My first car was a '67 mustang coupe with a inline 6 and a 3 speed on the floor. I was 15 years old. It was a hand me down from my sister and I drove the wheels off of it. Great fun and a great learning experience. My 2nd car was a '68 mustang with a 289ci and a 4 speed. I'm 57 now and this video really brought back some fantastic memories. Enjoy your car and drive the wheels off of it.
I love it when people use old cars as daily drivers, it's not on the same level as a Mustang but i have a 1964 Volvo Amazon that i use as a daily driver and i love it. Old cars have souls, which newer cars don't really have.
Awesome car bro. Most people dont understand why these cars are so alluring. The grind. The putting in the hours of work into something that you enjoy. These days if a person enjoys something then theres something wrong with them. Im currently working on a 66 mustang on yr 2 and one day I was buying some supplies from a parts store and the clerk asks me what im working on. I tell him its a 66 and he says" Its my dream to work on one sir". Well have a good day and God bless

the reason people like myself like it and say " Don't change anything " is because it's honest. you can beat on it get a paint chip a dent, and all it takes is a can of primer and fixed as easy as that. I had a car in the same way and that's why I loved the thing.
I did the same thing. I have a 65 Mustang coupe. Took a 302 engine and AOD transmission from a 1995 Mustang...but just to be safe, I had them both immediately rebuilt before installing into the engine bay (and added extra goodies like aluminum heads, etc), better safe than sorry. I had a carburetor setup, but over time, I switched to a Holly Sniper EFI set up, it starts and drives great...it’s now a reliable daily driver. Thanks for the awesome video.

Love the video Chase! My first 6 cars and trucks and motorcycles were standard shift. I hated automatics in the 1980'-1990's. I loved being involved in the driving of the vehicle. No coffee mug in a console. Always moving the legs and arms. I felt more alert in a standard shift. Actually got exercise while driving. Now, I zone zone out and eat and drink in the car and am a slug!

Extremely relatable, as I too have a '67 coupe that I'm going in the exact same Trans-Am inspired direction with. Awesome to see someone else enjoying the same situation I've got on my hands for all the same reasons, and also someone that's understanding that "life happens" and not everyone finishes a rotisserie restoration in 6 months. Nice mustang. It is so nice to be able to develop a history with a car and make it your own. The classic first generation mustang is timeless and they deserve to be driven and restored to working order. I hope someday you can look back on all the different eras this car had in it’s different configurations and appreciate the fact that it always puts a smile on your face.

You definitely have a passion for the car. I feel the same about my 68 mustang I've owned for 41 years. Its bone STOCK, my preference, understand lots of guy like to go your route and that's ok if it doesn't lead to the demise of the vehicle. Mines an early 68, built in 67, San Jose plant. Purchased in palm Springs California in December 67.. 289 auto, power steering, factory ac , 4 wheel drums.and has the optional turn signals in the hood. in extremely original condition, original engine, transmission, body all original except front bumper replaced in 81. Its in really great condition. And I still love taking it out couple times a month for a few days. Its still living in Palm Springs so it still has its original black and yellow plates. About 15 years ago I saw a really trashed 68 at the grocery store and noticed the plate was off from mine by 1 digit! They must have both been sitting there together when new lol. But was sad to see that one looking so awful, and mine looking nearly new. keep plugging away with your project till you're satisfied. It will be awesome.and will give you great pride in the final result.
I love what you said at the end about everyone driving a car like this. I started driving in 1972 and all I could afford was old junk. Sloppy steering, bias ply tires, drum brakes. You knew it was going to dive when you git the brakes hard. You just didn't know which way. These cars made us better drivers. Modern cars make it too easy.
I bought a 64 Falcon not to long ago. It has a 427 sohc under the hood. Turns out it is a factory road race car. I would love to drive down that road you were on with it.

I had a 1967 Camaro that was pretty much the same. I bought it in 1987. It was primered and beat, never had a headliner. I swapped engines, transmissions, rear ends, replaced the poisitraction, upgraded the front suspension to disk brakes and polyurethane bushings, rebuilt the four speed, swapped the Muncie for a Tremec five speed, swapped the steering box for a fast ration one from an IROC Camaro, swapped the seats for ones from an 80s Camaro, then swapped those for a set of Recaros, upgraded the headlights to a set of Hellas with high power bulbs - on and on it went. I had many expensive parts sitting in boxes, and 2019 was going to be a breakthrough year, but then it was destroyed in the Camp Fire. R.I.P. - 1967 to 2018.

Great job. Love your car and I share your passion for the mustang. I've had my 67 for 22 years and bought it in college. All out restomod is the way to go. It looks the same and drives so much better. I beat my brothers new GT350 in autocross so these cars can be made to perform.

Nice work. I had a 70 with a 302 that I trans am'd. Definitely the way to go. Genius engine and brake swap. The stock Mustang brakes of that period were abysmal.

Left him with his sweet V12 ohc in his mind...and wished him a good day. I like your trans am styled coupe.. Id do a cross between an Eleanor and a Shelby "coupe" Ive always loved the fast backs But they have gone out of reach.. Chance I'll give you a chance. Yeah, it's a pretty loud car inside. Road noise, exhaust drone, some wind noise, I'm honestly surprised the audio came out as clean as it did! Nature of old cars. Glad you enjoyed it otherwise!
open differential saved me many times from losing both wheel traction on leaving turns, still had one wheel to hold the car in line . probably where 90 % of u tube car show show off accidents originate.
Had a really nice cool little shop in Hayward. His youngest son is carrying on the passion in Livermore Ca. You actually kinda in a way remind me of him. Maybe thats why his car is blue. Im running a similar set up except with Maier parts. Im also going with his full length subs and panhard kit. My car is in primer like yours. After listening to your video I think Im going to teach my daughters how to drive in my 65 for all of the reasons you mentioned. I wrestle with the idea of paint but Id rather put that in suspension performance that I can feel. I love that video and car. Oh yeah my project is on jackstands for your other previous reasons. One last thing, where are you located? Gorgeous background.
I would love to do Maier suspension on mine. I wish he made a more traditional 3-link rear as an alternative to his crazy-cool but uber-expensive pushrod style one. Glad you liked the video! @@Rabidus289 There's a lot of debate on if it is any better than a stock style setup. I'm sure by now there are plenty of well setup options available but it is the only way you can get rid of the shock towers to fit the WIDE modular motors.
I like seeing budget bulids like this, most classic american cars are either high dollar builds or set up for drag racing. no one builds American cars for road racing.

Thanks! We're being pretty broad about defining classics but generally speaking we are talking anything older than 1990ish.

My 03 GT doesn't leak oil. I love the old Trans Am cars. Nice beast you have there.

TMI has the seat foam and seat upholstery that you want, i put them in my 64.5 mustang and they are the bomb.
russellfheim I'm going to get their Pro Viper Jr seats. Can't use the original style ones safely with a 5 point harness.

Isn't the Mustang 2 suspension considered very poor for handling?
@@Rabidus289 There's a lot of debate on if it is any better than a stock style setup. I'm sure by now there are plenty of well setup options available but it is the only way you can get rid of the shock towers to fit the WIDE modular motors.
