DISCLAIMER: This video is more than likely gonna be a part 1 to a 2 part video in which part 2 will feature jays section about take alongs etc! There is no set date for the second part but I will update you guys on twitter when the time comes (:
The main reason we haven't gotten a re-release of Christopher's books is because he HATES his publisher and basically refuses to work with them. They became extremely pushy in the 90s with including Thomas in every book, and that's why we never got another Skarloey railway book that would've given Ivo Hugh an actual personality or a book with the austerity engine.
Very true but it doesn’t make sense from Egmonts pov, they would make a good amount from releasing all 42 books in a set or a book similar to CAs 2007 release the New Collection. And releasing it in 2025 would make sense to commemorate the Railway Series
also the publisher straight up refused to reprint some books and when he asked to buy the rights to print it back so he could find someone to print it they refused to sell it back to him
The more I watch these videos I realize just how obsessed I was with Thomas when I was a kid. I have so many of the track master (including two track master Oliver’s) and Hornby models and books.

Hornby Dart’s existence is legitimately funny to me. They couldn’t give either Edward or Emily their correct bases, but Dart- a nothing character up until Season 19- gets a model that’s dead on. Granted, Bachmann is making Beau just because they’ve already made his basis, but still.
They also make Murdoch’s basis and there’s a demonstrable demand for such a model and they just keep refusing to make him. God, I hope the license makes its way back to Hornby someday.

Trackmaster Alfie was only released in Canada for about 3 ish months. He was also defective on the trackmaster road system, and that's why he's so expensive.
Great video and thanks for the mention! I was as surprised as you were when I realised just how rare Emily with the Number 12 is the other week when attempting to look for one. Not one of my most desired items as I'm trying to refrain myself from buying too many variants right now but definitely one I would love to have still.
So fun fact, at 10:23, that flip face James used to be priced at £20 a couple of years ago, I would know as I bought mine from that seller for that price... how times have changed
I live in America and Months ago or about a year ago, I got the haul of a lifetime at a Flea Market, a family there was selling a whole bunch of toys ranging from Cars Diecast, Toys to Life items like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, but they also had a ton of Thomas toys, specifically Tomy playrail trains, even some Japanese exclusive stuff, all looked cool, But the ones I had my eyes on, Were a Plarail Hiro, the shaking cream cars, and the Plarail Japanese Talking Thomas, Percy(the iterations before the CGI faced updated ones), James, and Gordon, all complete with their respective wagons, tenders, coaches, and all work like brand new, though Gordon had more paint scratches in spots than the others, all adding up to around 35-45 bucks in total I had to pay. May seem like a lot, but for Japanese exclusive toys, I thought it was a good total price for them all:)
You're amazing bro. What I like about you is that it's not always about Thomas DVDs and tapes. You show many different stuff that you have besides Thomas and that's why I subscribed to you. Awesome job bro.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
When I was a kid I got a signed copy of the Island of Sodor: its people, history and railways with the special signed ribbon still included. Apparently that goes for a lot now too
I can actually explain a little more with the distribution of Happy Holidays here in Australia. It was originally released here on VHS in the year 2000, and had some different episodes instead of “Bye, George!”, “Toby and the Flood” and “Better View for Gordon”, being “Stepney Gets Lost”, “Thomas, Percy and Old Slow Coach” and “Busy Going Backwards”. Interestingly, it had all three of the same songs as the UK edition, being “Percy’s Seaside Trip”, “Come for the Ride” and “Harold the Helicopter”. In the period of the early to mid-2000s, ABC for Kids- the children’s media sub beach of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, re-released several VHS compilations onto DVD, including “Truckloads of Fun”, two Series 6 compilations (Jet Engine and Twin Trouble), “Engines to the Rescue”, and “The Very Best of Thomas & Friends”. When re-distributing Happy Holidays in 2006, more than likely someone must not have gotten the memo that there were three songs also included on the tape, just like back when they re-distributed “Truckloads of Fun” in 2005. When they realised their error, it was already too late. ABC recalled the DVDs, only a few were sold. However the DVD was cancelled and never released again, with the songs included. Which is a shame, because honestly I would like to have collected DVD re-releases of the VHS I watched so much in my childhood. I dunno, seasons 3-5 stuck with me more than anything.
That Thomas Light & Sound in package is mine. I recognize my table and wall. I e been working to get more of the Hornby carriages - there’s my Stepney Oliver and others lol! I wish I had picked up some stuff when I came to the uk in 1986 - I went to several model shops in London but I got other European models instead of the early Hornby Thomas. It’s crazy that those tapes are so expensive now. It’s too bad today for kids - at least here in the US. Do little good merch to find. Bachmann seems to be the only ones making good stuff these days. Loved hearing your thoughts on those rare items. Now I got more things to look for - lol
I'm glad I bought my Bandai Diesel 10 back in 2017 or something like that, it cost me $115 but I don't regret it considering the good condition it's in and how highly valued it's become nowadays
The rarest thing in in this video that I have is the Thomas and his friends book, I got it on Amazon in the early 2010s as well as 6 other Chris RWS books
@@chazzywaz Normally, just walk in, and when they ask you what are you doing here you say you want to reminisce the old days or say that you're a parent.
@@Sudriantank743 Why would they? I would personally check all the classrooms, and if they're students in there I would say "Sorry, wrong class" and wait until the bell rings, after that I follow the teacher to the place she goes to return the key to steal it hen there's no one around, and then I search for Diesel 10. The Blockbuster tapes were rental exclusive. They are from their Kidmoungus series, Blockbuster's kids line that just combined two tapes that were already out on the market at the time into one so techincally they were available for purchase outside of Blockbuster but in two parts.
One of the other rare items is the Meccano 0 gauge clockwork Percy set that came with plastic track, 2 wagons, Percy and a book of Percy the small engine. Didn't sell well so Meccano changed the face to a smoke box and resold it elsewhere. Often reaches over £200 but I bought a complete set for £50
The TSMU Fan has the Christopher Awdry books (minus "Thomas and his Friends") and I was surprised he has that book he got on his own hands in the first place.
the Hornby models were most likely made for adult collectors, which is probably why they were not available in toy stores. this is also reflected in how they were often more accurate to the real prototypes than in the TV show. Thomas himself is a great example, normally Thomas is quite short, however the Hornby model was much longer, representing the actual LBSC E2 locomotive. i know this was probably pretty obvious but whatever
8:53 istg I've been to Toys R Us and Smyths several times during my youth, and I can't name an instance where I found any available off-rail vehicle on shelves besides characters like Bertie or Bulgy, so I don't blame you for never finding any of the Pack.
thomas wooden railway lorry 3 was only available in 2002 with a mail in coupon proving you bought a set and they almost never show up online i got lucky and got the lorry 3, boco, and tygermoth bundle for $200 but lorry 3 by itself was selling for $300 original
I believe that one of the rarest items in the first edition of the three railway engine since it’s a completely different art style, first railway series thing ever and consistently listed for thousands of dollars
I find it funny that I have some of these like the push along emily I have that recalled DVD somewhere at my grandmas and 3 tomy Chinese dragons I didn’t think they were rare perks of being Australian if you do a part 2 you should include the ertl brown trucks
I think the most expensive Thomas and Friends product I ever bought was my Hornby Gordon back in 2002. £70 brand new back then... and when I say I bought it, my grandmother bought it. She'd buy me anything. Never mind the fact that I was 8 years old and would probably end up breaking it... I did however own the Hornby Stepney and it was a garbage runner. It's probably still in her loft with the rest of my models. I might have picked up Murdoch as well, I can't really remember. If it was released prior to 2010, there's a chance. Either way, they've been gathering dust for 14 years, so they're probably not in running condition. Also, I know the pain of browsing eBay for shits and giggles. I don't even need to buy something. I just want to have a look... You know how you mentioned the original 2 VHS tapes for Season 1 of Thomas and Friends? I shit you not, a few weeks ago, I saw the even rarer first BETAMAX tape of S1. The tape looked to be in relatively good quality too. I didn't stick around until the end of the auction, but looking through Edge history, it looks like the tape went for about 100 quid. Pretty reasonable considering how long Beta's been a dead format...
I had the Toby Flip Face as a kid. (I’m Australian) and I got back on to collecting Thomas only recently, which is when I realised my grandparents gave it to my cousins who live in the US.
There is a completely different range of merchandise which must be far harder to find than anything else, and that is the items produced in the 1960s when only the original Rev. Audry's books were available and television was still only black and white. I owned two records of Johnny Morris (who was a well known presenter on children's television and was famous for being able to do a range of funny voices) reading some of the original stories. The records were the size of singles but played at 33rpm - as far as I recall and my memory may not be entirely accurate. Oh how I wish I still owned those records! The books at that time were hardback with paper sleeves. The paper sleeves showed the same designs as the present editions and the hardback covers were a plain colour (all different) with outline drawings of the featured engines embossed in silver. The back of the paper sleeves sometimes advertised products, one was a toy Percy with (I think) a couple of trucks and a circle of wide black plastic track. Percy was powered by clockwork. There was also a map of Sodor but I think this would have been far more crude than recent editions. I am sure I remember some cut-out card models of Thomas and his two coaches (?), which were printed on to sheets of card and would have to be folded to make the 3D model.
You reminded me that in the nineties I owned a (very) little ceramic Percy model made by Wade who normally make miniature animals but are collectible. Looking it up I discovered that someone is currently offering a Wade Percy and Thomas on e-bay. I also owned a tiny model of Thomas and Annie & Clarabel but I do not remember the manufacturer. @@pilotbug6100
I did see a Push Along Emily with the number 12 at the Midland Railway Centre today but I didn't buy it. It was mostly since I did have one that I used for my custom Bloomer.
Child (now adult) of a former blockbuster employee who spent way to much time in one just looking at DVD cases, I can sorta answer the question of if the Blockbuster DVD/Tapes were ever sold, and the answer is a very solid…maybe? Whilst I don’t know the exact process, Blockbuster would put items for sale in stores, usually on side cabinets marked down to a couple bucks, I frequently saw children’s movies and shows here, and even got the first few episodes of Batman Beyond here on one DVD as a gift with the sticker saying it was like, 5 bucks, and this was at least a solid few years before they started to collapse. After they started closing, I overheard you could basically just go in and say “Hey, I wanna buy this” but by then my dad had quit and we had Cable, so I’m not super sure how true that is
I own two Christopher books, Thomas and the Great Railway show, and the final book in the series. It was purchased years ago meaning it was more easily in stock.
I’ve been collecting Thomas and friends merch since I’ve gotten back into the franchise and I have to say the obscure items are genuinely obscure. I also collect FNaF merch but NIB Fnaf merch is so easily findable and most “rare” fnaf merch isn’t that rare, at least compared to thomas merch. Ive had the luck of aquiring 4 of the 7 deluxe play scene sets, Talking Thomas and Talking Hiro in their original packaging with accessories, the NIB Thomas, Percy and Dragon set, NIB take along Hiro, NIB push along Thomas with snow plow and some other NIB rare stuff, but it’s really difficult to find this stuff for sale as they barely appear, at least NIB. I still regret not getting the Best of Thomas and Best of Gordon DVDs that had the 3D faces, nor the NIB Rusty Boulder set or NIB James Flying Kipper pack.
I remember when I was little (maybe 6 or 7) there was this tent at a flea market that was absolutely FILLED with early 2000’s trackmaster (it was incredible, I wish I got photos), and every time we went to that flea market, they were there with new stuff. I once found a flip face Thomas (it was the coal version) and I LEFT IT, I beat myself up for that now, cuz it was in perfect condition. -_-
I actually have that “new collection” RWS book and I got it for really cheap in a bundle and it’s in mint condition so I guess I consider that lucky lol.
Along with that bandai tec diesel 10 I’d say what’s even more rare than that is the bandai tec red express coach, I found one recently, but i’ve been waiting nearly 3 years to find it.
What stinks for me is I really want Hornby’s Murdoch but because I was a kid when he came out and my parents (understandably) didn’t want to spend that much on a single model, I’ve just lucked out
11:46 I've been wanting this item after I got back interest to Thomas in 2021 but sadly this item was never released in north America heck even they never released this item on both amazon or eBay but when it was released they only released in Uk similar to Monty, Alfie, and a bunch of Ertl items from season 6 and 7 another odd thing about this item is that no one ever made an unboxing video about it idk why Mattel decided to this to us, they even have it on a Walmart listing on the official Walmart website but it just said out of stock idk if someone bought this or not and I don't see it anywhere in stores
i own the chinese dragon thomas and didn’t even realise, his stickers are in really bad shape and his chassis is broken in half as he was second hand but i never knew he was rare
I swear either Bachmann hate making money or Mattel has banned Bachmann from letting me get an affordable Murdoch. Like, £1500 for a Murdoch online and Bachmann don’t want a slice of that demand? WtaF?
The Old Bachmann Rolling Stock Like The Old Mail Car, HO Scale Tar Tanker, The Old Oil Tanker, And The Paint Car Are Extremely Hard To Find Now. I’ve Not Seen A Single One At A Hobby Shop Or EBay And Very Few People Own Those Old Variants. If You Want To Throw This Into Part 2 You Can Certainly Do So
All thomas merch is kinda expensive, that's why I sorta became less picky with what version of a character I want now, hoping to build my sodor railway.
6:17 as a uk fan of the original show. It hurts that one of my favourite vhs tapes ghost train and other stories now goes for a £100 and even going under it it's still far too much. It's a shame I no longer have this tape.
OM gosh I have Tales From The Tracks and Thomas' Christmas Wonderland, both DVD covers are ripped and scuffed, and both discs are scratched though they still play 😭 and the CD music sampler from the former was misplaced years ago
I just searched the average price abouts for the “Tales from the Tracks” disc (since I myself have one in good condition). What are you talking about, most of the discs are pretty well priced (5-10 bucks)?
That trackmaster thomas with the painted eyes is actually from the hit toys release of the pack, because the tomy version came with a shocked thomas for whatever reason
Someone on facebook has a bachmann oliver and Stepney for sale but both unboxed. Doesnt list the price just says open to offers wpuld these be worth buying?
Fun fact: the only way to get the push along Emily with the number 12 is getting the all-around sodor deluxe set and right now there are going for around $200 or $100
The Thomas and the Chinese dragon I found the body in mint condition but the chassis in horrible condition, sadly I didn’t buy it and instead got the whistle and sounds Thomas, Percy as well as a tomy Donald and two powered narrow gauge coaches from tomy
I had boxes of tomy Thomas sets and models, boxes of hornby models. And my grandad accidentally threw them into a skip. I’ve never been so livid in my life
Even though I’m four months late, I wanted to say this I have the original songs from the station DVD without the 20th Century Fox logo which can be pretty hard to find and you don’t really find it on eBay. I got it in 2022. I can’t remember what store I got it but I believe it was a store that sell used DVDs in Canada anyways I’m still glad I own this original release

Really enjoyed this. Thanks for posting!
When I was 2, I had so much Thomas the Tank Engine. We still have most of it in storage to this day. Gonna make bank now off these
Have a Hornby Murdoch myself. its amusing to see how much they go for on ebay now.... considering I only paid AU$218 when it was released
0:34 me with Yu-gi-oh cards
6:13 i have tales from the tracks dvd
I think I will look into that
You reminded me that in the nineties I owned a (very) little ceramic Percy model made by Wade who normally make miniature animals but are collectible. Looking it up I discovered that someone is currently offering a Wade Percy and Thomas on e-bay. I also owned a tiny model of Thomas and Annie & Clarabel but I do not remember the manufacturer. @@pilotbug6100
I know next to nothing about thomas i just clicked on this vid cus i like learning about rare merchandise, good video btw
After they started closing, I overheard you could basically just go in and say “Hey, I wanna buy this” but by then my dad had quit and we had Cable, so I’m not super sure how true that is
The rarest item I have is the wooden railway troublesome van. I got it off ebay for €50 on my birthday last year!
I own two Christopher books, Thomas and the Great Railway show, and the final book in the series. It was purchased years ago meaning it was more easily in stock.
There's lots more rare Wooden Railway engines where that came from.
Two notable ones are 2017 Oliver and Timothy.
Poor you 😢
@@Sudriantank743 Woah, that’s really cool! Good inspiration for a story.
So, there was some specific canadian tapes that was realesed only the instrumentals, these are very rare tapes
I actually have that “new collection” RWS book and I got it for really cheap in a bundle and it’s in mint condition so I guess I consider that lucky lol.
Honestly, we can all agree that TTTE merch comes in all shapes and sizes and costs
Along with that bandai tec diesel 10 I’d say what’s even more rare than that is the bandai tec red express coach, I found one recently, but i’ve been waiting nearly 3 years to find it.
Leo probably doesn’t even know the Chinese dragon, Thomas is rare he probably thinks it’s just a normal one
12:46 look Gary there I am!
HOLY SHITTTT MY GRANDMA HAS THE TRACKMASTER THOMAS WITH PAINTED EYES AND A MATTE FINISH GUYS WHAT DO I DO
@@Sudriantank743 I GOT IT

Powerful Gordon was released in 2002. Just putting this here in case you wanted the exact year.
6:12 Oh shit. I spent $15s on that and still have it
Edit: nvm I have the DVD, not the VHS
I just realized I own a copy of “Tale From The Tracks” on DVD. I didn’t know it had value
i actually had "tales from the tracks" didnt know that was a rare one
I got emily with no 12 for discount at walmart. I didn't think it was rare back then.
i own the chinese dragon thomas and didn’t even realise, his stickers are in really bad shape and his chassis is broken in half as he was second hand but i never knew he was rare
The fact you mentioned Thomas Comes To Breakfast and a copy sold today for £65 is so ironic 😅
Ah yes, the White Face Troublesome Truck.
In my country South Africa. We have South african DVD Releases of thomas and friends.
If You Want To Throw This Into Part 2 You Can Certainly Do So
8:37 Ive got that alfie in my cupboard and the brown on mixer in my attic
glad to see some Australian home media release representation here!
All thomas merch is kinda expensive, that's why I sorta became less picky with what version of a character I want now, hoping to build my sodor railway.
I got a question what video did you watch to find 10:33
In my opinion, if you want the TV looking models, get bachman, if you want more realistic railway series look, go for hornby.
I somehow found flip face Toby at a goodwill for only 50 cents
6:17 as a uk fan of the original show. It hurts that one of my favourite vhs tapes ghost train and other stories now goes for a
£100 and even going under it it's still far too much. It's a shame I no longer have this tape.
OM gosh I have Tales From The Tracks and Thomas' Christmas Wonderland, both DVD covers are ripped and scuffed, and both discs are scratched though they still play 😭 and the CD music sampler from the former was misplaced years ago
Only the VHS of Tales From The Tracks is rare.
I still have a copy of Tales from the tracks and I have it in a display case to keep it safe after finding out it was considered rare
Someone on facebook has a bachmann oliver and Stepney for sale but both unboxed. Doesnt list the price just says open to offers wpuld these be worth buying?
I really want that Murdoch model now
4:53: yeah that one, the one with the yellow casing!
I have the push along Emily with the 12
Those Trackmaster push along emily's filled the shelves in australia. With the number 12
I love how he just says " like Leo did " and making us assume who leo is. Maybe he should make a video about Leokimvideo
I mean who doesn't know who he is?
I honestly had no idea Thomas had an Australian specific release.. the more you know?
Fun fact: the only way to get the push along Emily with the number 12 is getting the all-around sodor deluxe set and right now there are going for around $200 or $100
The Thomas and the Chinese dragon I found the body in mint condition but the chassis in horrible condition, sadly I didn’t buy it and instead got the whistle and sounds Thomas, Percy as well as a tomy Donald and two powered narrow gauge coaches from tomy
I had boxes of tomy Thomas sets and models, boxes of hornby models. And my grandad accidentally threw them into a skip. I’ve never been so livid in my life
What about the Meccano Pecy train set from 1967?
Even though I’m four months late, I wanted to say this I have the original songs from the station DVD without the 20th Century Fox logo which can be pretty hard to find and you don’t really find it on eBay. I got it in 2022. I can’t remember what store I got it but I believe it was a store that sell used DVDs in Canada anyways I’m still glad I own this original release
I remember both based off Thomas's trusty friends and quite frankly still want to get my hand on the original dvd at least.
i actually have a flip face james and welll i still have it. it even came with a cattle wagon and brakevan from the early 1990's
