    Have dreamed about getting a PHEV or BEV, but we live in a block in Warsaw so recharging overnight is not realistic while installing a charging station in the communal underground garage is more complicated to get agreement on than the Middle East Peace Process [individual installation needs to be agreed by all the residents] and the cost of installation is prohibitive.

    Its not a bad car but you did hit the nail on the head when you said for people to wait a couple of years and get the car a lot cheaper.The Suzuki after 3 years will make an excellent used car buy.

    Everything is clear: the trick of buying the RAV4 and selling it under its own brand, worse interior equipment, even the fact that the price is higher than the original. It's easy to guess that Suzuki has to pay Toyota a lot of money for each car and to impose a reasonable margin and earn not only for the entire Across "circus", but also for the costs of paying fines for polluting the environment by the entire model range.
    What is completely unclear is the reason why the European Commission is forcing the car market to do such bizarre tricks, because the entire automotive world is responsible for air pollution - in the European Union and according to its own reports - only in range circa 16-18%. Meanwhile, the European Commission does not mind several million old central heating stoves in Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and many other countries, when they emit many times more pollution than the entire automotive world. The Polish Smog Alarm cannot accurately estimate this, but in our country old stoves can be responsible for up to 70% of all the rubbish flying in the air. And what? And nothing - the EU continues to oppress the automotive industry, because it pays nicely. Shit - it's all rather sad. Mr Marek, you drive a lot across our beautiful country and you know very well what I happens when you drive through little town or village in the evening: sometimes the smog / smoke is so thick, that you can see only for 50-100 metres, no more. Cancer guaranteed.
    Anyway thanks for the video and comparison to RAV4 - the thumb went up ;-)
    P.S. Sorry for mess in my English - I was writing very quickly catching my thoughts ...

      I assume it's easier to persuade relatively wealthy people to buy more expensive cars, than to force relatively poor people to spend money on being greener. Apparently evicting people to live in the streets is not a popular move among those in question, and there seems to be no legal basis to deprive them of their democratic right to vote against those, who penalize them for their trash disposal transgressions.

      I think EU bureaucrats want to remind about themselves. Remember when COVID-19 vaccines were quite fast approved by US, UK and Israel institutions (non-EU countries), while in EU it was stuck somewhere in corridors?

    I am a big fan of Suzuki and own a Suzuki motorcycle and a Suzuki Cappuccino ( tiny "Kei" car) and am thinking of buying a Vitara. However from the customer viewpoint, I don't see the point of the Across as the equivalent RAV4 is a more established product and will probably hold its value better than the Across. As some other subscribers comment it's all to do with stupid EU rules. Very good review thanks.

    I didn't even know this car existed! I remember when Aston Martin made a small city car based on a Toyota Aygo for similar reasons? Or am I getting that won't? Anyway if the price is right, then this is a decent motor. Can't go wrong with those Toyota hybrid drivetrains these days....

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Aston Martin Cygnet based on the Toyota iQ (very clever packaging, but too big/too small/too expensive to make sense). I don't remember if the Cygnet was a compliance car, or if someone thought it would appease the eco-conscious clientele. Probably Toyota made a deal of the century recouping some of the iQ development costs from Aston.

    Starting price tag is beyond 50k Euros... pretty expensive for a Suzuki, and a car of its class. BMW X3 base prices cost cheaper than that! For 52k Euros you can get a fully loaded Hyundai Santa Fe, or even cheaper than that because Hyundai often give friendly discounts! Here in Belgium, you can get a 2.5 petrol hybrid Toyota Rav4 are a decent price of between 45-50k Euros, the only RAV4 that costs beyond 50k are those with accessories/luxury equipment.

    What happends, when driving in hybrid mode and petrol runs out, if battery is full enough for EV mode? ...I traveled recently with my hybrid cross country, where I automatically run in hybrid on highway. I planned to reach certain petrol station, but while my battery level was almost full, fuel tank closed to approx. 2km range and it occured to me, if car is smart enough to allow, or even switch to on itself to EV-only mode with dry tank... :)

    • @MarekDrives

      I don't know. In over 20 years of driving I ran out of fuel only once, and it was in my car.

    • @alliejr
      @alliejr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting question. Of course the car is capable of pure EV driving. The question is, has the computer been programmed to allow it when the ICE is offline? My guess is, YES. In general, an ICE never knows when it is out of fuel; it stops because combustion ceases, not because of any " no fuel" sensor.

    • @metoo3773
      @metoo3773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alliejr then why do all plug-in hybrids show that the consumption is 1.5-1.9 liters per 100 km? Even if you go all ev mode it still turns it on once in a while from what I heard. when u go ev mode does the display show 0 liters per 100km? never heard that

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Metoo3 the short answer is: it depends.
      TL:DR
      Petrol engine sometimes kicks in to get up to temperature so it's read to take over, for example under hard acceleration. When, if, and how often this happens will depend on the engineering, driving style, and weather. And yes, in this Suzuki Across if you watch the "Since start" (or whatever it's called) trip data, you can have 0L/100km as long, as the petrol engine hasn't come on.
      As for driving in electric on an empty tank, I'd imagine if you really run out of petrol, and the car cannot turn the engine on to keep the optimum temperature, it will probably go into some kind of limp mode to allow you to get to the nearest gas station.

    In States, they called “RAV4 Prime” 🙄... should’ve called “RAV4 PHEV” instead. But those are hard to get right now due high demand in the market. To get one, you’ve to pre-order it and put $1,000 USD deposit down and a year waitlist. If I was going to Toyota dealership they won’t sell to me “RAV4 Prime” cuz most their inventory has been reserved or not reserved they markup prices over MSRP vehicles.

  • @rileypart1
    @rileypart1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    And I agree mostly PHEV or Electric is not design for long road trip. If so you probably need to stick with hybrid or petrol for long road trip. I’ve Toyota Prius Prime aka Prius PHEV love the car only down part short range I wouldn’t able do long distance drive.

    there will be superb offers on the car half a year down the road or a bit later.
    and 1-2 year old cars will be a lot cheaper on the market than toyta. Even if suzuki goes tits up - there will be plenty of parts for it later. just the small bits of the body will be questionable.
    My gripe is the material quality. It is 40++ K eur car and the interior is made from cheapest looking and feeling plastic and generic buttons that feel and sound awful during winter. The sound insulation is not there and the car feels "thin". BUT - it drives well. Better than many european or other cars. Has good performance for what it is...

    There is barely no point on buying this car, as you get more from Toyota for less money. As learned from the future, Suzuki will disappear one day from the automotive market, similar to Daihatsu, back in the days they sold the Toyota Yaris rebadged and that has been their the last thing they sold on the European market. Other than that, Suzuki (and also Daihatsu) have been good cars manufacturers throughout all the years, never had major scandals on management / production / quality side. I am deeply sorry to see Suzuki go, but also in hard times, everybody has to take a look in his own purse: why buy something with less features for more money than the original.

      Suzuki and Daihatsu always were good car manufacturers, and they still are. Daihatsu is fully owned by Toyota and develops their small cars and trucks. But Europe never appreciated their products. The same goes for Suzuki. I saw a review recently from South Africa, of the Toyota Starlet which is just a rebadged Suzuki Baleno. Strictly the same car, both imported from Japan, but the Toyota can be offered at a lower price because Toyota, being a major importer, pays less import tax. See th-cam.com/video/i_9PUuD5eWw/w-d-xo.html.

    • @hedydd2
      @hedydd2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSynecdoche
      The Daihatsu Fourtrak once was Land Rover's main rival in the UK and gained a very substantial market share. Unfortunately Daihatsu never did develop and modernise the range and eventually ceased production leaving only their tiny cars and forward control pickups on the market. While the Daihatsu Charade did sell in reasonable volumes, it was not enough to sustain either dealership franchises or, ultimately, the continued importation of the brand.
      Suzuki is currently ticking over but I wouldn't put money on its continued UK presence in the long term.

    In Hungary you can't buy the plug in RAV 4, only the regular hybrid.
    And the Across only comes as a plug in. Deal of the century, right?
    Well... It costs as much as a BMW M340i xDrive Touring without options. Or a base Volvo XC90.
    If I want to drive on electric power alone, I will get an electric car. If I want to drive long distances, I will get a diesel or a petrol.
    If I want to do both, I will spend 40k on an electric car and the remaining 18-20k on a 2 year old demo car.

      @@AliHijazi Suzuki, too. Is the world champion in moto at the moment, produces and sells the fastest motorcycle. The company's capitalization is over $ 20 billion, and global auto sales are on the 9th place. So you're not much of a Vanga! ps Suzuki is in the top three of the world's reliability (along with Honda and Toyota). So if you want to travel and do not attempt to repair the choice is not great.

      Small? Unlike the USA, most Europeans aren’t the size of a Wall-E character.

    Toyota or Suzuki? Neither of them, they both a dreadful and useless. Chose regular station wagon and forget those bollocks.
