. I never did use it so I have nothing to compare it to. Have fun!! 😃😃💜
I'm binging on your videos tonight..... So very informative... Thank you so much ❤️

Hi Jodi. Thanks for. Sharing
You’re so welcome, Timothy, I’m so happy to hear they have helped! Thank you so much! 🤗🌺

Great tutorial! Very informative and detailed video. Thank you Jodie 👌👍👍👍
Absolutely! Thanks so much Maria! 🥰
Great job. For sure a difference between the two with the pigments and iridescent one.
Thanks Sherry! That behr is something else but the infinity alone, the pigments dry really sparkly too .. I’m still trying to corral that Behr 🤣

Now this is what I've been waiting for I just came across your video and you just started explaining things about if you cannot receive these products where you live...

This is awesome thank you so much. Really appreciate you doing this.
You’re very welcome 🤗🌺
@@kimberlyaltman5535 I hope the Infinity/JS work out for you, it’s my new favorite! It also works amazing with the Minwax One Coat! Have fun! 🥰
THANK YOU FOR THE KNOWLEDGE
I am glad you clarified the base paint options, because I was confused about which one was the most desirable to utilize.
There are many that can work, I like to give options as not everything is available to all or they are different price points so it nice to have options 🤗💜🌺
@@ThePaintedDreamer Not only did you provide us with a lot of information, but you were very clear and concise, which I really appreciated. Hi Jodie! Thanks so much!! 🥰🥰
Thank you for the wonderful information
You’re very welcome! 🤗💜💜
Thank you so much, extremely helpful!
You’re welcome Bonnie 💜
The lowest or the highest we have to choose for the base paint
@@liletteautrey8481 The first in the series (ABC or 123 etc) would be for your pillow paint as that will have the most titanium in it. It will usually also say white on the can. For your untinted base for your pouring mediumyou want the last in the series as that will have the least amount of titanium in it and will be the clearest.
Me podrías decir que usas de activador celular?
Aquí en Uruguay no hay Floeterol.

Hi Herma 😃👋🏻 You’re very welcome and I’m glad to hear you’ve been able to find a few things to experiment with! 💜💜
Great video....thanks,

I appreciate letting us know a cheaper way to use for all different mediums!❤️
You're amazing. Thank you so much!
You’re very welcome Beverly I’m so glad I can help 🤗💜

Thank you for the informative video. Can you tell me how you mix the untinted base if you want it to come out as a white base for background?
I would use a fluid white paint if you are going to mix your own background paint so it doesn’t get too thick on you. Just start adding until you get the consistency you want, a lot of it is trial and error
You are a Rockstar!! :) when I go to the store I always get them to open the can, they think I am nuts but oh well lol!! I see so many deep base untinted that have so much white in them, one I bought (Behr)it made my powdered pigments kind of pastel :( I noticed the Valspar was also really white.
I’m the opposite haha! I grab my can and go because they always want to take it and shake it for me 😂
I love these testing videos of yours!
Aww thanks Linda!! My head spins sometimes with this stuff because I have all these ideas and want to do everything now haha!
I live in UK the Sherwin Williams Infinity is not available here. Do you know of another brand that I am able to get here in UK.
Thank you so much for your tutorials, mixing paints is mind boggling, so need to get it right.

@@ThePaintedDreamer thank you. Very helpful

I don’t have alot of experience with glueall & water myself for a pouring medium but I’m adding it to my list to experiment with and we’ll see what comes of it.
If you need to thicken up your pillow paint leave the lid off the can for a day or two, I’ve not added anything to it to thicken it up so I can’t recommend any products to help with that 🤗
@@ThePaintedDreamer great idea why I didn't think about just leaving the kid off so simple.. Also I am going to try the Gilten and see how that goes
Haha back again yrs later cuz my 3300 Behr is just so think in my cool basement so im using Jo Sonya w a bit of minwax or Varathane.
