United flights booked with Turkish has gone up from 7500 to 10,000 points one way which isn't too bad of a devaluation! I talk about other options to use to book United flights, some that may be better than Turkish here: th-cam.com/video/qqC7rP72iDs/w-d-xo.html
100% the hardest part is finding that Saver space, I hardly search for it tbh, I just run a search through Points Yeah to tell me if it’s there or not then move on to the next best partner option.
This is so great and helpful as we "attempt" to use Cap One miles for flights from DC to Honolulu using Miles and Smiles. The thing I'm not seeing on PointsYeah is Miles and Smiles as an option. When I get to Turkish Airlines, I get "No seats available" for every flight, no matter the day or time. Will keep trying. Thanks again, Michael.
Thank you Jeannine for the kind words! I was looking around and noticed it it pretty slim pickings for that route. It got pretty frustrating trying to look on United's website because it would highlight 25k points but it wouldn't be a direct route. Then I found some Saver space in March and like you said, it wouldn't show up on Turkish Airlines for some reason, i don't have a good reason for why that is except sometimes Turkish Airlines is just finnicky like that. I was able to find some award space in the January and February time frame using Points Yeah's Daydream Explorer feature. I typed in IAD and HNL for origin and destination, searched 60 days at a time, and then filtered for Turkish Airlines and for nonstop route, and then it picked up some dates in that time frame that also showed on Turkish's website. I think unfortunately there's just not a lot of availability right now, maybe those later Saver Award dates on United might later become available on Turkish as more time goes by, we can only hope!
Do you know if you’re allowed a carry on and suitcase when booking a United flight through Turkish points? I see that it shows it as a benefit but not sure if it transfers to United
The confirmation email I got from Turkish talked about a free checked bag but also said “Below information is valid for all flights to/from US operated by TK” I’m team carry on which they definitely allowed for free, but I didn’t check about the checked baggage tbh. Pretty sure it’s just the standard economy perks so a carry and seat selection, and you’d have to pay for any checked bags.
I haven’t seen any changes in any of my counters since taking the flight, I believe it’s paid miles that count towards to that. But truthfully, I’ve never been one to pay attention to airline status.
I'm assuming you're talking about on Turkish Airlines' website during the segment at 2:43, if you search on the Award tab it will just show flights that are available with Turkish Airlines itself. The Star Award tab shows flights that are available on Star Alliance partners like United and others. Good question
I don’t have too much experience with that. My best guess would be to add the itinerary to your United app or pull it up on their website and then pay for an upgrade. You could then reimburse yourself with your venture points. It’s not great value but that’s the only option I’m aware of.
@@NurseMichaelTravels thank for replying! The trip is added to my United App and I can see that an upgrade would cost me 20,000 points + $300. I only have 4,000 miles with United because I don't fly United frequently. Do you think I could transfer 20,000 miles from my capital one to Turkish Airlines, and then transfer it to United?
Hey! This comment got caught in the “held for review” section for some reason and I didn’t see it until now, sorry for the late response. But no, you cannot transfer points to Turkish and then transfer to United. You can only transfer points from Bilt or Chase to United
I found some 2/1, 2/4 & 2/5 and Late-mid January. All with a connection sadly. I think United has been keeping more and more nonstop availability for itself. I've noticed award search tools like PointsYeah and Awardtool won't catch Turkish availability every time, sometimes they have outages, but if I see availability on Avianca for instance, many times when you check on Turkish it will be there as well.
@@NurseMichaelTravels Hi Michael, Thanks so much for checking. We where looking for specific dates and managed to find some around 9-10hrs including layover (not as good as the 6.5hr direct flight but still good) for around $170 round trip. Decided to book them and then erase travel expense with miles. I think that was a good deal given that if we where to find any (if it exists) availability with United direct it would have been best case 20k miles round trip. Still saving my miles for a trip to Japan on Nov next year. Around when should I book? Thanks
100% agree, smart to look at the cash fares as well, glad you found something. I always like to start the look about a year out when award availability gets released. So November-December time frame. Here’s a link to when award availability is typically released by airline partner: upgradedpoints.com/travel/airlines/when-do-airlines-release-award-seats/
@@Balphis sorry about that, you’re right! The correct phone number is: 1-800-874-8875 I edited my previous comment as well so there won’t be confusion.
Just saw that! Looks like the main changes in relation to this video is that the prices will raise from 7500 to 10,000 one way. And you maybe charged per connection which will be the biggest bummer if true. They gave us a week until the changes take effect at least, unfortunately devaluations happen all the time.

You’re welcome! I’m glad it was helpful!
Wow! Best tutorial out there for booking with Turkish miles! If only I can find United saver space!

I appreciate the kind words, welcome aboard!

Awesome thank you, can you book international business class travel
Yes you can, but Turkish Airlines recently had a devaluation so a lot of the good business class redemptions aren’t there anymore

Do you earn lifetime miles thur United or Turkish that will count for 1 million miler status?

Whats the difference between star award and award

How can I upgrade my cabin (with my CapitalOne Venture) on my United flight from Phoenix USA to Barcelona Spain? The ticket was bought by my company.

Not when they’re award flights sadly
Great video, unnecessarily long process by Turkish 😂
Agreed 😂 it does get easier for future bookings after that first one luckily
WHAT IS THE NUMBER YOU CALLED FOR TURKISH?
I called: 1-800-874-8875

Currently not, sadly.
Apparently, Turkish just completely devalued their points.
