    Every pump has a Head limit. Which is how high in the air it can pump a vertical tube of water. By lifting the bucket you essentially shorten the height it is pumping up.

      So, I'm trying to make a Monster with water/blood dripping out of his mouth. the water needs to flow up 7 feet. I purchased a 400gph pump with the water in a bucket on the ground and the tube running up to the mouth about 7 feet up. But the water flow is too strong even if I shut the value/vent to close.Do you know if I should buy a 160 gph or 200 gph pump to get closer to a trickle coming out of the monster's mouth? Any info is greatly appreciated.

    I love this prop. It's too bad that these plastic skeletons are so expensive. I managed to snag one from Walgreens in their after Halloween sale a few years ago for $30, but most places want $50-60 for them! Mine isn't even posable, all the joints just flop around. I also managed to break the spine just moving it around. I shoved a piece of broom handle into the opening and just secured it to the bottom, so I now have a two-piece skeleton. It makes it easier to move. I also broke the thumb off the right hand, which I "fixed" by drilling into it and sticking a piece of wire into it. It's not glued, so it will pull right off if you try.
    I also wanted to comment that everyone else seems to have way better Goodwill stores than any around here. In every Goodwill that I've been to, all of the electronics and small appliances, are just thrown together on a shelf and it's mostly all crap. Curling irons, VHS rewinders, battery operated candles, dirty keyboards, wireless mice without the receivers, etc. It's rare that I actually see something of interest there. They also don't have any dedicated video game/software section and you're lucky if you see 3-4 Xbox 360 games in the case up front (and they'll all be sports games).
    On the other hand, all the stores here do a color of the week, where everything with a certain color tag will be half-off.

    • @kanyaahjanesorden7448
      @kanyaahjanesorden7448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a former Goodwill employee, I will tell you why that may be. They auction off on their website anything that can be of significant value. So, any games other than sports games, or any game systems such as your Nintendo, Xbox, and Playstation systems, will be auctioned off for more than they could get for it in store. Along with laptops, computers, phone's, anything that can hold significant value. Goodwill is for profit. They are not a charity, no matter how much they may claim to be, they are a for profit company.

      Walgreens is a great place for post holiday decoration sales. I've gotten two 3/4th scale skeletons for 12 dollars each (normally about 40 dollars) and a giant spider for 15 dollars (which I think was going for 50). The trick is to get there immediately after the holiday ends, preferably early in the day when everything goes on sale.

    To explain why raising the bucket helps you first have to know a little bit about physics. Whenever you have an object that has mass and you elevate it to a higher elevation than what it was relative to the starting position it then gains what's known as potential energy. For example if you have a ball and it's on the ground it can't fall anymore because it's on the ground yet if you raise the ball then it can fall to the ground. The pump is underpowered and when you raise the bucket the water now has more potential energy that is pushing on the water going upstream and is assisted with the pump. It's like if you were to try and pull a cart uphill and you can't do it but you're close and someone comes behind you and pushes it making it easier to lift up the hill.

  • @michaelrae9599
    @michaelrae9599 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The air pressure of all the air above us is 14 lbs/sq in. So, the pump has to push the water up against the weight of the air. When you move the pump up, you relieve the amount of pressure pushing down, so the motor can push back to it's maximum.

I had asked for creater feedback and was burned at the steak by others for being "critical of her work" when all I wanted was to not waste my time and money on something that would just fall apart on me!
    Also year's before this I knew someone that used hot glue to fix his side mirror on his car and it fell and broke. I live in the Pacific Northwest, not that hot here.

    A cool variation on that would be to place a motor on the shoulder joint. And have him raising the bottle up to his mouth, pouring the "wine" into mouth, then lowering the bottle. You'd need to cut off the flow of "wine" when the arm is lowered obviously.

    The phenomenon that occurs when you lift the bucket is the same reason water towers work and old toilets used to have the tank way up on the wall. iirc the gravitational force of the water going down helps overcome atmospheric pressure in the air side of the tube so it isnt just the motor working all that force.

    I wonder how it would look if kraken tentacles would wrap around the barrel? Skeleton is in the crows nest and the ship is going down, but hell might as well have a last drink. Great video. Thanks.

    Very creative and a really fun build! Curiously in the actual skeleton in the attraction there is no liquid involved. The “liquid” is simply a small piece of 1” wide red plastic that has been twisted into a spiral and then rotated with a small motor at the bottom to create the illusion of liquid going down. It looks good from a distance with good lighting but your’s probably looks more realistic as it is!

    Home run! After a couple of years I had to replace my wire (for the arm) to conduit. It’s a crowd favorite but it always takes for ever to set up to get the bottle pouring in just the right position!

    Awsome. You could add a long sleeve pirate shirt on him, one of those with puffy sleeves and then his waistcoat over the top. Could hide the tube. Unbuttoned so you can still see his chest. Love the project overall great job.

    I so love this project as much as I love watching you guys work together. Poor "Barty" is a paraplegic skeleton with that spinal sever but Great Recovery. I am doing an occupational zombie theme this year and since (unless your Somalian) not many pirate jobs open. How about a Mother-in-law chugging wine on my front lawn??? Maybe my attitude is too caustic and why my wife let's me do Halloween by myself. OUCH!
    Great job guys. Appreciate the inspiration!

    I feel sorry for drinking skeleton. He started drinking so much he doesn't know when to stop. The endless drinking is just a metaphor for his life. Mr. Pirate skeleton, the first step to solving an addiction is to admit you have an addiction. Mr. Pirate skeleton is in my prayers and I hope he gets better
    Seriously, he's such a drunk that his boner is always exposed

    I offer my old torn clothes and some broken things to a friend who does projects and stuff.
    I think Goodwill needs to start a section of their stores to craft, re/up cycling. I'm sure people could repurpose an old flat bike tube or worn out tire for a project.
