I agree! I'm a Canadian homesteader in Ontario. American channels have inspired a desire in me to intensively graise organic sheep. That can't be done here in 2 feet of snow during our long winter. Can sheep even survive -20°C outdoors for days? I haven't found anyone in canada yet who does this. Our gardening season is so much shorter too. Our free range chickens do well though as long as I dig out an area for them. And homesteading groups are hard to find. I'm so glad I found your channel. Good luck!
I’ll get a small flock of sheep eventually, I’m sure they can do well in the cold but they most likely need some kind of barn to keep them protected from the elements. I am a bit jealous when I see southern US channels building or gardening in what we call winter up here. But I also really enjoy the 4 seasons (3 mostly 😂) I appreciate your comment, see you around. You got that right! Homesteading in Canada 🇨🇦 is so much different from homesteading in a subtropical or tropical climate, for sure. What I’ve learned living in a hot climate, is you can never escape the heat when it’s hot and humid. It’s brutal. I need several cold showers/day. I’ve learned, I’d much rather wear extra clothes and be comfortable. I sure miss Canada 🇨🇦. Chad you are so right. Homesteading opens our eyes to so much. It really is a wonderful way of life. The closest to homesteading I’ve come is planting my own food forest and harvesting fruit and vegetables all year.

Hi Chad, We are new subscribers from Tasmania, My Daughter and I love your personality. Your animal enclosures are are top quality and very inventive. We think the pigs and bunny rabbits need more straw to bed down with. We also were wondering if you live on the farm. Kind Regards Kelli and Christine Senden.
All good questions. Happy to know we are reaching all the way to Tasmania. Our house is 20 mins away, we bought this old hobby farm to develop it into our forever homestead but that 107 yr old farmhouse is not for us, it’s too small, not efficient and we’ve worked too hard in our lives to downgrade. But we will eventually sell our home and build one on the property somewhere. we also know the farm will be hard to make profit, it’s just for our lifestyle. But we said the farmhouse wouldn’t be used so why not transform this place into a farm stay & experience. Of course we needed some animals first to attract families to want to stay here. That’s also one of the reasons I built all the animal houses to be interactive so families with kids could actually go in and see or pet the animals or collect the eggs etc. and all what we’re doing is bringing us a step closer to self reliance at the same time, knowing some of our food is chemical free and healthy is important too. We haven’t bought eggs or chicken meat for two years but cause we raise it ourselves. Of course my Darlin wanted a nice garden too for tons of veggies. Anyways I could ramble on for hours, welcome to the farm. Chad & the gang.
Haha nope I’ve never thought of bison. You never know. We have 90 acres and have plenty of area for future paddocks. I’d need to up my game with a huge animal like that eh 😆 🦬 Never say never right. 🍻
WOW .. just stumbled on your channel, I love this kind of living but it’s my dream to live the way u guys does, it’s much be expensive for 90acres of land … nature and planting stuff is my life.. right now I have so much growing indoors, from ginger to lettuce peppers 🌶️ herbs, avocado 🥑 and pineapple here in Toronto .. lol 😂… so imagine if I I had just 2 acres.. I’m here in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦… we’ll done ✅ Dude.
I was born and raised in Toronto at Don Mills and sheppard area. You just do what u can do, every little bit helps. 10 years ago we were dreaming of farmlife, now look at us. And showcasing it to the world on the Tube. Who knew 🍻

New sub from Southeast Texas. I’m going to check out the Air B&B. Looks like a place o would love to bring my grandkids or even come by myself. We definitely have our own version of beauty here. Not the beautiful autumn colors though or the snow. It’s rare to have freezing weather here. Past two years we have had some hard freezes but nothing that lasts. Beautiful place and thanks for sharing🙏🏼❤️
Great video Chad, always learning something new from you. It took a lot of courage to start a venture like this, you and your wife are so brave !!! Allergic to those kitties 🐈⬛🐈 yet there you are rubbin up against them ☺ now that's love ❤. I came across duck eggs at my grocery store a few months ago but I'm actually afraid to try them ~ any tips ?
Honestly I think my body is adapting a bit to the cats 🐈⬛ if the scratch me it’ll break out in hives and in an enclosed area like in the house I get asthma but outdoors on the farm it’s not that bad. Duck eggs eh, gotta just take a leap of faith…scramble one and if you don’t like it use the rest in baking. Makes anything baked much better cause it’s a richer egg. My Darlin scramble them with green onion and I put ketchup on it.
You nailed it on the stores and products available!! Just trying to buy a water trough or a gate is crazy!!! We usually have to order and wait or travel for hours to pick something up. We had to come back to Ontario to get a cattle crush.
Right! I’m sure there are some less populated areas in the US too but I’ve given so much business to Amazon just for the convenience even though I’d rather support a local shop. Hope u guys aren’t snowed in over there 🍻

You would hate homesteading in Florida or Texas. They BOIL in the summer. I’m north of Austin Tx and our temps from May - October is normally (all Fahrenheit) 100+ and feels like 110-115. Most June-September temps are 105 minimum. I’ve seen you say you are cooking when temps of what is 80-95 degrees (for us). I am dying to move to a northern state where I can have more tolerable summers and actually see all 4 seasons as here we pretty much go from summer to wet winter/fall like weather. I experienced 80-85 degrees one Christmas morning and decided this isn’t the place for me and my family anymore.
Maybe you could start your own homestead group for Canada? When Joel Salatin and Justin Rhodes started in the states I don't think too many others were doing it. You are pretty spread out in Canada but maybe some in the states could come across too.
Nice, not far from here at all. I was born n raised in TO at Don mills & sheppard, close to Fairview Mall. Gotta say I don’t miss the city at all 😆 🍻 ✌️

Hi thanks for the video, you are quite funny 😄 I live in Arnprior Ontario and wanted to get some ideas and pointers from you if you don’t mind. We have a small property in Galetta (near Arnprior) but my dream is to have a small hobby farm so I can have a few livestock,. We recently got a call from the City of Ottawa to get rid of our chickens, I have 13 hens now just started laying, a neighbour called it in😢 Anyway we knew the risks , we are giving our chickens to a friend and we’ll be able to get some eggs once in awhile 😊 All this to say I would love to chat with you to ask you a few questions about how to go about homesteading. Let me know if you would Agree Thank you
I live in London Ontario. And I'm looking for a homestead property the challenge I'm finding is cost. I look in Michigan and it's 110k for 10 acres and a 3 bedroom house. Ontario I feel like it's 300k but I'm determined I'll find my perfect place.
it's tough especially close to any decent sized city. gotta save up big or buy far away. gotta go where the job is though too. and the longer you wait values go up. Keep saving, keep looking/planning and have patience. we were where you are now 10 years ago.
Hi Chad, I live down near niagara and have always wanted to visit the farm! How would i find you guys through airbnb? Tried searching near horseshoe valley but couldn’t find any listings that resembled your farm..
Well that would be cool. Try searching in Oro-Medonte for “Private Farmhouse Nestled on 90 Acres” Lots of details and photos in the listing. You can always email if u have any questions.
@@HiddenSpringFarm ohh okay sorry as my dad-MOE worked for that company and he said a guys name CHAD .. have a farm with chickens/egg/ducks… that’s used to work with him at that company .. sorry 🙏🇨🇦
We might not have Tractor Supply stores here in Canada, but we do have Farmer's Co-op and Farm supply stores that sell pretty much anything you need, there is also Brice's which sells Amish furniture. You make it sound like homesteaders need to order everything in from the US which isn't true! Canada is a lot harder to do homesteading in, land is expensive, building permits are expensive, to put in a new house is at least 500k (not including land) here in Ontario, shorter growing season and lots of regulations. You will not find a few acres of buildable land for 10k here and any seller holding the mortgage will charge around 9% interest. I will admit there are somethings that are much cheaper to buy in the US due to economies of scale and metal products are still cheaper in the US since the trade war, like Cattle panels. If you want cheap land you need to live in a remote sparsely populated area, but you may find the cost of everything high due to the cost of shipping.
Someone else asked that a while back. I’ve inspected them extensively and have not seen any. They do scratch a lot but I’m just chalking it up to normal behaviour. Plus it’s winter not sure how common lice would be in the freezing temps. There could also be a different issue that I don’t know about too so I’ll keep an eye on them.

Hi Chad, We are new subscribers from Tasmania, My Daughter and I love your personality. Your animal enclosures are are top quality and very inventive.
We think the pigs and bunny rabbits need more straw to bed down with. We also were wondering if you live on the farm.
Kind Regards
Kelli and Christine Senden.
Love your kitties!
Yeah they're pretty awesome and are a huge part of the farm.
you ever think of adding some byson to your farm? how many acers do you own?
Haha nope I’ve never thought of bison. You never know. We have 90 acres and have plenty of area for future paddocks. I’d need to up my game with a huge animal like that eh 😆 🦬 Never say never right. 🍻
great content God Bless
Thanks so much 🙏
WOW .. just stumbled on your channel, I love this kind of living but it’s my dream to live the way u guys does, it’s much be expensive for 90acres of land … nature and planting stuff is my life.. right now I have so much growing indoors, from ginger to lettuce peppers 🌶️ herbs, avocado 🥑 and pineapple here in Toronto .. lol 😂… so imagine if I I had just 2 acres..
Who knew 🍻
@@HiddenSpringFarm thanks so much for your creative ideas on farmstead 🙏🇨🇦
No better place on this planet to live... Canadian Living is the BEST!!! stay tuned to my future trail blazing lifestyle on Tiny Homes in Nature OFF grid ✌
Right on!!!
Welcome aboard! Good to know lots of Texans are watching. Right on!
Also From Kurdistan! may be only me! near Iraq
Lilyyyy! Bobbyyyyy! Ahahahaha I almost choke on my spagetti!
@@HiddenSpringFarm 😃 Great idea, thanks 👍
You nailed it on the stores and products available!! Just trying to buy a water trough or a gate is crazy!!! We usually have to order and wait or travel for hours to pick something up. We had to come back to Ontario to get a cattle crush.
Right! I’m sure there are some less populated areas in the US too but I’ve given so much business to Amazon just for the convenience even though I’d rather support a local shop. Hope u guys aren’t snowed in over there 🍻
@@HiddenSpringFarm I hear you on that!! Been lucky with the snow so far!
Chad ,Cindy again .hello to your wife .I spent 2 years in Guam.! Great love for the Filipinas..!! Ps we have good farm stores Cenex and Westland seed and Murdocks. Shipping tho!! Ouch
Lots of Filipinos in Guam eh.
I'm thinking of starting this. I'm just not sure where and how
You would hate homesteading in Florida or Texas.
You never know what the future holds. Would be cool too to bring everyone together. 😊
I just found your channel i live in tronto Ontario i have friends in midland Ontario
I dream of homesteaing
Nice, not far from here at all. I was born n raised in TO at Don mills & sheppard, close to Fairview Mall. Gotta say I don’t miss the city at all 😆 🍻 ✌️
How did you train the cats to being in the barn at night.
Wow I'm so glad I found your ch
Nice, welcome to the farm. Where u from Dave? See u around eh.
Hey we are out here in Alberta Canada it's been so hard trying to find somebody that's actually doing this in Canada I'm so glad I stumbled onto your Channel hopefully we can start our journey to homesteading within the next year.
@@getin6 plan it out, take your time. Good for you though. Sometimes I think back and kick myself for not realizing I was born to do this earlier in my life. Fresh air, no noise, less people, nature. wicked awesome, good luck to u.
I think the biggest thing for me is finding land at a good price that I can build and actually knowing how much acres of land I need to do a proper Homestead I think I can start off with probably 3 to 5?
Would love to be around more like-minded people for knowledge and community
Hi thanks for the video, you are quite funny 😄
I live in Arnprior Ontario and wanted to get some ideas and pointers from you if you don’t mind. We have a small property in Galetta (near Arnprior) but my dream is to have a small hobby farm so I can have a few livestock,. We recently got a call from the City of Ottawa to get rid of our chickens, I have 13 hens now just started laying, a neighbour called it in😢
Anyway we knew the risks , we are giving our chickens to a friend and we’ll be able to get some eggs once in awhile 😊
All this to say I would love to chat with you to ask you a few questions about how to go about homesteading.
Let me know if you would Agree
Thank you
I live in London Ontario.
New Zealand here
😎
I'd like to visit your farm someday, but i need transatlantic flight for it :)))) i like your videos so much btw
Maybe one day! But that's pretty far. Where r u from UK? Europe?
What is the date of this post?
Hi Chad, I live down near niagara and have always wanted to visit the farm! How would i find you guys through airbnb? Tried searching near horseshoe valley but couldn’t find any listings that resembled your farm..
Well that would be cool. Try searching in Oro-Medonte for “Private Farmhouse Nestled on 90 Acres” Lots of details and photos in the listing. You can always email if u have any questions.
Rodents are drawn to any leftover food!
Hey Chad, do u used to work with Gregory signs..?
Nope never heard of em.
Wish you can say the temp inF°?
Haha I usually put it up on the screen 😂 must have missed it on this one.
B C Canada , and small Farming now
Very nice. Best of luck out west.
Are you still homesteading?
Still at it, just did some blackberries in today’s episode.
Have the pigs got lice? They’re scratching a lot
@@HiddenSpringFarm not sure of that clip is in winter but I just had a thought I have itchier slightly drier skin in winter so could be the season
Google says they have normally dry itchy skin, I learned something today!
@@colezy14 that makes sense, probably why pigs love to get covered in mud.
Like gold shaw farm 😂😂😂😂😂
Don’t assume that all of the US is like what you are picturing it to be. It’s not.
Of course not, US is so big too for sure there are lots of less populated areas eh. It’s just generalizing 😉
I don't think its ever a good idea to put down others down to make your / self / channel / country SEEM Better!!!!!!!
I'M not
Not Canadian
Not TX
But sure as -ell do not like your attitude nor Channel.
U B Smug dude!!!
@@ellafields9424 not sure what you’re going on about? No one here putting down anybody or any country.
With all due respect, Texas would end you. 100+ degrees for 2.5/3 months out of the tear is awful. The usa has plenty of more mild climates
@@iShowUnusualBehavior I’d melt like a snowman in July 😂
