Questions! Firstly, what is the name of the pin on the belt buckle? Mine broke off because it was stepped on :-( The belt buckle means a lot to me. Can I just do the same thing to reattach the pin? OR will it not be strong enough soldering? The material is stainless steel.
Stainless is not something you can solder to, it needs proper welding at much higher temperatures. tin/lead solder will not bond to stainless at all. I'm not sure of the official terminology for the retaining pin I'm afraid.
@@wyatt5770 the one i used uses a propane-butane mix. It's a bit undersized for the job, I habe a slightly bigger one, but was concerned it would overheat stuff, i don't do this very often, I'm probably not the best source of advice
@@TheAussieRepairGuy I need to reattach a metal clip to a pewter guardian angel for my sister in law (it slides onto the car's sun visor) Do you think this would hold, I was going to epoxy it but I like this idea better.
@@gilmo1938 I think 8 revisited this a second time as it came away, it needed a lot of heat. 60/40 tin lead solder's melting point is close to pewter, so I would be very careful. I've used metal mend epixy before with is a putty with metal fibers in it, It's honestly a close call between methods.
I have a skull bones belt buckle, broke in same place your fixing. I've called all over but people act so above fixing a belt buckle.

I broke a silver belt buckle, how would you recommend going on and fixing that?
Silver solder and flux would be my goto, and be careful with the heat.
@@TheAussieRepairGuydo you recommend using a smaller butane torch like you used in the video, or a big propane one?

did you use flux either time?
Flux core solder.
