Wow the views and scenery are breathtaking, and your chickens are just so adorable! Lol and how the birds ate up the birdseed so fast. So funny and cute. Thank you for the soothing moment! Wishing you a blessed Holiday Season 💞🥰❤️ Come by and say hello one of these days, I'd love to show you our latest 😊❤️
This makes me kinda miss the snow back when we lived in Minnesota. It's fun watching the journey of learning how to take care of chickens. Those bluejays are relentless. Would be fun to see if it's possible to catch on video how they're getting in there.
Oh man! These girls were molting when we got them. There are short hours but they are laying every second or third day now. Hopefully yours start again!
Hopefully the snow doesn't start building up on the netting on top as it would weigh it down and possibly break it. You may need a few supports across the top. This was a really fun video to watch btw! good work!
Thank you!! Dominic was able to secure the netting and the jay can't get in anymore fortunately. We have had a few big dumpings of snow, Dominc cleared it off of the top before letting them out so far. He mentioned the other day he is getting something else for the top of the run for this purpose actually. The never ever ending chicken coop build lol.
They were getting in through the top! It's fixed now and they have not been getting in, thankfully! I think we will be leaving the feed in the coop for the winter.
We had an issue with squirrels constantly getting in with our one rooster and his two girlfriends. The majority of our chickens and ducks are still not laying. We have about 40 ducks and abut 30 chickens and for the last few weeks we are lucky if we get 3 duck eggs a day. (No chicken at all) Have you ever heard of the technique of using salt to keep your chickens water from freezing? BTW- the heated water hose we bought for our chickens is working great! Wish we invested in this years ago!
I haven't heard of using salt! That's interesting and I will look into it. I didn't know heated hoses were a thing. Thanks so much!! Wow that's surprising! We have been doing pretty good with the eggs then. That's a lot of freeloaders you have, get to work ladies! There is one squirrel who comes around sometimes to the compost pile but I haven't seen him lately. Dominic did something to the top of the run and so far it seems like the blue Jays can't get in. Hopefully it lasts!
@@ODriscolls Salt Water Float - This one is nearly free and easy! Put 1/4 cup salt in a 20 oz plastic water bottle, fill to the top with water. Float this salt water bottle inside your waterer. Salt water has a much lower freezing point (it has to get really cold for a really long time for ocean inlets to freeze). Floating this bottle in your water will slow the freezing process of the water around it. Much like the ping pong ball option from above, as the bottle moves about in the water, it will stop ice from forming and because the salt water isn’t freezing as fast it won’t lower the temp of the drinking water. I have used this option in a pinch when my electric heater base went down, and it really does extend the amount of time before the water freezes over.
What do you do in the winter...does the coupe have to be heated....and will you be eating the chickens when they stop laying eggs...and who will kill them if your eating them?
Hello! The coop needs to stay dry but doesn't have to be heated. These chickens are just for eggs and they will just stick around with us after they lay. We do plan to raise chickens for meat in the future but that will look a little different. I am not sure if we will process them ourselves or have someone else help. It will depend on the services available and the cost I think. Eventually we want to process them ourselves. Not these chickens though, they'll live their lives in the yard.
Nice thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
So funny you are talking to birds...!! :D And yeah, winter time indeed!!!
These birds are driving me crazy!! 😂😂

I think it's from the roof. We need to get the roof more secure. I bet I could throw a gopro up there
Ornery blue jay 😜
Oooh me nerves! Those blue Jays got me drove
I dont envy you all the worry about the chickens. Like toddlers. Then the Bluejays on top of it. At least you handle it with a positive attitude 🙂.
I think we have the blue Jays sorted out. I wonder what the next crisis will be 😂😂
"Blue Jay get out!" 😆
At least you're getting eggs! Our ladies are molting & shorter daylight hours has their production at zero 🤦♂️

@@ODriscolls lol our co-op has been under construction for two years. If you put wood chips, straw or leaves on the snow they will venture out..
id just leave the feed in the coop..They will go in and out all day to eat..How the heck are the blue jays getting in there?

Those blue jays are eating you out of house and home 😂
They are very demanding

Ours come out if they like...some only for a short while... we just let them decide 🤷🏼♀️
I have to come to terms with this. They are going to do what they are going to do.

Bawk Bawk
You should get a second feeder and put it outside, so they have a choice.
I'm kind of in shock with myself that this never crossed my mind. Thanks so much! I will get one before the next snow hits. ❄
Chickens, do, however hate snow! Put hay and a layer of sand on the ground
Oh that's a good idea!! Thanks!!
