I've got a 1980 GS550L, which I bought a year ago to use as a cheap winter runabout when my 78 Bonneville is off the road to protect it from the salt. It's great to ride, and I've been using it all year round. Mine is a UK model and has twin front discs - I could never understand why they sold them with single disc in the US market.

I owned a 1981 Suzuki GS 550L that looked almost like yours except I had it painted a dark blue metallic paint which looked great. It was lots of fun to ride, but was very temperamental when starting off in 1st gear, so you had to give it a little more throttle. I’m sorry that I ended up having to sell it in 1991.

I had a 83 Suzuki GS 550 L which was very reliable and fun to ride. I miss my Suzi. It also got great gas mileage too.

did you have to rejet the carbs to run straight pipes?

mine feels like its running out of gas at around 60 what would cause this to happen?

did it change the motor tunning modifying the exhaust??

yep mine has the same pipe setup and its a 550,,750 also have diffrant plastic side plates on it

yea im still working on my bike i cant quite fix it yet but i got one for free from my uncle totally cant wait to get her going any tips as far as the carbs and were to get replacement parts?

I just bought a pristine '80 GS550L yesterday! Awesome, perfect cold start, runs like a beast, well like the video! Carbs were rebuilt and Jetted, yes, Jetted, gives it some extra Umph!! I can't wait 'til it's stops raining, what a tease, hopefully Sunday and Chicago is MINE!! Oh, got 2 Brand New His/Hers Helmets with it too for.... $1200, super pleased... Cheers!

Your bike sounds awesome. Great job removing the baffles. Honestly, this sounds better than most contemporary fours with aftermarket pipes on them.
