I think Hill has a bad team around him. The fact that his coaches aren’t checking him is a bad sign. All the great fighter have a good team around them that gives honest feedback and keeps them grounded.. They also don’t bring in other coaches which is a huge red flag.

Most people, including me, have never been in such a humiliating moment as a first round knockout on a historic main event that was would be a glorious comeback and reclaim of the belt from your own eyes. Many of these fighters have tendencies to view themselves in a delusional way and it helps them succeed in their career but under extreme conditions a mind can do extreme things to protect itself. In short, he's coping.

Alex waived Herb off after Hill’s foot connected with AP’s cup (wherever it landed last, the hollow sound of a steel/ plastic cup is incontravertibly audible).
Herb called “time out”. Alex hopped **once** simultaneously *as* Herb was calling “time out”.
Herb then called “time in” and Hill and Alex formally reengaged by *tapping gloves* then hand fought twice before alex faked a right as Hill threw his first left straight which Alex slipped and deflected before countering with a left shovel cut.
There was appox 3-4 seconds of hand-fighting after tapping gloves for Hill to have refocused.
Alex won the handle-battle and foot position before the time out was called. Hill was check-mated fair and square.
In a championship title fight one should never lose focus even for a millisecond. There are *no* excuses, ever (least of all headlining a historic UFC 300 PPV titlefight).

Haven’t watched this as yet but I will say my reaction after the KO was that the attempted pause in the action was a bit of a distraction for Jahamal. Think about it. It wouldn’t be for Alex because he was pressuring and know his intent and knows if he’s hurt or not.
Hill however would’ve had to take eye off ball for a split since the infraction was on him, you automatically or instinctively kind of drop focus to address the infraction which is usually apologizing to opponent.
That split second was all that was needed and will ever be needed for someone like Alex.

WHEN THE REF CALLS A HALT. THE RULS SAY THAT THE FIGHTERS MUST APPROACH,AS A SIGNE OF RESPECT.
They don't say that though. They say the ref calls time and then ref ensures the fighter can continue and allows recovery time if needed and then assesses point deductions if necessary.
He called time. The action stopped. He determined by Alex's gesture that he was okay and didn't need time. He opted not to assess a deduction to Hill. He said continue. The fight resumed. It went 100% according to the rules.
