The BIGGEST “WHAT IFS” in MLB Trade HISTORY? (Recent)

- When you think of Mariano Rivera you think of the Yankees, and more importantly the yankees' dynasty of the late 1990s and early 2000s, but what if I told you that he was extremely close to being a Mariner in 1996. And what if I told you that Ken Griffey was 15 minutes from becoming a New York Met. These "what if" trade scenarios could have changed the landscape of the major leagues for decades, but they failed to come to fruition.
If you've enjoyed this video I would appreciate a like and subscribe more than you would know!
You've read the constructive critism. But i want to give you your props. Great editing of clips. Ill subscribe!
I appreciate comments like this a ton!
Another what if is, wasn't for the fact that Ruben Rivera was Mariano's cousin, he wouldn't have been signed with the Yankees at all. Ruben was touted as a 5-tool player as a youngster but told the Yankees if they wanted him to sign with them, they need to look at his cousin and sign him to. Sort of like a League of their Own moment.
I’m working on a non trade what if video. Will definitely look into it. Thanks !
nice video but we gotta work on your speech and doing more than 1 take
@@4starcommander yea I got that for next video. Thanks for the feedback nonetheless though.
@@Schubesss Names are pronounced as Felix "Fermeeen," and John "Wet-land." Otherwise, excellent content! Appreciated!
Great video man! Love these types of videos. Keep it up and don’t slow down anytime soon!❤
Good work Buddy. Well done.
Nice job with this overall! Agree with the feedback given by others, but just wanted to add 1 more thing - make sure you double check your player facts :) Vlad Jr was 8 years old in 2007 haha - it was his dad, Vlad Sr who was with the Angels at the time :)
Enjoyed the video. Always liked MLB historical reflection videos. Keep up the good work.
Always good to have more baseball creators. You'll continue to work out the kinks. Just keep working.
Have never seen your videos prior. This was a great video info wise but like others have said slow down when recording or redo portions of the script/video. Either way a great video overall, and you have another sub :)
@@collinboyd5759 thanks for the great feedback! Just uploaded a new video working on pacing yesterday. Have another video in the works but it will take some time!
good video, once you change the way you speak you def will become the next MLB essay video person that blows up!
@@eddiemoney7538 if you liked this video I’m certain you’ll love my new video! Comes out Thursday @ Noon EST. I just got down the editing and am so excited for you guys to see it!
Ken Griffey Jr. going to the Mets was never a serious what-if. Beyond Griffey's emphatic statement about the Mets' demand for an answer in 15 minutes, there is the fact that he wasn't actually an Orlando kid. His family moved to Cincinnati when he was 3 years old, when his dad made his debut for the Reds. He considered Cincinnati to be his real home. He essentially forced Seattle to trade him to the Reds by making it known to every other club that he wouldn't play for them. That's why Cincinnati got him for what people at the time thought was a cheap price. In the long run, Griffey's huge contract combined with injuries and declining skills, plus Mike Cameron's emergence as the best defensive center fielder in the game, with a pretty decent bat, made some people feel like Seattle did better than the Reds in that trade.
Loved your spanish 👍😁
I don't think I would have given up Manny and Lester for A rod , Manny was huge for them in 04 and 07 and way clutch ! Lester was a key player in the 2007 title team
9:46
He would have been in the same lineup as Vladdy Sr.
Yea I noticed that error about a day after I posted this video but could not fix it at that point. There are a couple errors in this video, but I have tried to minimize them for future videos for sure.
Thanks for pointing this out !
Whatever you do please do not use AI to do voiceovers though, your diction could improve and that alone would make a huge difference imo, but your flow is pretty good and the content is great. Looking forward to the next video
@@JayMessinAround I really appreciate this comment a ton! I have no plans to do so as I enjoy using this as a way to get better at speaking in general. Next video is currently in the works, no ETA just yet though!
What if the 2018 brewers had given up Corbin burnes for Machado?
Glad the Sox didnt make that trade, Lester helped them win a WS in 07 and 13, He also ended up being a front line lefty starter. who had 110 wins in Boston ..They traded Nomar for Cabrera and Doug Mientkiewicz whos defense helped them win a WS in 04 and Manny's bat was basically a wash with Arod at the time from 03-07 Manny hit 180 HR with a 308 BA while Arod hit 220 HR with a 302 BA...I don't think all that payroll was worth 40 HR over 5 seasons plus giving up nomar and Lester. Tying up all that money with Arod wouldn't have allowed them to go out and get Curt Shilling the next year to win the WS. It would have been bad all around. Plus Manny helped them win the 04 and 07 WS for them....horrible deal for Boston
I think they wanted it because of his marketability and they thought he would only get better. It lowkey kinda worked out for both sides.
Nice vid
Piazza and Griffey on mets wow
Appreciate the feedback, writing the script for the next video now. Will for sure take it all into consideration 🫡🤝
UPDATE: New Video will be releasing on Thursday (8/1/2024) at 12 PM EST!
Double check the pronunciation on player names, next time. Thanks for a look at this topic!! This is a fun look!
@@ezmoney1213 definitely need to double/triple check myself for future videos as I am going to be doing. I appreciate the kind words, definitely learning as I go lol
“john wettEeland” it’s john wetteland. like “wetland”
ZeLEE? it’s like Seal but with a Z
I didn’t double check my pronunciations on this video because I didn’t expect it to blow up and only made it to learn how to edit better. With that being said going forward I will be double checking everything
@@Schubesss Good to hear. Little things like mispronunciations can undermine your credibility in the minds of your viewers.
What if the Orioles never made that horrible Glen Favis trafe, nor let Mickey Tettleton leave via FA... those early 90s teams in Baltimore would have been pretty good..
Pro nuance E ation
I know it feels like people are shitting on you but when it comes to making nostalgia videos about baseball past, you got to be accurate. You are a presenter of information, people watch videos to learn something they might not know so when it comes to sports mispronouncing a player's name will kill your credibility and make your vids look lazy..."John Wet -E-land" its just Wet-land.... Todd Zel-EE is actually pronounced Todd ZEEL. Miggy couldn't have played with Vladdy Jr as he plays now....He would have been playing with Vladdy SR if he was traded to the Angels... when it comes to sports accuracy is #1 make sure names are right and any stat because people will check you... not being a dick, I was a play-by-play sports guy and Radio DJ I have been there...keep up the good work you will get better
@@adamdavis2760 I understand what you’re saying but calling me a presenter strictly because I make videos is very inaccurate. Things will get better with time as I work on getting better overall. I appreciate your opinion but I’m also not perfect and never claim/ed to be so. Some errors of this were from lack of proofreading and other were lack of available pronunciation of the players name at the time. You got to remember I had about 40 subs when I made this video and never thought it would have anywhere close to 4k views lmao
@@Schubesss no its not inaccurate. You are a presenter...You are presenting information....If I did a video on 80s music people would expect me to be accurate otherwise why would I do it? If you do a vid on anything you have to get the easy stuff right...When I was on the radio doing the news for public consumption how long do you think I would last if I gave out the wrong info ?
Actually, you fed us talk about Barry Barnes almost got traded to the Braves Griffy almost became a brave Tom Seaver should’ve been a brave except MLB next it back in the 60s There’s many trades it almost came down in history. The teams decided not to do it. Bernie Williams almost became a brave in 1991. There was a trade in the works that would’ve sent Jeff Blauser to the New York Mets for Bernie Williams. But then Gm Bobby cox desire to do the trade because at time the Yankees need a short stop and offer Williams and player be name later
@@chrishutchens5167 I’m always down to do another video for sure! Thanks for the idea! I’ll do some research and credit you if I do the video.
Rivera’s ERA in 1996 was 2.09 NOT 2.90. Get your facts right.
I clearly said 2.09 and it was just an error. So my facts were “right” lmao
John Wetty land? 😅😅
It's like you're sleep talking
@@RJS2303 I was/am currently sick when I recorded this but definitely understand what you’re saying. Appreciate the feedback nonetheless and will keep it in mind for future voice recordings.
@@Schubesssyea if I pulled you over your definitely getting a dui
Wettyland 🤣🤣
My pronunciations were not there in this video lmao but that won’t happen in the future lol. My bad on those, this video was my first real attempt at making baseball content.
@@Schubesss lol it’s all good bro. I’m just teasing lol
