Piotr Lipson I came here to comment this exactly. The vent is over the CPU, the biggest thermal output in the phone. so it’s not at all fake or useless especially when you use the included fan attachment. Sometimes when I watch his videos I wonder if he uses any common sense.
@@ShitShowShawn I think he means that Asus is marketing the visable copper as active direct cooling. It's seems though that the surfacearea on the metal between the CPU and the vent is a bit small. Why not fill the hollow space with aluminum or copper fins? At the moment, the included fan only makes my fingers cold cause there's no heatsink helping (I live in a cold dark place). If Asus bothered to punch a big hole in the phone, they could have at least filled it with something else than thin air. My guess is that it's the issue "Jerry" is referring to. I'm thinking of modding the vent. With some DIY, I can make it really disspate heat.
@@EyesOfByes just use the 4x4cm ceramic ball bearing fan and set it at 15000 rpm will reduce the heat much more than fancy rog and it cost less than $5
I have this exact same phone and i have to say, it's bloody amazing. Yes, it doesn't have an amazing camera by any means but it gets the job done nicely. Those who are into professional photography or somewhere along those lines, should just go for an iphone right off the bat. Where shall i start? The battery? Its awesome. The longest It has lasted over 2 days on average usage for me on a single charge. You know, the basic stuff like texting, watching TH-cam, browsing the web, etc etc. Do keep in mind that if you want longer battery life, keep the screen at 60Hz. That's the only compromise which is not a big deal if you ask me. The 6000 mAh battery charges from 2% to 100% in less than an hour and BOOM, you have 2 days worth of usage before needing to charge once more. The screen? Beautiful. Up to 120Hz of pure buttery- smooth awesomeness. Colors are sharp and vibrant and the screen gets really bight too if you max the slider out. Built quality? Amazing. Solid as a rock. Guess what? There is a headphone jack too! Who wouldn've thought! (The latest ROG phone 3 doesnt have it anymore though which is a damn shame. That's one of the dealbreakers for me. I wanted to trade my ROG Phone 2 for it) Its a damn good phone overall. However, there is another downside. It ain't water resistant so don't even think about getting it near any water. Trust me. Bad idea! If you're a mobile gamer or just a person who'd like to have an amazing phone, the ROG phone 2 could be for you. Yes, it's design is a little too flashy for some people and that's understandable but if you dont mind the design, its phenomenal. Take my word for it!
I paid $1200 for the ASUS ROG Phone I before it went mainstream and then I saw that video later on in life where he broke it apart and found the heat sink slits on the back were just for looks. I wasn't a happy camper. I bought the 512GB version. At least with the ASUS ROG Phone II, the heat sinks are real, the screen is 120Hz instead of 90Hz, you get 2000mAh more battery capacity, and 4GB more RAM. You also pay less for twice the capacity (1 TB) and faster storage speed at UFS 3.0 (23.2Gbps - 11.6Gbps write/11.6Gbps read) - more than enough storage speed to saturate my Netgear XR700 802.11ad bandwith that comes with built-in 802.11ad wireless. The ASUS ROG Phone I storage speed was UFS 2.1 (2.1Gbps - 850Mbps read/250 Mbps write) - not enough storage speed to saturate 802.11ad 60GHz 4.6Gbps wireless speeds.
Samsung and Apple's flagships provide overall best phone ,,they can put a 6000 mah battery but the phone will become heavy and would hurt your hand if you use your phone single handedly more,but they are removing headphones jack so they can sell their wireless earphones more..

Just finished watching this on my 3 months old Rog 2 phone and my heart aches when you opened it, and I think I had a mild stroke when the screen cracked, I stopped for a bit to take a breather then resumed because I was curious on what's inside my phone
Graphene display FTW baby....Strange that no manufacturer, neither Nokia who was early on nor Samsung with its GIANT stash of cashe managed that yet. Maybe they do too much money on screen protectors to even wanting to releast such (nowadays OLD) tech. Same thing with graphene batteries, they exist...but why not in smart phones? I wasn't nervous about the waterproofing until I realized just how little of it the phone has. I'm glad I haven't dropped it in water for the 8 months I've had it.
It’s because most phones are only a small upgrade from its past ones.. The 8 is probably the best phone from its year and keeping up with present phones, there really isn’t a reason to upgrade for him until the technology is a lot better.. Plus he’s after more than just features, he wants to be able to easily take his phone apart and make repairs.. Some people just aim for one certain thing in a smart phone but he wants everything.

Could you do a tear down for the volume buttons? This phone has MASSIVE issues with the volume and power buttons getting stuck completely, every owner of this phone could relate to this.
The opening of the vent is actually designed for the accessorie vent that comes up with the phone for free ! Otherwise i don't think asus will compromise the water resistance for nothing!
Good day Jerry, just wondering if you will also try this with the actual Asus ROG phone 2. By the looks of it you have bought the Trencent Game edition (cheap chinese market version). These are not the same phone at all. The cheap chinese version doesn't cool good at all I had it and shipped it back, now I have bought the actual one in Germany. I figure if you tare down an actual Asus ROG 2 you will see different things. I'm very curious what the differences are on the inside as the outside looks identical.
@@SmoochyRoo I learned the actual ROG2 has cat20/cat18 cabling and advanced wifi signal protocol .d instead of .c, allowing faster downloading/uploading speeds, also better quality storage ssd, so starting apps etc. Is way faster.
well the 8gb ram version AKA Tencent version truly a poor man's ROG II. even vapor in that copper is absent. i guess my decision taking the Ultimate version(12gb/1TB) worth it. just make sure u take the 512gb version at least

@@samuelkurniawan1383 first,no need to say sorry,second,it actually depends on what type of user you are, rog 2 is a phone that have big memory with cheaper price,bigger battery (though 120hz smooth af but it consumes alot of energy,even 6000mah is like 60hz 4000mah),the camera is kinda of medium level,not too bad not too good,it has aeroactive cooler II,it really helps you when you're playing games that wasting energy and especially when you turned on X mode (extreme )
Iphone 11,a more expensive phone with about 3000mah but it's not wasting energy that much like the rog 2,the camera,ios system and the A13 is the smooth when you're playing games too,ofc the cooling is not good as rog 2,if you are rich and you are not playing game often and you like taking photos,you should choose iPhone 11,choose rog 2 if you play games often or you just want a cheap high end device with smoother monitor

The opening of the vent is actually designed for the accessorie vent that comes up with the phone for free ! Otherwise i don't think asus will compromise the water resistance for nothing!

Good day Jerry, just wondering if you will also try this with the actual Asus ROG phone 2. By the looks of it you have bought the Trencent Game edition (cheap chinese market version). These are not the same phone at all.
The cheap chinese version doesn't cool good at all I had it and shipped it back, now I have bought the actual one in Germany. I figure if you tare down an actual Asus ROG 2 you will see different things. I'm very curious what the differences are on the inside as the outside looks identical.

@@SmoochyRoo I learned the actual ROG2 has cat20/cat18 cabling and advanced wifi signal protocol .d instead of .c, allowing faster downloading/uploading speeds, also better quality storage ssd, so starting apps etc. Is way faster.
well the 8gb ram version AKA Tencent version truly a poor man's ROG II. even vapor in that copper is absent.
i guess my decision taking the Ultimate version(12gb/1TB) worth it.
