A car nearly as old as me? is it worth it? || 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan Review

  • This is my review of my Infiniti 2003 g35 after 15 years of it being on the road, is it really worth it and does it meet the needs of 2017? In short I definitely think it does! This is a great car for those who are looking for a budget car that gives you power and comfort but is still capable of giving you an engaging drive. I highly recommend test driving one if you are considering a budget but sporty and luxurious car.
    One thing that I did not mention in the review, this is an amazing car to have if you want to turn it into a project build because of the parts that are available throughout the Nissan lineup and other aftermarket parts. With the styling of the car to me it will age well for many more years to come.
    For everyday driving around the harsh streets of East Toronto, this car does a great job handling those imperfections while still giving the driver great feedback through the hydraulic assisted steering.

      +Bassin_ with_John sweet and yeah it's an awesome first car! Something that I recently found out on certain models I think, the rear seats recline. Under the seatbelt connector, there is a plastic lever, if you pull that up and the rear seats should recline. It's for the outside two seats. Not the middle one

    Those cars are very reliable. If you planning on buying one, inspect it well. They only burn oil if you abuse them so be sure to avoid the abused ones. I had one from 2003 with 230k miles on it and it still runs like new.

      Bought mine , an 04 with 199k, and I immediately came here, like I do with other things, to find out what's bound to fail, mods,etc. I've already changed the tail lights to stock, put on a matching driver's side headlight assembly, and a few other things. I plan to put on a set of wheels from a 35x that I took off from a car at a junkyard that are stock. Basically this is my project car, since I'm a car nut, that I can tinker around with.

    cool to hear someone who Loves their car and has a blast driving it and didnt have to spend a fortune to have fun.. so many people these days spending 30,40 ,50k for a freakin car! here u are spending 1k and some work and u like what u have! thats cool bro!...i have a 24 yr old probe gt ,bought new in 94 , i still own it and its probably worth 1k but its a nice car!

    • @taishere557
      @taishere557  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely! I mean if you have the money go for it go for the big buys! lol however when it comes down to vehicles, as long as when you are walking away from it, you look back and like what you see. Thats all that matters. Also when you are driving it, you enjoy every moment of that drive. It really does not matter about what you are driving but rather the act of driving itself

    I own a coupe. A 2003 G35 model. I love it! Yes the paint on spoiler is fading a little and in some areas it’s showing its age, but it’s super reliable and fun. For my I prefer the coupe version, but your sedan is also very nice.

      Yeah the oil is the main concern, however at least it's not like the 2009-2013 Audi 2.0L engines, those you have to put a liter a day at least when it starts burning oil!

      Tai'sHere it got hit on the driver side replaced fender, headlight, hood, bumper and core support, rod compression, lower control arm. A little over-budget than I anticipated but the Black on Black with 6 Speed Sedan was too good for me to pass up hard to find 4 Door Sedans with MT these days.
      Pricing wise I feel the V35/Z33 has bottomed out during this period. Give it a couple years or two many will discover the hidden gem of this FM platform.

She is also a very meticulous car owner, so this car has had all of its maintenance done. Now I've always liked the car, but had never driven it, until a few days ago. What does the Ecu do?

    • @400Redsport
      @400Redsport 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing unless it was a tuned ECU But to put a stock Z ecu in then tune it would be pretty counterproductive since you can just tune the ECU in the G with the same software, also unless it was an automatic with awd the "rwd" in "rwd 6mt swap" isn't really part of the swap. lol though I feel you and I'm sure your G is dope, I also have a 4.5 6mt, and it's a beast. Just put a new motor in and all kinds of other parts, so I know that 6mt swap was a challenge haha.

    I just found a local 2003 G35 sedan w/ 157k miles for $2100 out the door. Service history showed frequent oil changes. When I started it up for the first time, the valve train rattled a lot. After I drove it, the engine was nice and quiet. I think it's the most powerful car I've ever driven, lol. I took a chance on it anyway and signed the line.

    Looking at buying a 2004 and your video helped a lot. Appreciated all of the negatives as well as the positives that you mentioned. Seems brakes are a constant issue with this model. I'm hoping that the gas mileage is a little better than you suggested as that seemed kinda low. All in all a great video. I liked it better when you didn't have your sunglasses on doing the review.

    You didn’t talk about the radio the third brake light the trunk light and the three fuse box that is pain comes with it,the radio alone cost a fortune to fix unless you have time to remove all the dash cover along with it and the shift knob,engine are powerful enough to get v8’s attention with a right driver and the tone are one of the best stock or aftermarket full exhaust kit and those door lines are still hot and very. Ice led tailights for 2003 are phenomenal with rear wheel drive or all wheel drive,it’s a complete all weather condition car or just a track used while not breaking the bank now but before it’s lil pricey,one of the reason I got this is has bulletproof transmission abuse or babied that transmission will hold until the first engine leak and dropped,oh and the hub and bearing don’t forget to chance every 2-3 years and the pads and brakes bites like it’s the end of the road overall I never seen a car like this to dropped 27k again soon ---new---- unless it’s another Infiniti or Nissan 😄

I drive mine every single day and here and there I'll do some donuts and rev the fuck out of it. It's a very reliable engine if you keep up with maintenance.

    I've been driving my 2004 G35 with the Journey package in the same color as yours for over a decade and I love it. I just put on new tires and it absolutely transformed the ride and I had Michelin Primacy MXVs on it before. If you want a smoother and quieter tire that still does everything else too look no further than the Pirelli Cinturato P7 all season plus ii. They are phenomenal. And I paid a third of what the Michelin Primacy cost me. My G35 has the 17" 6 spoke wheels which I like a little better than the 5 spokes on yours. Great looking car. Mine doesn't have the rear spoiler and frankly I think rear spoilers should be used sparingly and the G35, at least the first generation looks better without it. The next car I aspire to own that I also think ages well is the Lexus SC430.

    Dope review bro. had 2 of the g35x/s (07 & 08) just sold it and i'm about to buy a q50 '2017. AMAZING CARS!..... but def prefer the 07/08 over the older models. Older models interior looks just so old and i hate that orange dashboard!

      Thank you for the support! With the next generation body? If so, yeah they were pretty good looking, especially the interior! Huge upgrade!! For the sedan especially but i think they kinda messed with proportions for the coupe for the 07-15. It looked a little too rounded in my opinion but still nice especially if you modified it and put your own taste to it!
      And the q50's look amazing too! What about the new q60? What do you think about them? I personally love the look but I'm kinda skeptical about the drive by wire system... where is kinda like driving in a video game. Like I loved the hydraulic steering in the older generations because of the weighting and predictability of it but the electronic and simulated steering might just take away from the driving feel. I know they are pushing for the future where it will be semi autonomous driving but I'm just kinda skeptical!

      I can imagine, California has had a huge demand for older G35's for its tune ability and robustness which might have led a lot of them either getting into accidents or them not being sorted and either catching on fire or just straight dying. The value of them are starting to hold especially the manuals! It's a decent price for 112k miles! Enjoy!!

      Tayshon Harrell First have a mechanic look over it. Make sure it DOESN'T BURN OIL. You don't want to deal with that, it may burn a tiny amount if you drive hard. That's normal. Make sure the mechanic does a pressure test on the cylinders, if it's all good. Buy it.

    I’m going to see this 2003 g35 brembo brakes all that, never winter driven no rust, going to get the inspection and hopefully it passes everything. It only has 135 000km with 2 owners. He wants 8500 CAD $ and is not negotiable at all. I think it’s a great deal but a lot of people are saying don’t spend that much money on a 15 year old car it’s gonna break parts are expensive, it has transmission and oil burning problems blah blah blah. What’s your honest opinion?

    • @taishere557
      @taishere557  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's pretty good for the mileage, if the owner is able to drop it to 8k flat that would be awesome and yeah upgraded brake kit! However I would highly recommend take it to a mechanic to have them look at the mechanical aspects to it, if they can run a combustion test as well to see how the engine is that would be beneficial for you. If they cannot just look for leaks in the engine, though I dont see that being an issue with the mileage. Ask the owner if there were any performance mods on it before as well.

    just bought one an hour ago in san fran: 2003 with 91k miles, so thats about 140k kilometers. ive for the most part despised j cars, but when i moved to Japan in 2001, that was the first year of that design and i thought Nissan did an amazing job with the design. the bumps that you see on the edges as you drive, reminds me of the austin cambridge and morris minors and wolsleys of my youth in jamaica. and I was impressed with the handling when i drove it an hour ago. I just moved back from japan a month ago, where I had (still do) a 2000 bmw e46. And to my surprise, the Nissan skylne (fuck that infinity G35 bullshit) damn near feels like my 3 series bm. only problem is, the learning curve. Now, im gonna have to learn about this car. my very first Japanese car. yeh, not bad for 4 grand. its in immaculate condition. i only will make one modification: will have to change the red rear turn signals to amber. fuckin' hate that north american red turn signal crap, since i was a five year old kid in jamaica.

    • @taishere557
      @taishere557  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome your first Japanese car! Honestly its a really good option for those who are getting into the Japanese market. I absolutely agree, Nissan had a certain type of understated look. Subtle but effective in my opinion. Like personally I love Aston Martins for that very reason! Subtle but effective lol
      With a couple mods definitely can feel amazing, what i love most is that steering feel, its not too heavy as BMW 3 series' but perfectly balanced. 4 Grand is actually a really good price for one in great condition!
      As for the turn signals, not much we can do outside of darken them lol at least without getting a ticket :P
      Enjoy the car!

      Depends, does everything check out? Like its mechanically in good condition and there are no leaks or anything then yeah I would say that 2700 is fair but you should be able to negotiate it down to 2300 or so

    So when inspecting the car before I buy it, you said in order to tell if it's burning oil is to rev the engine high and see if smoke with a blue tint comes out? Are there any other ways to check? Thanks and keep up the great work!

    • @taishere557
      @taishere557  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Armend Berisha that is the easiest check, other than that all I know is you might smell it coming out of the exhaust. If it's in the later stages, I think it might come up as an error code when scanning the engine with an obd sensor.
      And thank you for the support!

    I'm in my last year of high school and would defenly choose this as my first car if possible ( going through insurance rates, maintenance and all that BS). IMO it's not that these cars are getting old, it's just the cars these days are "evolving" way too damn fast, somehow in a bad way. Looking back in the 90s and 2000s, a car exterior design could be used for more than 3 years. And even some manufactures did change their car looks a year or two, they'd make sure to come up with some advanced designs every time, like useful new features. But now car manufactures change their exterior designs way too frequently that they bring up (useless)new stuffs almost every damn year while the ones they brought up last year are still in use. And eventually they just run out of ideas, and this results in those overhyped easily forgettable car exteriors with those pointless curves and gills that would make a 250 HP family sedan looks like a 400+ HP performance car, and a bunch of electronics that are almost like telling the owners "Oh you don't even have to learn how to drive, we'll do it all for you!" SMH. Cars like the G35 just benefits me, useful DD and also a little sporty without a overhyped look. At least I could be sure that I still know how to use the steering wheel and the pedals underneath 10 years from now :P

    I checked out one yesterday but it had 2 problems.
    1. The coolant in the radiator was rusty but not in the overflow tank.
    2. When I turned the car on the radio came on and wouldn’t turn off, the controls worked but the radio was still playing

    • @taishere557
      @taishere557  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm that might mean that the circulation might have a problem from the overflow tank to the radiator or they just put in coolant in the tank.
      For the radio, might just be the button for the off is jammed however I find most change out the radio for something a little more connected, like a double din head unit with like bluetooth and USB inputs

    Hey Tai, loved the review. It's a great car to drive. Mine is a 2006 G35 sedan and I have a question for you. My rubber roof trim (roof ditch) on passenger side running from front windshield to rear windshield blew off the car. Driver side a bit loose midway. Dealer replacement is too high, around $200, can't seem to find it anywhere cheap. Any thoughts? I think it's part 73854AL510. Btw, how many miles on your G35? I've got 92000 and had it since 2008, will keep mine till it starts costing more than $2000 per year to repair. (so far so good) Let me know on the rubber roof strips, and thanks for sharing the video.

      +Kish Mirtuches thank you for the support! Really appreciate it. Are you close to the Toronto area by Any chance? I know a few shops that specialize in aftermarket parts if not if you know any definitely a good place to check out. You could also see if a scrap yard might have it but I'm not exactly sure how it comes out, if it's a onetime install or not. From looking at mine it seems like it should not be a one time install you might just need fasteners on as well as the rubber strip. I found one that is a little cheaper but not significantly I'll leave a link below.
      At the moment I have about 248,000 km or about 154,300 miles at the moment and I drive a lot on my cars last year I put about 45,000km in a year so 27,900miles in a year. This year it's been a lot lighter because work does not require me to drive around as much anymore so I'm light on the drive on this now
