    I was at this game. I bought cheap nosebleeds tickets last minute met my buddy. Before the game there was a representative from Dbacks who offered us to move down in front of the 1st base side because Heineken the sponsor didn’t want there section to look empty on TV. So we ended up getting box seats and a free hat and t shirt which I still own and got to watch a no hitter. I didn’t even realize it was a nor hitter until the 7th inning because there had been a bunch of baserunners.

    Crazy story about this Gilbert guy. I once got into a Fortnite lobby with Dylan cozens (prospect for the Phillies) ended up playing with the dude every once in a while and one day he was like can i invite my boy Tyler. He was like “he’s a baseball player too and I’m telling you he’s gonna do something special one day” I’m immediately like hell yea and after that we didn’t play too much again. About 12-18 months later Tyler Gilbert threw a no hitter and I was like yooooooo.

    Another canidate for most unlikely no-hitter is Babe Ruth/Ernie Shore combined no-hitter in 1917. Babe Ruth walked the first batter of the game then punched the ump in the face and got ejected. Then Ernie Shore who probably wasn't expecting to pitch that day came in and threw 9 perfect innings.

    4 pitchers in MLB history have thrown a no-hitter in their first MLB start... 3 of them had made relief appearances before their first time starting a game.
    Bumpus Jones of the Cincinnati Reds threw a no-hitter on October 15, 1892, in his first major league game. And if you look at his baseball-reference page, he should have just walked away.

I remember Humber saying, "I didn't think I'd ever throw a complete game in the Majors, much less a perfect one," or words to that effect. I'd say this guy was more unlikely because it was his first start and he didn't really have no-hit stuff though. Shame he didn't become a great pitcher since.

    If a manager pulled him during that day, they should be fired and black balled from the league. If the pitcher says his arm is sore, or gives up a hit then you can replace him. But you don’t touch a no hitter, especially when the team has absolutely nothing to lose or win.

    It's a shame he's been awful since that season. 2021 being the year of the no-hitter was not impressive to me - as bad as MLB hitting has become it's a wonder we haven't had more no-hitters. Metrics (especially that bs "exit velocity" stat) have ruined what USED TO BE an ART FORM. Ted Williams is rolling over in his cryogenic tank watching Schwarber and Alonso both hit 40 homers while barely hitting .200 (and in Kyle's case .190) It seems like every talented hitter is going to the Dave Kingman "hit the ball harder and longer than everyone else" school. hitting the ball less than two time every ten at bats is NOT a science. It's baseball's way of "making the game more exciting". Atrocious hitting is NOT exciting.

    It's annoying hearing about how lucky he is because some balls were hit hard. Expected BA doesn't take into account fielders locations. I guarantee there's someone who actually got luckier. Someone who needed several spectacular plays made to conserve the no hitter. Not just some hard hit balls right at people. That's not being unlucky. Smh, all this expected crap is overrated. Balls hit right at people aren't unlucky outs. This is why 3 true outcomes won't stop spreading. We tell hitters to crush the ball, to not care about striking out and we say they got unlucky when they hit it right at somebody. Look at Arraez. He doesn't hit the ball "hard". You really think he's lucky and not just a great hitter. Baseball isn't some code. Analytics is getting ridiculous. I mean, the Yankees minor leagues story that just came out proves how crazy things have gone. I mean for fucks sake they banned hitting off a tee. Nerds who don't understand baseball telling athletes what to do. It's disgusting.

    • @Puruvian
      @Puruvian 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i agree somewhat, but its also the reason why pitchers like cristian javier or framber valdez are struggling, they give up hard hits and that will cost you. Also, the greatest hitter in history, Ted Williams, also believed that hitting the ball hard was the main goal when hitting, as did tony gwynn.
