    Loved how Gaurav was able to listen to Sumukhi and admit that he may not have thought about the issue from that point of view! That's what we all need, to listen to opinions and analyze. Appreciate it a lot. :)

    My parents have the no questions asked policy as well. And it's been working beautifully.
    I'm a girl and I have an elder brother and I understand the difference in how our daughters and sons are treated. My brother can say 'bye I'm heading out' at 10pm and have to give no other information and come back next morning and my parents won't bat an eyelid. But for me it's different. However I also get why the difference in how my parents watch over me and how they watch over my brother. The situation is such, girls are more prone to being assaulted/harrassed/stalked/troubled etc. But instead of locking me up in the house, they explained it to me and they also came up with a way to handle it. It's this rule where they told me that 'you can do whatever your brother does but we need to know where you are at all times and with whom and how you are traveling to and from wherever you are going' They won't ask why I'm with the people I'm with or question why I'm going to a boy's house alone, a club, a shady bar at whatever hour I decide to. But THEY NEED TO KNOW.
    Who I am with
    How I'm traveling
    Where I am
    These three things they need to know.
    So I text them updates as and when needed. And thats that. I can do whatever I want and they can rest assured in knowing where I am at any given point of time in case I need any help.
    And if at all I feel like I need a ride back home because it's late and there's no one else who can drop me, I can wake up them up at any time and call them.
    And I have done that. On multiple occasions. Once cause everyone else was traveling in the other direction and I didn't feel like taking a favour from the people I was with. Once because I was too drunk and I didn't want to Uber it even though it wasn't late. And once simply because I wanted to leave earlier than the rest of the group.
    I think it's important that parents equip children with a good sense of judgement and help them in understanding and figuring out what they as an individual want so they don't make choices out of pressure or ignorance. So if I'm with a boy alone at 12am, they know it's because *I* want to be and I know what I'm doing and not because I'm coerced into it in any way. And also have an open relationship with the children where The PARENTS are the first people they call if they are in a tricky situation instead of trying to handle situations by themselves and get stuck even deeper and then also try to hide it from the parents.

    My (female) friend's mother was called to school and told : "is age mein attraction ho jata hai, apni beti ko sambhaliye!"
    Fortunately, my friend's mother, who was also a teacher, at our own school, came out of that meeting and laughed whole heartedly while narrating what transpired. Me and my friend meekly joined the laughter.
    Also, in the second grade, my mom was once called to the school because a girl, from my class, gifted me a new year card which had toddlers of the opposite gender, kissing. The headmistress got hold of it and complained that I should not have accepted such a card!! Fortunately, I got to bring home the card and also decorate it on top of the our TV, those bulky CRT ones we had back in those days.
    The incidents happened in 2 different ICSE schools in 2 different cities. I don't think things have improved much but this episode definitely did bring back some memories. :)

    I know Danny touched on this with his own anecdote about being called to the Principal's office for talking to girls, but there's also something to consider here that there's a heavier stigmatization on girl's talking to boys than the other way round. To go back to the headline, it was the girl who jumped off the 2nd floor because she was ostracized by the teacher, not the boy; and it would probably never happen to the boy..

    No one in tier 2 tier 3 cities will ever think about purchasing Sabyasachi Mukherjee. There are local designers here who copy his looks. Yahan sabyasachi and Manish Malhotra ka copy bikta 😝 also, what Gaurav Kapur said is right. Mostly people work with cash here. You should see the local businesses. They always find a way to evade tax. It's irritating.

    • @som874
      @som874 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, evading taxes but still, most of the people aren't really carrying bags of cash, not even in the metros/tier 1 cities.
      Also, whenever anybody talks of carrying cash, that "Narendra Modi wants to know your location" alert pops up. :D :D :D

      @lifeofacloud1102 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Somanshu Katiyar haha. Trust me they are. I am from bbsr, Odisha, my friends who own businesses generally carry cash if it's a huge amount. It's a common practice.

      Just about cash thing...so what do u want ha? To open swiss bank account to evade tax like politicians? Well the minimum balance threshold is still so high so no chance.

    • @lifeofacloud1102
      @lifeofacloud1102 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      surbhit mathur what I want is people being honest and paying up taxes because there are plenty of us who are. And no, we don't want to be corrupt and save some penny. More accountability of how tax money is spent and more and more people being honest of their earnings and paying taxes. I guess it's an utopian world I am talking about!

    Regarding the Sari issue, I do agree that it is so stupid. When I was in the UK, I have been asked many times like don't you wear sari every day in India. Even my friends asked me, will you wear sari after getting married. why I have been asked this kind of question and after living in 5 countries, I can guarantee you that this is how people here look at India. They still think that woman in India have right to choose their style until they get married and then they have to follow so-called social norms.

    I have all respect for teachers but they're also humans with flaws. And sometimes their words are so damaging . I remember i went to school once in a dress , and i was told by one of my teachers , who was also my best friend's mom that a lot of teachers discussed over how short it was . It was the first time i heard someone talk like this about my clothing . And it was humiliating . Even if they came up to me and said they considered it inappropriate i would'nt have felt that bad about it . Maybe they just cared for my safety in the school campus . But no ! They actually all gossiped in the staff room . And the dress was certainly longer than the normal length of our school skirts . It was an awful experience . Also being judged for hanging out with boys was an everyday thing . Got used to to it as i couldn't leave all these amazing friends becuase someone doesnt have a broad mindset . I remember once one of our teachers asked one of my guy friend to stay away from another friend who was a girl saying that she is chalu , has used many guys and wull will bring him trouble . And i know she's is literally the sweetest human on earth . These things are devastating to hear and so traumatising . Also degrades the teacher in our eyes forever

      Shrishty Vardhan this is honestly so relatable. I’m in delhi, studying in one of the best schools where kids of well respected families study, and here too this norm about short skirts exists.
      I have a friend who’s a great student, represents the school in various national and international competitions and conferences. She’s also really attractive and popular. Even though boy girl interaction isn’t a problem in our school at all, recently her skirt length was made a huge issue in school. She was in the line of becoming a school prefect, and the headmistress told her that her skirt length was too short, the next day onwards she started wearing a suit, so the headmistress asked her why she had a problem in wearing a longer skirt. Because of this issue only, she was removed from the prefectship list. She’s applying to Ivy League universities and this is probably gonna affect her application. Despite being a well established school, with a completely progressive mindset, such restrictions are still imposed on girls, while there is absolutely no kind of workshop for educating boys about sexism catcalling or harassment of girls.
      My point being you cannot weigh the credentials of a girl based on the length of her skirt

    • @sarvangdave3646
      @sarvangdave3646 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it must be so weird. Being a boy and someone who hasn't felt anything like it I find it less relatable though. But if that happens I can feel the awfulness of it. Actually it is the mindset of society which I find is the cause of the problem. And all we may be needing is a Comedian in a staff room....or maybe just a sensible person.

    Such a great episode! More power to you Daniel! As much as I love you and Gaurav, I do want to point out that both of you started mansplaining - it was painful to watch how pedantic both of you with literally telling Sumukhi what to do - "thank and move on". It was her question to answer. It started with you at 56:32 taking over with your story on Bill Hicks followed by Gaurav's explanation of how artists have influences - like Sumukhi didn't know that. Sumukhi barely spoke before the conversation meandered. You guys are fantastic but you gotta let the other person speak. Compare the seconds/moments of silence both you ad Sumukhi gave to Gaurav on his answer on sports vs. the courtesy you and Gaurav extended to SS.

    Watching all season 2 episodes again. Just a thought jumped, Daniel, you said at some point that someone did not like you talking with girls. What my question is, apne parents(elder ones) kya jealous feel karte hai when they see their young children talking openly with others(opposite sex people) thinking of their past from young age ki "bhe****d humne kabhi aise nahi kiya toh tu kaun hota hai?" or any other thought of same feeling.

    i remember when i was 11 my teacher called my mom saying i have a crush on a boy in my class and that if it continues, it'll lower my grades. im 17 now and ive been conditioned to think that what i did was wrong and as a result all my interactions with guys are generally awkward.

    Hey Daniel, Gaurav, Sumukhi, have you watched the TV series Wonder Years from a long time back? It shows so beautifully and comically what kids go through in their early teens... so many aspects shown so simply...
    Great to see you back with your series Daniel.. had been waiting for it for a long time :)
