A Wedding Shot with the Fuji X-T2 - Who needs Canon or Nikon anymore?

  • In this video we show you a wedding captured recently by us using Fuji X-T2 cameras and a selection of Fujinon lenses.
    Why would anyone want to carry around a heavy, bulky Canon or Nikon anymore?? Let the debate begin!! (This is our opinion only from being ex Canon shooters, I know there are pro's and con's from either brand, what are your thoughts???)

    No idea who this couple is but with that said, even I enjoyed looking at the photos. :D
    The venue and decor were beautiful! The bride kinda looks like Emily Blunt. I couldn't tell who the groom was at first. Lol!

    You guys think xt20 with 23mmf2 and 50mmf2 will be all I need for a wedding . It's gonna be my first wedding shoot so kinda nervous . Oh also one speed light

    Do you find trouble trying to focus? I feel like every time I'm trying to focus on one thing it's not focusing quick enough. Do you have the same problem? Great images by the way.

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Heather Buczek Hi buddy! Sometimes the focusing can be slow but normally only in very low lighting conditions. I normally rectify this by choosing a bigger focusing square. The smallest square can be a pain sometimes if your subject isn't standing still. Our wider angle lenses have no issue though, the 16mm f1.4 is a dream!! The 23mm f1.4 can sometimes cause the odd issue, however I used to experience the same problems with the Canon 5D mark 3. We also make sure the booster grip is set to boost mode which also helps with focusing. If it's really dark you'll be surprised how good the zone tacking is for obtaining focus, using the large centre portion.

    • @heatherbuczek895
      @heatherbuczek895 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I notice it on high contrast things. I do use the bigger focusing Square. My three lenses that I have is the 23 mm 35 mm and the 56 mm. I use the 23 a lot and the 56 I noticed with the 56 are used it at my most recent wedding and couldn't focus quick enough with movement. Do you have any ideas may be what.... movement tracking I should use for weddings? I do have the battery grip. Thank you for your help I appreciate it. I am a professional photographer for over 16 years and I've used Canon most my life. I've seen so much awesome tutorials on this camera and I do love it very much. I love the sharpness of the lenses it's amazing. I just miss The faster focusing and high-speed sync. Because I use flashpoint flashes I love them very much because of the lithium ion battery lasts throughout an entire wedding. But I have to manually change it on the flash itself it's OK but I would rather be able to change it from my transmitter on my camera just a few obstacles I guess.

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Heather Buczek for tracking we use continuous focus, centre zone focusing (all centre points) and scene mode 2. Intend to then use continuous low shutter mode, works a treat. We use Nissin I60 flashes that give TTL function but no HSS. However there is going to be a new flash from Godox for Fuji cameras that will have HSS and TTL

    • @emailkaneilo
      @emailkaneilo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have the 56 but I have used it. I only use it for portraits. Regarding the other lenses, for fast paced wedding I find that that the 35 f/2 is just amazing on the XT2. very fast and precise. Have you tried HSS with the Cactus V2 triggers with any canon/nikon flash. With regards to flash sync speed with a mounted flash, i use the X100s. So, due to the leaf shutter, i don't have any problems. BTW I was a Canon shooter for 6 years and I switched to Fuji back in 2013. No looking back.

      the 23 1.4 35 .4 and 56 1.2 are all the slightly older tech with the focus motors and can be a bit of a pain especially with speed but where they are better is tack sharpness wide open. the 16-35 2.8 and 50-140 2.8 are probably the best pair for focus speed acquisition and focus tracking and the 23 and 35 f2 are again newer design and faster focus but not quite as good wide open.

    I have another question. I set it so that I can adjustment the ISO and SS in camera with the front dial and rear dials. But it seems to only work if I have the ISO dial set to "A" and the SS set to "T". Does that matter as long as it works. Not sure sure what the "T" stands for yet. Thank you again! I learn so much from you guys!

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +lindabacaphotography I believe this is the only way you have to use the dials for adjustment. T stands for time I believe and is the correct setting for allowing control via the rear command dial. Remember you are now also able to set ISO with the rear dial. You have to switch this ok though in the settings and move the ISO dial to A

    I use the 23 f1.4 and Im not a huge fan of it at all. It has a lot of trouble focusing and my images often turns out blurry. I dont own the 35 1.4 but I've been thinking of getting that one instead and hopefully get better results when shooting weddings.

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 35 f1.4 is a little old now and you will find it struggles in low light, yes its nice and sharp in good light. The 23mm f2 is sharp and focuses well in low light, yes you loose a stop of light but its focusing speed and addition off WR makes up for it

    I currently shoot xt2, xt1, 16, 35 and 56. Just picked up the 23f1.4. Haven't used it yet at a wedding but looking forward to it as the 16 can be a bit wide at times.

      +Kristopher Pounds we have 50-140, 56, 23 f1.4, 16, 90, 35 f2, and 10-24

    • @kristopherpounds7834
      @kristopherpounds7834 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice. I had the 50-140 for awhile but sold it because A) it was too slow af on the xt1 for dimly lit ceremonies and B) it wasn't getting the same results of my Sony and Nikon 70-200s. But now I highly regret selling it. The xt2 would have helped the af, and it has its own unique qualities aside from a 70-200. Every time I revisit a shoot that I shot with the 50-140, I kick myself for getting rid of it.

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kristopher Pounds I know what you mean where it can struggle in low light, you just have to make sure you have a decent size focusing point. Would be nice if there was a flash with built in AF beam

    I sold my 5d 3 for xt2 AFTER having a Xt1 and I know how lovely fujifilm can be. Although worried a bit I might regret selling my almost new 5d3. Im testing the xt2 now. Im still going too get the 6d2 when it comes out, but the 5d3 was not being used compared to my 6d and felt I wanted to enjoy the experience with the Xt2 for family and every day portrait shoots. My is the silver one and basically the function button for choosing S, CL and CH doesn't click like my old Xt1. Is this a fault. I assume it is. I only had it three days. Its is hard to push around and doesn't click to position. Please let me know if this is the case, and id you prefer the black version. Thanks

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +The Secret Photographer Hi I think the dials are a little stiffer than the XT1 to prevent accidentally changing. However my dials do click into place, both dials should feel the same (drive and metering mode)

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 16mm f1.4 and think its a great lens, I also have the 23mm f2, I sold my 23mm f1.4 as it was quite slow to focus in low light. I now tend to prefer the 23 over the 16. I just prefer that focal length.

      The Photography Team do you find the 56 1.2 hard to focus in low light? Trying to decide between this and the 50 f2. Thanks! I see that you’ve switched to Sony but if you have any insight on this it would be much appreciated!

    for me the biggest issue is altering the way i shoot, I shoot fast, expect the camera to be as fast as me and my 1dx and now 1dxmk2 is, especially with its custom func setup for 2 button press and hold to be in focus tracking , let go and back to normal. ive tried to shoot solely on the fuji but screws with my brain when i cant shoot the way my muscle memory is sort of programmed to. more considered work away from wedding with natural light portraiture etc the fuji is amazing I just cant get ti to be the camera system for me at wedding , although i would love it to be. nice images by the way ...:)

    • @nathan_woodgate
      @nathan_woodgate  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Karl Bratby Yes that is one downside, I would love to have a one button press for zone tracking and continuous focus. Maybe will be released in a firmware update?

      I shoot RAW as well. Tried the jpg to see and not a fan of losing control over the entire image for editing. I do like the CC look. Nice feel to it. How do you find your settings listed below with Heather work for the bouquet toss? This is a new system for me (since AUG) and will be my 1st wedding with it. Came from Sony and Canon. But have had lots of practice shooting the high school Marching Band...tons of movement. Also do you make it thru the entire wedding/reception with just the 3 batteries on the booster and camera or do you need to replace? I'm also toying with purchasing the Godox TTL flash so that I don't have to drag out the Profotos for everything.

    Fuji is great. I own an XT-1 and love it but let's be realistic Canon and Nikon are still the kings. I still take out my original Canon 5D classic and my Canon t6s and shoot great photos with accurate auto focus on the t6s that blows away my XT-1 and the Canon colors are still amazing. Fuji has amazing colors as well. I just find this a bit fanboyism and bashing other companies. Kinda sad. I would expect some of the responses to be mature and not something two 14 year old boys would do in the playground. Canon is amazing. Sony is starting to pick up steam. Fuji sadly went from being different to one of the norms. The first Xpro1, x100 and Xe-1 were great cameras. Now Fuji is trying to put soo much into the camera. I had the original X100 and it was great. A bit cheaply feeling in the hand though. Very junky plastic for the price. I come from the school of film cameras though.
