    Yes you are so right about the environment. I live alone and keep it pretty clean but if there is one thing in my cupboard or freezer it haunts me until I eat it then I can relax again. I stopped bringing unclean things into my home.

      It makes me feel SO validated to hear you say how just a little flour or fat will trigger food addicts to completely go off the rails. For my whole life, like you, I felt like it was my fault that I couldn't stop binging on those foods. Even with a little bit of oil, I absolutely just CANNOT STOP eating. Fat free vegan whole food is the only way of eating that actually satiates me with a normal amount of food. It's such a relief to have learned all this from you and also Dr. McDougall. I do still struggle with situations where I'm not in control of my food, like when I'm traveling or if I'm out running errands and find myself starving -- in those situations I'm still learning what to eat and be prepared etc. but I'm getting better over time, it's a process. Thanks again for everything, just love your awesome humor, spirit and amazing info!

    I love your work, AJ! Glad you exist and that you do these weight loss wednesdays. They help motivate me to stay on the wagon. You mentioned not to worry about being too thin if you are over 16 BMI. How do you know that? The normal scale says you need to be minimum 18.5.
    I had a friend who is a doctor who treats cancer patients who told me I am underweight (I am around 17.8-18 BMI) and that I will end up having cardiac arrest. I told her I am not a cancer patient, I am not thin because of chemo, I am thin because I eat healthy and I do not restrict quantity, only avoid processed food. She said it doesn't matter, irrespective of how you got thin, if you get too thin you could get cardiac arrest and that I am too extreme, I should eat some semi processed food to gain weight and get therapy for my triggers.
    I tried to explain to her everything I learned from you and Doug Lisle that we are all as humans designed to seek out the most calorie dense food, it isn't something wrong with me and I just control my environment so I don't go crazy from cravings, I want the stable brain and you know, I have always been skinny but had a problem of a very large belly and even when I am 100 percent compliant, after food my belly is huge, but it's even bigger when I eat processed food. At least when I am compliant I can sometimes wake up in the morning with a flat belly and have a body shape I like for a few hours until I am hungry and start eating. Plus I prefer having the calm stable brain and not thinking about junk food all the time. Also my digestion is not so good when I am not compliant.
    So she said I am wrong and I need psycho therapy for my cravings, lots of people eat these foods without digestion problems so I should go to a GI doctor... in other words she said I am crazy to try and live this way, that I should fix myself so I can live like everyone else.
    Another thing is, I kind of feel like the external part is not really a good motivator for me, because like I said, most of the time my belly is big compared to the rest of my body, gaining weight only makes it worse so that isn't an option... if I try to go out on an empty stomach then that can make me vulnerable to eating junk food outside the house, so I rarely if ever get to share the external results I have. On the other hand, if I try to go out with a full stomach, I can sometimes find myself making an excuse to myself "oh, I have this huge belly anyway, might as well eat some junk food".
    You see, it really feels like I have to limit myself socially because whenever I go out and am social with people they bring junk food, or where I am there is junk food, or they want to go out to a restaurant or bar so I either go home and skip the social event to stay clean or I go with them and then it's a monumental mental effort to stay compliant.
    I try to tell myself I want to be healthy and have a calm stable brain which I do when I am at home and have as much healthy food as I want, but in those instances that I can't control my environment because I am outside the house that can be hard and I find myself fighting with myself between the part that wants to be healthy and the part that says "what's the point?" because you know, either way most of my food will be compliant and my brain can always argue with me that just a bit won't hurt and maybe it won't but it's hard to keep it at just a bit.
    Obviously I am 98-99 percent compliant or I wouldn't weigh this much for my height, and it's getting a bit easier the more I do it, but I am always looking for that calm stable brain and now the challenge is how do I have it outside the house, not just at home... what's the point of eating healthy if you're a shut in? Almost no one eats the way I do. Vegans I know eat lots of junk food or they are doing 801010 fruitarian and I don't fit in either of these niches. I live in Israel and tried making a whole plant foods social group but literally no one in Israel is going for this way of eating, I am alone in this.

      I never said 16. I would have a consult with one of the TrueNorth medical doctors to discuss your weight and health. I am not a doctor so I cannot say if you are too thin or not.

    "A calm, stable mind". That hit me when you said that. Very profound. Really made me think about and realize the food-brain connection. I definitely notice a difference in my brain when I eat more strict, and then at times, not so strict. The scary thing is that when one's brain is affected adversely by the food, it's hard for one to get themselves out of that 'mess' with their own messed up brain. But it can be done (with difficulty) by remembering to go back to the basics.

    I️ honestly just wash my potatoes, cut them up however I️ want at that moment & toss them in the air fryer. Crunchy & delicious every time! When they over lap in the air fryer I️ stop the air fryer after 5-10 minutes & shake it & they’ve always all been cooked on the inside & crunchy on the outside.

      What food are you eating though? If you follow AJs instructions like eating at least 2 lbs of non starchy veg a day, low fat, etc you won't have to restrict. And if you restrict it will come back and bite you because it will make you binge. Restricting never works long term

    • @ruthruthless

      I imagine that basically any fresh fruits (not dried), fresh vegetables, whole legumes and whole intact grains (not bread) are low enough calorie density to be left of the red line. If you blend them though, that will increase the calorie density.

    I was starting to have weight loss Wednesday withdrawals.
    Has anyone got an opinion on Dr. Morse? I've been watching his videos. I'm a bit confused by the fact that he seems very experienced, and he's against starches. Fructose doesn't cause an insulin response, so it's pretty logical where he's coming from. Just wondering if anyone can add their thoughts.

    • @SafiarTaliaferro
      @SafiarTaliaferro 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G Kuljian Dr. Morse is the ish! You know he's into the healing side. Bring people back from dis-ease. Adrenals, kidneys, lymph, berries, melons, herbs etc. And it's awesome! Chef AJ specifically is dealing with food addictions, eating disorders, weight loss, and helping people to maintain a vegan/whole food lifestyle, sos/sofa free.

    • @Gkuljian
      @Gkuljian 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Safiar Herron Oh, thanks for the perspective! It's the fact that McDougall and associates are primarily starch. That's where I get confused. Why aren't they more fruit, I wonder. I decided to go completely fruit, and it's really nice. It's all good. Just want to aim in the direction of the truth.

    • @ruthruthless
      @ruthruthless 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a lot more expensive to try and live on fruit alone because you need to eat a lot more food to get enough calories and be satiated. For some people though getting to eat even more food is a good thing, it allows them to feel like they are binging without getting too many calories. Other people don't like eating all day. I tried doing raw days and I go crazy having to snack all day and still not feel full. I also have a limited budget so if I don't eat enough starches I will starve and end up binging on junk food which will be even more expensive.
      If it works for you, go for it. Me personally, I snack on lots of raw fruits and veggies for the first half of my day, then I fill up on starches + veggies + a fruit dessert in the evening. Each person should find what works for them. As long as you are eating enough calories of whole plant foods, and your program is one you can stick to, you do you.
      Any plan that avoids meat, dairy, eggs, fish and processed food in favor of any of the whole plant foods will be way better than what 99 percent of the western world is eating. Whether raw fruitarian is superior to having starch, I don't think there is any scientific basis for that.

    • @Gkuljian
      @Gkuljian 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ruth Ruthless I think we're on the same wavelength. I spent a ton on fruit for my first round. I was actually embarrassed at checkout because people were looking at me. 4 watermelons, bags of kiwis, cantaloupes. I've never bought 6 bags of groceries before. But I'm loving it. I love grabbing something to eat all day long. Watching Durianrider's early videos of what he and his girlfriend ate. She was eating countertops full of fruit in one day that I couldn't get down if I tried. And I can eat.
      The one thing that like you said isn't clear to me yet is whether the difference in digestion between the simple fructose sugars of fruits, and the complex carbs of vegetables make enough difference to avoid the veggies. I do know I am already yearning for my savory veggie meals, with potatoes and nutritional yeast and things.
      I'll find out if I'm getting enough carbs when I get back on my bike again. I'm in the last stages of years of mobility work, and staying away from hard workouts during health recovery. It's all good. I want an air fryer. Too many tasty meals to play around with. Oh my fruit grocery bill was scary high. There's no way I'm going to stick with just fruits.

    • @ruthruthless
      @ruthruthless 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People don't realize that small people eat big food and big people eat small food! That's calorie density for you.
      I know of no reason to avoid starches due to digestion. Most beans other than lentils should be left in water before being cooked, but otherwise, cook and eat any starch you want. I know of no scientific basis to avoid them, and legumes especially are associated with health and longevity. Perhaps if you grew your own produce like that black woman who looks freakishly young for her advanced age, by avoiding pesticides you could look as young as she does when she reaches her age... but maybe it's not because of the food being raw, but just because she grows it herself pesticide free. You might be able to reproduce her results growing starches yourself.
      In any case, we are talking about tweaking the last 1%, as long as you eat whole plant foods whether raw or cooked and avoid animal based foods and processed foods, you should be doing very, very well.
