      Hey Mike, it’s a super rewarding adventure converting these cars.
      I am doing a video in the summer using the coupe inner structures with a panel bridge that I make. You can convert the sheet metal from the coupe to the fastback for about $2k. I’ll publish a guide, make parts available, and do a video series… it’s going to be epic.

    You are correct, some buyers will NOT care that the car was once a coup. I have a 68 coup and would never convert it because it is way too good shape. But paying stupid amounts of money for a real fastback is up to the buyer, be my guest if that is your desire in my view.
    Also people are stupid, there will be guys out there that will create what I call "paint job cars" they will paint over rust, do shit body work that will look good for the first 5 months after painted. NO, do your own work, create your own value. Your series will do well for those who can !

    I HAD A 1965 CONVERTIBLE MUZZ ,,, BUT,,, I WANTED TO MAKE A FASTBACK HARD TOP FOR IT
    WELL SMALL PROBLEM YOU CANT OPEN THE BOOT HAHA , BUT GOT OVER IT,
    IT JUST PLAIN OLD SAT ON THE BODY WITH SOME CORVETTE HARDTOP PINS ETC AND LOCKED ON
    I HAD TO MAKE (ADJUST) THE VETTE (C3 ) HARD TOP TO FIT ,,, USING THE OLD MUZZ FASTBACK WRECK I BOUGHT FOR ,,,EEEEEEEK £400, NOT EASY BUT I DID IT,
    I SHAPED THE HARD TOP TO A FASTBACK STYLE (THE VETTE TOP IS METAL) , AND TRIMMED IT (ITS MY JOB)
    AND ADDED THE REAR WINDOW FROM THE OLD STANG (CHOP A BIT OFF HERE AND THERE,)
    THE FRONT OF THE HOOD WAS HINGED SO YOU COULD LIFT AND PROP THE TOP OPEN, SO YOU COULD OPEN THE BOOT (TRUNK) AND FASTEN IT DOWN WITH NASCAR HOOD PINS , SO WHY DIDNT I USE THE OLD FASTBACK WRECKED ROOF, THINKING ABOUT IT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER, BUT WAS OFFERED MONEY FOR THE OLD MUZZ AS IT WAS (WINDOWLESS) BUT PRETTY BENT
    I SOLD IT 12 YEARS LATER FOR £30,000 ,(WELL CHUFFED) AND IT TURNED UP IN PALE BLUE WITH STRIPES , AND FETCHED 120,000 DOLLARS IN USA
    AND IT SAID
    THE ONLY ONE OFF SOFT TOP FASTBACK MUSTANG IN THE WORLD ,,, PHEW , ITS DO ABLE , TRY IT
    THIS WAS BACK IN THE 80'S, THERES A SOFT TOP NEAR WHERE I LIVE ,ALL IN BITS 7 GRAND AND RUSTLESS,,,,,,SHOULD I DO IT AGAIN)?????????YES
    BUT THIS TIME ILL BUY THE FASTBACK KIT THEN IT WILL BE A DODDLE ,

    I understand what he’s saying and I like his videos and appreciate what he’s doing, but here in the western states, you’re not finding good condition coupes for $2,700. Furthermore, the interior parts for a fastback conversion are another $3,000-$4,000. We converted my brothers 67, it’s easy to do, but he spent $8k on a coupe six banger, then another $9-$10k to do the complete conversion (interior and exterior). It is definitely cheaper than buying an original, but do your homework, based on my experience it’s not as cheap as it sounds, and unless you are in a large metro that has a big classic car appetite, selling old mustang parts from the coupe isn’t that easy.

    • @ScottHarness1
      @ScottHarness1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can build a fastback for much less. Especially the coupe purchase. I just did a quick search of market place and found five coupes $2500 or less. They were In Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas. You can source a complete interior for a Fastback less the front seats for under $1500. You can spend as much as you want but there are ways of spending much less. For instance you can use your coupe interior and just add the vent panels. The numbers I used were real numbers and what I actually spent. I have helped dozens of people do the same. I do agree on doing the homework part.

    I have a 68 coupe with a front left frame rail that’s rotted out and be been wanting to covert it to a fast back but would it be any easier to buy a more modern roller and swap the body?

    • @ScottHarness1
      @ScottHarness1  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The body swap in to a modern chassis in my opinion is much more difficult and specialized. People have done it but the newer Mustangs are both wider and different wheelbases as well. Not to say it can't be done it can, but you need to be prepared for the process.

      Let's say I want to buy a car, any car. I should be able to go to the DMV, with the vin of the car. Ask the DMV who the owner is. But you can't. This is nuts.
      If I want to buy a car, and it has a plate, I should be able to find out information on the car that way, but I can't either.
      Now if I was a cop, I can run the plate.
      Well, if you have a friend who's a cop, he may run the plate for you.

    • @varun009
      @varun009 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jesse75 well, I don't really like the idea of random citizens getting my personal information from my plates. However, when it comes to getting cars and especially bikes, the original owners are long gone and the people who have the bike bought it from their next of kin for scrap. Finding the next of kin is one thing but then convincing them to produce the evidence required to have the title transfered to their name and subsequently yours which costs a lot of money and you'll likely have to give them financial Compensation for their time and effort. Finally, you'll have little left at that point to do anything. Easiest thing to do is just find a car with a title or try to pass it off as a custom build and get it registered separately.

    • @jesse75
      @jesse75 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@varun009 let's say I see you. You did something shady, or I just wanted to know.
      I followed you. You go into your house. I can go to the county register and find out your name, or who owns the house.
      Anyone can do that.
      There's no privacy like you think.
      I'm with you about privacy about a car. Maybe it shouldn't be possible for everyone to go around checking on each other. But maybe it's a good thing ?
      I understand curtilage law also.
      You would think I'd be the other way around.
      Where nobody gets to know who's living in the house, but the car is out in public.
      I don't like the fact, that if anyone has the address to my house, they can look inside and see the layout because it's widely published in real state websites and can find out who lives there.
      Inside my house and yours should be private. But it isn't.
      Sorry for the read. I was in the country. Saw some vacant property. Went down. Found the owner. Wrote him a letter stating how I found his name and address. He sold me the property.
      My friend sold me a dirt bike. Had a plate. Found out the address of the owner. Send him a letter. Told him how I got his address. Told him I would send him and pay him what was needed to get the title.
      He sent me the title.
      What's the big deal ? Let's say I want to buy a car. Sure the guy has the title, but shouldn't I just be able to go to the DMV and see if it's been stolen ?
      I know where a couple of old dusty cars are. Should be able to go to DMV and find out who owned the cars.
      I can go down and trace back all the history of a house, it's on micro fish, but you can't on a car ?
      Marti report is just like a birth certificate.

I am planning to stay in Canada for a year to build an Eleanor based on the first generation Mustang Coupe and bring it to Korea. The budget is $50,000. Currently I am watching a lot of restoration videos and getting motivated. Thank you for your great videos.

    Being the owner of a real fb that I recently restored I find this topic interesting. I agree with everything you have said in this video except that you failed to rake in to account all of the unique fb parts that you would need to acquire for the conversion that you likely would already have with the real fb. Glass, window trim, interior pieces, etc. Not needing any of this for my car I'm not sure what all this would cost but it has to added to the cost. What do you think it would cost to completely finish one of these conversions?

    • @ScottHarness1
      @ScottHarness1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most if the sub $20k Fastbacks I find have tons of missing parts. It’s hit or miss how much glass or interior there will be at that price point. Just looked at a 1967 FB that was $18k no glass, one door missing, no interior no front fenders, rusted rear quarters. The valuation of FB’s is on the rise. That makes the conversion even more of a good idea. As far as completing the car It really depends on the builder. If the builder wants to really try to do a fastback clone they can but so many who go this route aren’t trying to make a duplicate fastback as much a having the fastback body style and modify the rest. Most want a fastback that they can drive and not be in a car that $50k and up. For me I’m doing a very modified car with tons of modern components. My objective and budget is finished and driving for under $20k.

    Good video, but why do so many Mercans have verbal diarrhoea? How many times can you say the same thing over and over before wanting to shoot yourself in the face? The constant repetition infers that the producer thinks the audience is so stupid, they can't get the message without repeating it many times. Or, its a question of the producer's own intelligence, that he possibly didn't notice his own repetition. Either way, it's unnecessary. A good video but it could have been half as long - and better - without the waffle.
