- This was my '80 Suzuki GS550L... I purchased it with 14k miles on it in the summer of 08 and sold it with just over 21k in may of 09. The modifications done to the bike were simple. New paint all around and emblem removal on the small panels. Custom seat recover. Handlebars with bar end mirror. New mini turn signals all around(rear ones weren't installed in video). Slightly modified stock exhaust and K&N filter.
I've got a 1980 GS550L, which I bought a year ago to use as a cheap winter runabout when my 78 Bonneville is off the road to protect it from the salt. It's great to ride, and I've been using it all year round. Mine is a UK model and has twin front discs - I could never understand why they sold them with single disc in the US market.
I have got one of these (1977) and it has only done 7800mls. a lovely original bike.
I had a 83 Suzuki GS 550 L which was very reliable and fun to ride. I miss my Suzi. It also got great gas mileage too.

I know I'm late to the party but that is a beautiful bike. I have the exact same one, been in storage for 12 years, can't wait to get it running after watching (and hearing) your video. It's what I needed.
I owned a 1981 Suzuki GS 550L that looked almost like yours except I had it painted a dark blue metallic paint which looked great. It was lots of fun to ride, but was very temperamental when starting off in 1st gear, so you had to give it a little more throttle. I’m sorry that I ended up having to sell it in 1991.
Hey love the bike man. I have a 1980 Suzuki GS550L, it's a great bike. I started riding it when I was fifteen. I have moved on to bigger bikes, but you will never beat these older bikes. I am rebuilding mine right now, but I don't think it will ever look as good as yours.
I just bought a pristine '80 GS550L yesterday! Awesome, perfect cold start, runs like a beast, well like the video! Carbs were rebuilt and Jetted, yes, Jetted, gives it some extra Umph!! I can't wait 'til it's stops raining, what a tease, hopefully Sunday and Chicago is MINE!! Oh, got 2 Brand New His/Hers Helmets with it too for.... $1200, super pleased... Cheers!

Your bike sounds awesome. Great job removing the baffles. Honestly, this sounds better than most contemporary fours with aftermarket pipes on them.

i did a frame off restoration of a 78-81 78 frame and title with all 81 engine and parts, it was pretty sick.

im going to do this mod. but i want to know how did it ran after since it has less back pressure. did you re-jet the carbs?

@gottadrumitup dude you know you dont need an actual "jet kit". Just buy 4 jets that are 1 or 2 steps up and go from there.
You must be a motorcycle guru. I have one of these two so it must be a 750 as well, they just lied and stamped 549cc on the block. How silly of them.
